I've stuck my choice at between 200 and 300 as I think thats about what I spent last year.

Although I have nothing this year thats a day one purchase right now that might change as some things get closer to release (last year I had already pre-ordered Dead Rising 2 and I bought Super Street Fighter IV / Red Dead / CODBLOPS on release day).

I'll probably come back here and just update this post with where I am at the time - although to set up things right now -

I have around 5000 microsoft space bucks in my account and I wont track them individually but i'll track when i purchase any more
I have around £20 of credit on Itunes (hard to track but I'll try to remember).
From Xmas I have £50 of Amazon vouchers and I also got a 12 month card to renew my XBL so its now covered until the start of 2012

I have a pile of unplayed games from last year (or ones hardly started) although I can often get distracted either with shiney shiney new stuff or things that are so cheap that it makes me think I MUST BUY , as such my first item was something that I was vaguely interested in when it came out but ignored until it came down to a silly price yesterday - and i'm tempted but managing to hold off on Sonic racing at the moment :-)

Expenditure so far :
£4.97 - Alpha Protocol for the 360 (Purchased 6th Jan) - Cancelled by PCworld - either out of stock or a missprice
£23.99 - Dead Space 2 - from Argos (16th Feb)
£6.97 - Lego Harry Potter - From PCworld (23rd Feb)
£11.99 - 2100 Microsoft points from Game (via link on Savygamer) 1st March
£10.10 - Need for Speed shift 2 (misprice from Tesco) 9th June - really not my type of game - sold on ebay for £16 but with fees and whatever else i'll just deduct the original price
£26.70 - 4200 Microsoft points from IWOOT 13th June
£14.99 - Homefront from Play.com 13th June - sold in October on ebay for £8
£10.00 - Medal of Honor from Ebay 22nd June
£16.25 - Portal 2 (link from Savygamer) (end of june)
£25.83 - Child of Eden and Deathsmiles (delux) from Zavvi with a 10% off code (4th Aug)
£9.98 - Lips I love the 80's (plus mikes) from Play (end of June)
£2.99 - Band hero (start of September)
£29.99 - Deus Ex + 800 MS points (start of September)
£24.99 - Dead Island from Zavvi (early October)
£27.18 - Battlefield 3 online from Asda (1st Nov)
£42.99 - MW3 + 2100 points from Tesco (8th Nov)
£4.49 - Red Faction Armageddon from Game (23rd Nov)
£9.99 - Williams Pinball Classics from Game (26th Nov)
£13.21 - Rage from Tesco (29th Nov)
£17.79 - Gears 3 from Game (30th Nov)
£22.49 - Skyrim from Gamestation (6th Dec)
£27.19 - 4200 MS points from Best Buy (7th Dec)
£22.99 - Dark Souls from Game (8th Dec)
£2.94 - Red Faction and Brink from Gamestop
£17.99 - Saints Row the third from Play
£9.99 - Dodonpachi Revolution from Game
£7.99 - EDF Insect Armageddon from Play

I-stuff (i had around £20 of credit on this so its not stuff I'm shelling out for but :
£2.99 - Dead Space HD (14th Feb)
£0.59 - Dungeon Raid (12th Feb)
£0.59 - World of Goo (9th Feb)
£0.59 - Street Fighter IV (9th Feb)
£0.59 - Dead Rising mobile (9th Feb)
£0.59 - Resident Evil 4 HD (9th Feb)
£0.59 - Speedball 2 (20th March)
£1.19 - Plants Vs Zombies HD (20th March)
£0.59 - Street Fighter IV Jolt (not sure but day of release to get it at that price)

-------
£424.90 - Running Total

I've been scouring my online accounts over the past couple of days and have been putting my expenditure into a spreadsheet which I intend to keep updated throughout the year. So far, it looks like this...

