Would this work?
oldWinnerRating = X
oldLoserRating = Y
multiplier = 1/(oldWinnerRating/oldLoserRating)
newWinnerRating = oldWinnerRating + mulitplier
newLoserRating = oldLoserRating - multipler

EG: Equal player
Code:
oldLoserRating   50
oldWinnerRating   50
Multiplier   1
newLoserRating   49
newWinnerRating   51

Good player beats bad player

Code:
oldLoserRating   10
oldWinnerRating   90
Multiplier   0.111111111
newLoserRating   9.888888889
newWinnerRating   90.11111111

good player loser to bad player

Code:
oldLoserRating   90
oldWinnerRating   10
Multiplier   9
newLoserRating   81
newWinnerRating   19

I think that is nice and elegant.

if someone has the potential to lose 19% in one bad game though, it should be either calculated over more games, or give an option to play a non rated game..

Fairly soon.

You can just play it on an Android phone, though, what with it having a good browser and all ;)

One of the things I used to do when running fun quake leagues (as apposed to the more serious ones) was that everyone started off with a pot of points (1000 say), and each game each team would put in X% of their points into the pot (I normally went with 5%) Then I split the pot 3 or 4 ways (not always equal).

Pot A would be the win, lose or draw pot and would be 2/3rds of the total pot. The winner would take 100% of this pot or it's split 50/50 for a tie

Pot B would be the points difference pot and would be 1/6th of the total pot. Each team would take a percentage of this pot depending on their points scored (points scored/ total points scored by both teams)

Pot C would be for beating the expected result and would be 1/12th of the total pot. I can't remember the full details here, but I think this pot was based on beating the score that would get you a net positive score from pots A and B. If you beat this score you won 100% of the pot, if it was a tie it was split 50/50

Pot D would be a playing bonus and would be 1/2th of the total pot and would be split inversely in relation to how many games you had played compared to the other team (other team number of games played/total number of games played by both teams)

If I was doing pot D I would often add 20 points into the pot for each game, just to compensate for the potential of a team winning 100-0.

So, some examples let's say you have 2 teams: Alpha and Beta

In the first couple of examples lets assume they are both new teams with 1000 points each. So for their first game, they bung in 50 points each, plus the turning up bonus of 20 points. Takes the total to 120 points in the pot.

Pot A gets 80 points
Pot B gets 20 points
Pot C gets 10 points
Pot D gets 10 points

So if Alpha beats Beta 4-1

Alpha gets 100% of pot A, 80% of Pot B, 100% of Pot C, and 50% of Pot D = 80+16+10+5 = 111 So their new total is (1000-50+111=) 1061
Beta just gets 20% of pot B and 50% of Pot D = 4+5 = 9 So their new total = (1000-50+9=) 959

If it's a draw then everything gets split All 4 pots get split 50/50 so they both take home (40+10+5+5=)60 points giving them both a new total of (1000-50+60=) 1010

Two established teams Delta and Gamma play each other now. Delta is a brilliant team and has 1500 points after playing 90 games. Gama is not so good, but has only played 10 games, it's lost most of them so is down at 800 points.

Delta brings 75 points to the pot, Gamma 40, and we add in 20 as a turn up bonus for a total of 135

Pot A gets 90 points
Pot B gets 23 points
Pot C gets 11 points
Pot D gets 11 points

Let's say the game goes to the form book and Delta beats Gamma 5-0

Delta gets 100% of Pot A, 100% of Pot B, 100% of Pot C and 10% of Pot D 90+23+11+1 = 125. (they are net +50)
Gamma just gets 90% of pot D = 10 (they are net -30)

But what happens if it's a tie 5-5?

Delta gets 50% of Pot A, 50% of Pot B, nothing from pot C (as they are have won less than 75 points back) and 10% of Pot D 45+11.5+1 = 57.5 (they are net -17.5)
Gamma gets 50% of Pot A, 50% of Pot B, 100% of Pot C, and 90% of pot D 45+11.5+11+10 = 77.5 (net 37.5)

Obviously those percentages can be tweaked, and that was all from memory, so most of them are wrong and not what I used, but you get the idea.

Malc

That only seems to happen on Safari, and I'm buggered if I can work out why (although I must confess I haven't looked that hard).

Thanks for the points suggestions, everybody :)

There should be an option to 'chase' them , as they are guests and dont have email addresses you win , you can use this to get rid of the large number of 'guest' games which are sitting there and cloging up the new games page ?

Alternativly i've just found some you had created that no-one had picked up so give them a go - "unfair advantage" looks as if you might have an unfair advantage :-)
