Anyway, about them car warranties, eh chaps....? :D

Only joking.

I saw Insurrection on Blu Ray last night, thought it was excellent, though must confess I'll need a second viewing.

Predators was pretty rubbish though, gutted. I love that kind of thing normally, even when it's obviously a bit rubbish - I even loved the Mortal Kombat films.

So, 5 year rule not applying, how's about a 1997 Merc E230 estate, then?

Is that a diesel mate? What's the mileage? Pricey if things go wrong and it's a 13 year old motor afterall?

Personally, I'd try something like the last Toyota Corolla mate - good little family hatch. It won't set the senses alight but it won't do likewise to your cash either, if you choose well? Get one with full history off some grandad or other (and no, I don't have one to sell :D )

I had a go on one of these Christmas before last. I was laughably shite at most of the activities, most especially the hula hoop. Plus, it said I was 'obese' for my height - apparently, you can't enter width. :D

Good fun though, especially after a few beers. I must admit, I think the Wii is particularly good for 'family gatherings' type stuff?

(For example, I can't imagine too many takers getting excited about Namco Museum on my PS3... believe you me, I've tried ;) Xevious rocks!)

Corolla is a fair bit smaller. We had a diesel merc for a while with about seventy squillion miles on the clock - there's a reason they're used as taxi's everywhere in Europe.

As Cavey says, that is fairly old though, so it won't be pretty. I'm not convinced it'd be pricey if it brakes - old cars are easier to fix after all, but I personally would be looking at getting something newer with a warranty.

Also, we have a thread just for discussions like this ;)

I think that the mods should split all the car stuff out of 25, and leave us with a paradox that not only did the first poster on page 100 not start 26, but that the person who started 26 has left the boards.

It would mark the start of the end of times.

What model designation is '97? Does it have square headlamps or is it the first of the double round headlights? If it's the latter avoid it like the fucking plague as Mercedes were being run by a fucking idiot at the time, who slashed production costs, bought Chrysler for an absofuckinglute fortune [1]and tried to compulsorily purchase the entire Mercedes dealer network. Slashing build quality and pissing off all your dealers is such a good business practice. Honestly, Merc are only just starting to reclaim their rep for build quality and customer support. Cars from this period are literally, no exaggeration, on a par with buying something older by British Leyland. Your only hope is that any faults have long since be rectified by previous owners and that it doesn't rust like a 70s Alfa.

[1] Paid several billion for it about a decade ago and the whole world went 8) Sold it last year, or the one before for about 5% of what they paid for it.

Yep, we were all widdling ourselves watching whoever was on the thing on New Year's Day after a few bevvies. We were all present for the initial weigh-in and balance tests, which caused much amusement on their own, before we got anywhere near the actual exercises. So far I've only tried the snowboard, the weird balancy thing where you have to get your balls in the little holes, and sitting still watching the candle. My daughter and her bf got very competitive on the slalom and hula hooping during which Mrs W nearly choked with laughter.

Anyone else going on a diet, then? I bloody well am, and if there's one thing that gets me down more than any other, it's frickin' diets. I love my food.

It's no good though, I've got a right 'food baby' belly now, post Xmas excesses. So, porridge for breakfast & tinned white crab meat and various other high protein/low fat foods for lunch and tea - nearly all of the tinned fish variety - and redoubled gym workouts, here I bloody well come. >:|

(I wouldn't mind so much, but aforesaid fish diet has an unfortunate 'fart like a bison' side effect, too. Deep joy. Arses!)

The house is still full of snack food (chocs, crisps etc) and loads of booze and fizzy pop.

I'll start my diet after that lot has gone.

Maybe.

Diet, no chance. I will be cutting down on the alcohol intake, which should be easy as it's pretty difficult to maintain the quiet but consistent imbibing that usually goes on over Christmas /sips V&T

And I've been meaning to get more active and have a GP first round appointment to investigate trying to find a more permanent solution to my near constant back problems, which hopefully will help with motivation to get back into shape.

Low impact exercises like swimming and cycling are potentially good mate, though it does depend on the nature of your back injury. (Sorry to hear that btw. Back injuries are an absolute nightmare, my sympathies. :( )

Me too, a bit. I'm not fat or anything, at 5'8 weigh 12 stone tops, but I do feel like I could shed a stone and look better. Aim to exercise more too for general happiness feel, as I don't have too much stamina and feel sleepy half the time.

Love me sausages though! And me wine and cheese. What can I do? I'll have to stop having those snack bars at break and go for an apple instead. But an apple and coffee? Yech. Hmm. Tricky. Also must eat smaller portions, as I accidentily cook far too much all the time.

I'm not sure what we did but Mrs Meaty lost a stone and a half and I've lost half of one... she was really gung ho for the whole Weightwatchers system at first but since then we've just gone for homecooked fresh food all the time and are doing okay with that. There's only so far it'll take you, I guess, before exercise becomes mandatory, and I think we've hit that stage now. Alas, drive to work and and then sit at a desk for 8 hours = not conducive.

:this: Except taller and a bag of sugar over 12st. I need to exercise but suffer from the most terrible condition, known as Chronic Laziness. I actually can't be arsed to start. It is much easier to starve. That's how lazy I am, too lazy to go to the fridge. Once I've got the old exercise routine ball rolling though, I feel much better and find it quite easy to carry on. I'll have to take up yoga again I think.

I am sort of going on a diet. Slightly less booze than New Year week won't be hard to hit, for a start, though still drinking, and still going for chocolate and coke of an afternoon. I'm back on the running which will, I hope, allied to the cycling to work stop me from varying between 12 stone and 11 and a half, and get me around and below the latter. But I had a good read of "Born to Run", which is an interesting book (about ultra running, and a tribe especially good with it) and while I think much of it's flawed, the author switched to salad, pulses and the like for breakfast. Good way to get in the greeneries, pulses and the like, plus I'm hoping to go for fairly big portions, which might cut down on my grazing.

And ideally, it'll make me a lean, mean, healthy machine.

Two episodes into The Pacific and it is very good.

Famous and Fearless, less so.

Reminds me, I saw a tin box set of Band of Brothers DVDs for £15 in tesco earlier. If it gets any cheaper, they'll be paying people to take it away.

That is very good, too.

I almost bought it years ago, priced around £80, then nearly jumped when I saw it for £50, then again when it was £25 in the post christmas sales last year.

I have never owned it, nor watched the series from start to finish.

When it was on TV I wasn't able to watch it due to (Political upheaval in Honduras- MrsA and when I was able to a couple of years back I was awestruck.

MrsA is in Paris The Shithole at the weekend so I might do The Pacific, BSG and The Wire all weekend.

I've still not played CodBlops.

According to my wife, it is not considered normal to absent mindedly reach for a cotton bud and start clearing out your ears whilst standing, having a piss. The weirdo.

Watch Band of Brothers, please. One of the greatest TV series ever made. Plus, Gay for Capt. Winters. :)

It's currently a whopping £9 on play.com in their January sale. I've never seen but it's on it's way :)