2009 = £408.34

This includes a whopping £59.99 on Arkham Asylum special edition, £69.99 on Wii Fit and £64.95 on Guitar Hero 3 (A waste of money)

2010 = £538.90

This includes £195 on a new Xbox, £29.99 on Goldeneye special edition, £29.95 on Bioshock 2 special edition and £27.99 on Vanquish.

Over the past 2 years it looks like I've only bought 3 games on day of release. These being Batman, Bayonetta and Vanquish (although Vanquish was *only* £27.99)

I've bought at least 40 game related items over the past 2 years. I don't think I've accounted for everything though as I'm sure I've bought stuff off people on here, and I can't remember when I bought my PS3 but that only cost £150.

Of these 40 items only 7 were over £30. This includes the Xbox and 4200 Microsoft points. I'm quite happy that I seem to buy many a bargain! 17 of my purchases were under £10.

*Edit* Oh, and I haven't bought anything game related this year.. yet.

I very rarely buy games on release day any more, although I used to do it all the time.
The worst example is Mass Effect, which I preordered for (I think) £40, back in November 2007. I started playing it last week.

It's good, isn't it?

No, it isn't.

Last year, Red Dead knocked my socks off. Nothing else did. And I think I bought more 360 games than ever before. Either games are getting worse or I am becoming more choosy.

Apart from Gears 3 and Test Drive Unlimited 2, nothing grabs me so far yet.

So far I stand on £6.49, for Real Racing 2 (iPhone) and Cerrig Peryg (iPhone). Gonna make a proper spreadsheet, I think.

I've said £200-£300 as a total guess. I currently have New assassins creed, Fallout and Fable to be playing plus 3 Kinect games so I can hopefully hold up spending for a while. I still fancy Tropico and Saboutour(?) though and will find it incredibly hard not to buy Sims 3 for 360. Has anyone got that by the way? Then we have the usual Christmas rush of Call of Duty, we're getting new Gears, I'm sure there will be more. When is new Mass Effect, are they going to get it all out this gen?

I still haven't got round to trying Sims 3. I had a good laugh with the second one, so I might pick it up eventually.

I did buy Tropico 3 in the end - I have it on the external ready to install now, but am still juggling with space issues and waiting for news on my contract at work before I decide whether I'm going to buy a new PC or just get a bigger hard drive.

I watched the intro sequence, though, and it had a very similar style and atmosphere to the first one, which is promising.

Right then, so far this year I has purchased:

- Mafia II (PC) - £4.99 (bought in the dregs of the Steam sale)
- Minotaur Rescue (iOS) - 59p

Bringing me to a 2011 total so far of: £5.58.

This is the year I'm planning to properly, properly sort out my debt and thus my spending, so I'm expecting a very lean year in games. Real Racing 2 for iPhone keeps looking at me all seductively though, urging me to buy it.

I. Must. Resist.

I am now up to £45 on this year because of Modern Warfare 2... I wanted to go through January without spending but still... I'll just pretend it's Christmas money I spent.

Droped £3 on weird worlds for iPad. (As I love the OSX version and it's an awesome 20min game). Could have been a better port. Fiddly.

So far I'm:

Mass Effect 2 (360): £4.99

I expect I'll spend a hell of a lot less on games this year than I did last. I worked quite a bit of overtime in Q4 2010, so stockpiled myself for the lean months ahead as I have a kitchen to pay for. I currently have in the completely unopened pile:

Xbox 360 Retail:
Bioshock 2
Blur
Condemned
Condemned 2
FIA World Rally Championship
Fuel
Hitman Blood Money
Kane & Lynch 2
Mass Effect 2
Mercenaries 2
Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising
Red Dead Redemption
RDR: Undead Nightmare
Split/Second
Tomb Raider: Anniversary
Wet

XBLA
Assault Heroes
Duke Nukem 3D
Earthworm Jim HD
Madden NFL Arcade

That's disgraceful, considering the number of half-started stuff I have, too. The only new games announced for this year so far that I'm interested in are:

Test Drive Unlimited 2 (but I won't get until I've finished the first)
Tour de France
Portal 2
Gears of War 3
Forza 4 (but won't get until I've finished 3)

I expect I'll pick up a lot of old stuff for cheap, however.

