I think you've only gone to further prove my point there; that's over a half-marathon a week -- a fair time commitment I'd argue -- to burn off about 10% of your overall calorific intake. Far more efficient to just eat 10% less.

That's 3 lots of 50 minutes per week, which is hardly a big time commitment. It also keeps you fit.

To be fair it's more than that really. Personally if I do a 10k run it might take me about 50 minutes but by the time I've got ready, done the run, cooled down enough to be ready for the shower, actually had a shower and got changed again you can pretty much double that.

How complicated are your shoelaces?

I used to manage to fit a 5 mile run plus shower into my lunch hour. And shall be doing so again when my balls have healed.

Dear staff at Pret a Manger,

I know your colleague is crap. She has been for three months. But don't leave your customers hanging around for the best part of 5 minutes, for two days in a row, whilst she tries to find a colleague who is prepared to identify for her the sandwich that she has been presented with, just to prove a point.

Kind Regards,

ApplePieofNowIncreasedHunger

Who's seen what they've built of The Shard so far and thought "fuck me, that's big"?

Well... http://londonist.com/2011/01/base-jumpe ... -shard.php

Fuck that shit, if I can get from 21 to 13.5 stones without lifting a finger, anyone can.

The trick is to pig out every so often - I used to eat at least one biggest-size Dominos every half stone (sometimes more regularly, though for the first year that was every 2-3 weeks anyway) and did a bit of binge drinking every so often with tee-total in between. Stops the body going into hibernation mode, see.

Now I just have to do it again, but only from just-under-15st, thankfully.

I cut booze out, entirely for the first 8 weeks, then just a couple of pints Friday lunchtime. Eventually I started drinking vodka at weekends, and hunting out the odd low-carb lager. It was always factored into the Points, so half a bottle of vodka meant not much got ate that day.

Mostly I was eating chilli or grilled chicken with baked potatoes, steamed rice or Yorkshire puddings (much, much less unhealthy than you'd think).

With, I don't know, some other stuff as well. That appalling "bacon with all the tasty bits cut off". Lots of steamed green beans, sprouts, broccolli and cauliflower. Tomato sauces for pasta, with the same chicken and/or bacon in. No oil when I did need pan lubricant, just that "<1% spray" stuff. Smaller portions of carbs - I think 50g dried for rice or pasta, 75g for spuds. I've never had much of a sweet tooth, so not having chocolate or puddings was easy.

I actually found it really, really hard to eat my daily Points allowance - I think I averaged 27ish most days, and I was on the maximum 36 for months - I literally ran out of ways to add Points when doing the initial calculation, and it never allowed going below 28 for a man. But my body acclimatised and I felt full; lots of veg and other low-/no- Point foods is the key.

That and the occasional binge to wake the body up, during which it fails to absorb most of the calories you push through anyway, because it's not prepared.

All of that meant I was dropping between 4 and 6 pounds a week, week in and week out, for the first 5 stones or so. It was only when I was within the last stone it got to a more reasonable 0.5 to 2 a week. With no exercise.

Doesn't work any more. I'm in my 30s, am not single, and like drink and food much, much more than I did then.

If you organise it, they will come.

(Seriously though, someone should organise one, I think Curiosity is likely to be a bit too busy in the next few months to set one up).

I totally agree, but doesn't friend Curio get a discount from the only man with a limper handshake than Kovaks?

I reckon I can get both of those cottages again, weekend of March 18th, for £1850 + fuel charge (wife permitting).

That's actually cheaper than last time, I think.

Thoughts?

It's the Grimlet's birthday party :'(

I could come afterward, though.

Also - won't we have raped our cash the weekend before?

Yes we will.

But that's the only available date before I become a father.

Perhaps it might be better to aim later in the year...

After those comments about a MAME cab - this looks very nice - pity its a one off right now

http://kotaku.com/5725106/from-boring-l ... de-cabinet

Quote:
Lenovo - yes, boring old Lenovo - has one of the more interesting gaming-related products on show at this week's CES: a box that transforms a laptop computer into a pint-sized arcade cabinet.

All you do is pop the stick open and there's room to slide in a laptop. Close it back up and you have the world's cutest - albeit least practical - fighting game arcade unit.

Sadly, it's not an actual product, just a gimmick thrown together for the show (it was built by Dean Liou from Envador.com). What's the deal, Lenovo? We wouldn't call you boring old Lenovo if you sold something like this, something that would make my kitchen counter the greatest kitchen counter in the world.

That looks ace mate, I'd love a good MAME cab with Defender buttons and all that.

Talking of old games and the like, looks like WoS blog is offline, at least for me.

Some sort of Watchdog-like programme on telly now with a woman asking, incredulously, "so it IS legal? They're allowed to do that?" about those 'cash for gold' companies. In her defence, she's at least not haranguing and sneering in the god-awful Campbell/Robinson style, but seriously, the question is whether a company is allowed to offer a very low amount in exchange for something if they want to.

Of course it's not illegal, for fuck's sake. You can't legislate a minimum price for every possible transaction in the country. If you don't like the price someone's offering for your stuff, don't accept it. Take your stuff back and go somewhere else. It's called "trade", and it's not a particularly new or difficult concept.

This is the whole of BBC TV in my opinion. I'm annoyed that I am paying my license fee to give advice (that will be ignored) to people who are too stupid to be allowed to breathe.

There's a demand right now for a empathetic moon in this country. Think of the bonuses. No matter how out of shape you get, you'll always be comparatively thin...

I do feel sorry for him, but when he defended the 100k a year he cost the country by saying "I wouldn't be in this situation if the NHS had operated on me when I was 20 stones lighter" I was shouting at the TV for him to fuck off.

Holy shit!

Are trains that size told to drive through situations like that? I know it's impossible to stop one, but looking closely at that video and others, they don't appear to even have their brakes on.

Someone smarter than me could probably explain the physics, but I always assumed that if something that size, with that momentum and that little traction, would actually be momentarily traveling faster if it was "skidding" into a stationary vehicle.

Next doors dog has been left on his own outside all day since about 9am this morning. He's been in my garden and various others with his tail inbetween his legs. He looks really scared... and he's very thin. I can see his ribs!

I've called the RSPCA but will they do anything? The person I spoke to on the phone seemed

What sort of dog is it? Some dogs are always thin, no matter how well you look after them.
And the RSPCA are crap.

I'm no good with dogs so I haven't a clue... sorry.

I don't think he should be that thin though, he doesn't look right and the whole tail between his legs thing is bad.... Right?

Plus he's been barking all... day... long and it's getting tedious now.

What's with the wailling? They got clear a good minute in advance, and it's not like her babies were still in there.

Probably the shock of realising that, had she still been in the car, she would now be very, very dead.
