I love Wikipedia:

But, surely, the cost of peers has dropped since Blair left?

I've got an interview at a job agency next Monday for a role that I know nothing about and don't really want.

Is it worth shaving my beard off for?

Yes people... these are the kind of life changing decisions I have to make now. :'(

3 have been destroyed by fire in the past 10 years or so, so maybe the value of the remainder has gone up?

It better no snoes anywhere in the UK until after 10pm. I need my Ramsea home!! I have shopping to do tomorrow and I need him to take the children to a party.

His sister and I watched a bit of that programme about the triple amputee and his young girlfriend, SiL said that her staying with him was like me staying with Ramsea now he's fat!! :DD Hehehehe!!! He's only put on a stone, he'd still get it.

TheVision, if your beard is in fact jut long stubble, I'd say shave it off. It'd be rubbish to lose the chance at a job/second interview because you have a beard. If it's a proper beard, like what Santa has, or a goatee then leave it on.

I drank too much last night, so ended up watching naked Gun at 2:30. I got up at 8am and felt OK, quite cheery. Only now, at 11:30 does it occur that i was probably still drunk, and now I want to curl into a ball and die.

*gets ready to flee*

Having just seen the Qatar 2022 photos http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/footba ... eyond.html I am now of the opinion that this is going to be awesome I love that they have gone down the route of "lets try and out bat shit crazy Saudi Arabia" and now have the mental image of King Abdullah seeing the pictures and going "noooooooooooooooooo!"

Do they deserve it for being willing to throw billions into their stadium architecture? Darn skippy they do.

Today I just cannot be bloody bothered. It took ten months, but the office idiot has finally demoralised me. All year, I have been building up very good working relationships with half a dozen other departments, after they've suffered years of neglect. I've set up forums for them to air their views. I've arranged meetings outside my working hours. I've had lunch with them. I've gone out of my way to help them. They've appreciated this, and things had been going a lot better.

Of course, at every step of the way, said boss was insisting that I stop (eg: "I should meet with these people I will be working with, to talk to them and ask how we can help them, if there's anything they want us to know, etc." "No, don't do that - they might ask us difficult questions." They did. So I answered them. Everyone was happy. Said person continued to complain and act as though I had done something wrong. GRagh). Now they've insisted that they come along to this forum, and in a single day has turned it from a vital way for me to keep up with what's going on elsewhere so I can make sure we're doing a decent job (Well, I say "we". I'm actually the only person who knows how to do what I do, so it all comes down to me in the long run) into a place where people can meet up, explain the problems they've been having, and then be bullshitted and accused of being "unreasonable". And now I'm being asked to approve their writing up of the meeting, where - obviously - they've left out all mention of anything that they didn't like. So my contacts will see this, realise that they're being bullshitted, and stop (a) telling us anything because what's the point, and (b) giving a shit.

I really cannot be fucking bothered. And of course, the one place where I might get to air all of this without a clusterfuck resulting is a "1 2 1" meeting. With the person who's the sole cause of all these problems. Gah.

I JUST WANT TO DO MY JOB. FUCK OFF AND LET ME DO IT, YOU INCOMPETENT FOOL.

:'( >:(

Oh, and pro tip: If I send 15 people an email, and you're the only one who doesn't understand it, the problem is not my writing skills, you illiterate buffoon. A claim that I don't know how to write is a bit difficult to take from someone who needs the sentence "Pending receipt of form" explained to them twice. Grgrgnnnnrgh.

Because the prospective employer doesn't have a suitable room available to interview you. Or he/she likes their coffee. Mrs. W once had an interview in the cafe at a city centre gym across the road from the location of the actual job. I think interviewing off the premises is becoming quite common.

I imagine it's a hell of a lot more relaxing for both interviewer and interviewee, too.

My last interview was onboard a container being shipped to China.

They didn't break me.

I dunno, I'd personally find it disconcerting (even ignoring the fact that Starbucks can fuck right off). Depends on the nature of the job, to some extent, but generally I'd be quite uncomfortable. I had a 'friendly friendly' interview once, and I was completely flummoxed, it was the worst I'd ever done in an interview. I don't think they even called.

Welcome, Friend Reader to Part 743 of DavPaz's Work Rants! (spoilered for your ignoring convenience)
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
I've had a job logged for two weeks (this is important) for 4 screens to be set up in a room for use in a PC based presentation. This of course means 4 monitors, 4 pcs, 4 mice, 4 keyboards, 8 power leads and enough extensions so everything can be plugged in. The only spare PCs are old HP D530s which are stupidly over engineered and weigh a frickin' tonne. So, at 2pm I load up a big old trolley with all the necessary bits and work my way through many doors and lifts to get to the other side off the building, expending a not inconsiderable amount of effort. I get to the room and fight my way through the assembled students (due to the room being booked solid, I have to do this as the lecture is in progress) and begin to unload the trolley.

At this point, one of the students comes up to me and says 'Oh, we probably don't need them now'.

I smile and reply 'You're joking, right'

Student says 'No, it's going to be too much of a faff on'

I smile again (maybe more of a grimace) and begin to reload the trolley to prepare for my return journey.

TWO WEEKS I've had the job booked. I spoke to the lecturer at 1:30 to make sure it was still needed and she told me it was. Why didn't the student tell me and save me the effort? GARG.

But, hey, on my way out of the room, one of the young girls did a big yawny stretch and her jeans pretty much rolled all the way down her butt cheeks. So all in all, an excellent afternoon. MR PERVY FACE ;)

Tune in next week for 'The Paper Tray Blues' and a remix of the old classic 'Just press the FUCKING 'ON' BUTTON YOU CRETIN!'

I'm sure that was far more exciting than the video makes it looks.

Actually, no. It was a pretty mundane experience. There's no real feeling of movement, no lurching or vibration. I guess the one thing that New York does very well is lifts. :)
