Its a fucker when you come up with what you think is a really good gag, and then find out that half of the internet has done the same thing.

I meant, I came up with that yesterday. Posted it on my FB and then got a bunch of "heard it" messages, so I clearly wasn't the first.

Bah.

Just been watching Ladyhawke and wondered whatever happened to John Wood.

He died last week. :(

This is him as Stephen Falken in WarGames (a role originally written for John Lennon) and containing one of my favourite ever lines.

Quote:
Now, children, come on over here. I'm going to tell you a bedtime story. Are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin. Once upon a time, there lived a magnificent race of animals that dominated the world through age after age. They ran, they swam, and they fought and they flew, until suddenly, quite recently, they disappeared. Nature just gave up and started again. We weren't even apes then. We were just these smart little rodents hiding in the rocks. And when we go, nature will start over. With the bees, probably. Nature knows when to give up, David.

I'm actually finding this rather sickening, newspapers have started toning down the reporting but the initial pictures showed him literally being torn apart by a mob.
I really don't believe that how bad or evil anyone is that they deserve to suffer in death, it's not justice or fair, you can't even call it animal behaviour because animals kill for food or because it's in their nature. Humans should be better than that, we know the difference between right and wrong, we should be better than this.
Violence like this achieves nothing, showing some dignity and treating him as they would want to have been treated would show the world that they could not be broken or beaten, it would have been a far sweeter victory for the victims if he had been brought to the international court and been held accountable, you never know what he may have given up under interrogation - the location of mass graves for example.

Agreed.

I really didn't want to see the photos on the news sites either - just the headline is enough, frankly. Moreover, the important debates and reports we should have, about what now for Libya, get swept away (this is probably a debate for another thread).

A picture of his dead body was shown without warning on the BBC 6 o clock news. It was a bit of a shock as I didn't have time or warning to avert my eyes, and it put me out of sorts.

I see nothing wrong with being an idealist, I used not to be and I know this condition is only going to get worse the older the boy gets (he does not understand the concept of pain or suffering and living with this tends to change you somewhat). Makes me sound like a dirty hippy but it's not about my generation, it's about The Girl's, if I make her heroes scientists and other great people who have changed the world rather than pop stars and reality TV show muppets then maybe she will achieve something great later in life.

The Mail isn't exactly holding back. As far as I can tell, he was pulled from a drain, thrown over the bonnet of a jeep and offed. Pictures are really quite graphic there, but you can "Watch the video of Gaddaffi's last minutes' if you so choose. The pictures are stills from that video I think.

The Muppets are ace! Kermit is my hero, and Dr Bunsen is a scientist AND a Muppet, so surely the best of both worlds.

Decca wins the "more extreme than the Daily Mail" award;

Quote:
The man who intervened in the street brawl involving Shia LaBeouf over the weekend alleges that the actor threatened to pull a knife on him.
...
But he said although LaBeouf made the threats he never actually saw a blade on him.
So some other guy has claimed LaBeouf claimed he was going to draw a knife. Hanging is too good for this 'un, clearly!

Edit -- reading on, LaBeouf also allegedly made the alleged threat after the fight, not before it. But no, that still totes justifies what happened! Somehow.

This was in America though, not slough. Also he is about to ruin the wall street remake along with transformers and indi 4. It's like Paris Hilton, you get a free pass to mock her when she gets caught on camera doing stupid stuff.
Please note, the Lindsay Lohan pass has been cancelled due to overuse by scumpress, please hand yours in at the door and pick up the "I hope they leave her alone and the next picture we see is of her looking healthy and well" empathy certificate.

Is that how we measure how good films are now? Whether you know about them or not?

As it happens, it wasn't very good, but I'm not clear how we can deduce that from your ignorance of the film's release date.

Taking the actors out of the picture. If the general public is unaware that major movie like this has been released then that's a major failing in the PR regardless of how good it is or not. I also can't understand where the money went, $70 million and shot in 58 days? That's a huge amount of money for a drama shot in that time frame, that's we are going balls out for the Oscars money and it didn't break even? 8)