Oh hey, I should do this too.

£4.97 on Sin and Punishment 2 so far.

What should I do about when I sell/trade in games that I have bought this year? Subtract from my running total?

Also, I have £380 Gamestation credit, I think that might go on a 3DS.

I aim to get more free games in 2011 than I did in 2010 too.

Edit: Oh, and I bought Cthulu Saves the World for 240 MS Points. ~£1.71

£6.68

As well as Just Cause 2 for £4.99, I've now shelled out for the official Wireless N adapter as I want to shift all my gaming to the warmer end of the house. Fortunately, Gamestation had a second hand one for £34.99, which still seems expensive for what it is, but at least it's still a fair saving on the RRP I guess.

I'm thinking my £200-£300 estimate might be a bit out already though.

I was going to buy some board games for my iPhone as I was bored, but this thread made me think, "NO!" so I am still at 0.

Get an iTunes voucher. That way the money's already spent so you might as well take a punt.

Hmm... I too, spent cash monies of World of Goo for iPad, to the tune of £2.99. Still haven't played it as all my iPhone/iPad time goes on Infinity Blade and Minotaur Rescue, but everyone keeps going on about how chuffing wonderful World of Goo is that I thought I should probably take a punt.

So that brings my total 2011 games expenditure up to £8.57 so far.

Just ordered Blazblue Continuum shift using a 15% Zavvi code.

That was £12.62 bringing this years total to £57.62.

I've got Marvel Vs Capcom 3 next month too... Not sure I'll be able to wait till that comes down in price.

if you got a serial, you can just stick it into EA Downloader.

Not everyone got a serial, Gamestation's new web site is shit.

Some people got retroactively charged £24.99, so check for that...

Fuuuuuuuck.

(Sin & Punishment, a £15 iTunes voucher and £5 on Fallout: New Vegas (used a gift voucher for the rest).

Right, hopefully that will be it for a while.

Some people got retroactively charged £24.99, so check for that...

It went through paypal, so hopefully cost GS more than 9p! Yuo are right thugh, their website is fucking awful.

So far I've spent about £15, which isn't bad considering the number of games I got for it, and my funsquare shelf is overflowing so I can't see myself buying more for that anytime soon (cheers to Lewie for pointing me at the Club for £3, incidentally - I spent yesterday playing split screen multiplayer with some friends, and it's the most fun I'd had for months).

I have, however, spent stupid amounts on DVDs. Oops. Still, Arrested Development is well worth it.

I mentioned this to you yesterday, but what is even more shit is that when the 9p codes ran out, they reverted to £5 CD cost, £25 download cost.

Because I fancied a play, I got it from Steam for £10 and interestingly, the steam version appears to have resolved all the performance issues that it came with (I ran it on this same laptop a couple of years ago and had to strip all the performance levels to basic just to make it run).

:this: It's funny how the 'Sort by Price - High to Low' works, but Low to High gives you a mixture of results.

That seems scarily reasonable.

Just bought 2,100 MS points for £13.47.

Dunno whether to add that to my (£6.68) running total, or to count when I spend those points...

Well, you've already spent the money, so I'd count it.

Yeah, you bought gamepoints. They aren't money. Count 'em.

Yeah, that makes more sense, although I had included an XBLIG in my running total, so excluding that, I'm at £18.44 for 2011 so far.

I sold a load of CDs, DVDs and games to Music Magpie and now have 140 quid.

I have purchased no games as yet, but my clean sheet will be scuppered with the release of CODBLOPS map packs...

Still haven't spent a bean, and thanks to Star Craft 2 of late, I can't see me spending anything until GoW3 is out.

This is my plan.

I bought 2,000 MS points for £17 from the dashboard last night, as I wanted to get Deathspank (600) and Risk Factions (400) before the sale ended.

That takes me up to £21.99 for the year so far.
