Quite definitely the shit.

Robert Downey Jr. is superb, the suit is spot on, it's witty, the SFX are fantastic, the fighting is brilliant. Also Gwyneth Paltrow looking very hot, and I don't normally like her much.

I'm taking the kids to see it tonight. Ironing Man was one of my favourite superheroes as a kid, largely because the old Marvel UK Transformers comic had an Irony Man story as a backup feature for a while.

There was one panel in particular, showing Doc Ock yanking Any Old Iron Man's chestplate off with his tentacles (I SAID TENTACLES) that throughly traumatised me.

I shall also be watching this tonight. Very much looking forward to it.

'Argh,' he added.

Shit! A whole other Iron Man thread I didn't see as it is badly named! Fuck it, some mod please go delete the one I maded. Edit- don't bother, turns out I can do it.

Also, to all people going to see it, other posters are correct, it's fucking great. Also also, stay to the end of the credits for a SOOPER SEEKRIT FANSERVICE CAMEO.

Maybe my drunken singing of the Black Sabbath guitar riff inspired them to make this film.

I like to think so.

Any idea if this is available anywhere? I left once it started telling me who the left-handed assistant vice grips were, as I didn't think it was the sort of film that would have post-credits action.

Is it Stan Lee, given that Stan Lee turns up in every film that Stan Lee is connected to?

Stan Lee is in it. It couldn't be more obvious unless he stood in front of a giant American flag and annouced "Sometimes, one man really can make a difference."

Hmm, I have a violent hatred of 'after the credits' things after being told by everyone and their mum that I simply had to stick around to the end of the credits of Pirates of the Carribbean 2. My reward? A dog in a hat.

A DOG IN A HAT ON A CHAIR.

It is a new cinematic tradition that I hate. And I punished PotC3 by not bothering to see it at all.

It is, and I did get it (in fact my thread, whilst titled Iron Man, was subtitled Duh-Duh Duh-Duh-Duh which is all that fits in the subtitle box). But I missed the significance when I skimmed the new threads earlier. I only read about 20% of all the threads here.

The end-of-credits cameo is

Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury, who is at Stark's house as he arrives home. He is contemptous of Stark's attitude, telling him "Do you think you are the only super hero in the world? You've moved into a larger universe now Mr Stark. I am here to talk to you about the Avenger Initiative."

May I also do my bit to put off any lingering doubts anyone here may have about the film by declaring it as super-fucking-awesome? So much so I went to see it twice, and I haven't done that at a cinema in a long, long time.

I enjoyed it lots. Was incredibly surprised at how it ended though. I was expecting lots more to happen. Still, lots of fun, and Mr Downey Jnr was once again impossibly charming.

Ooh - also:

Indy looks aceness wrapped in ace, with an ace bow
Hancock looks like it might actually be pretty funny
Speed Racer looks like the worst film ever made, ever
Wanted looks pretty meh, but might be mildly diverting.

No, the Indy trailer makes it look really rubbish. Slow paced, no plot, and relying too much on references to old films.

It's a shame because the full film will surely be nothing less than excellent, and this trailer would have put me off if I wasn't such a massive fan.

Cate Blanchett as sexy evil Nazi-Commie, though.

Iron Man: a bit up and down, but basically pretty excellent. It's not a Batman Begins, but then very little is.

Actually, I preferred Iron Man to Batman Begins. BB always seemed to fall apart a bit a fair bit in the last third on repeat viewings. Still a good flick mind. Iron Man has a fun swagger to it that I find really excellent. Also, Gwyneth Paltrow is surprisingly hot in it, as I've never really fancied her rather inhuman characters before this one.

Paul Bettany was funny in it too.

Funnily enough, I thought Iron Man pretty much fell apart in the final third. Plus, several times the dialogue seemed to be happily bobbing along being perfectly wry and funny and excellent, when suddenly... clunk, an exchange happens which just didn't work at all.

I really enjoyed it, don't get me wrong, but there was a nagging feeling all the way through that it could really have done with one more script revision. And the big final action sequence really didn't grip me. But hey, "As Good As X-Men" is a pretty good bar for a comic adaptation to reach.

Mm, the final action fight didn't do much for me either. In fact, I was sure -

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
- that he was going to mutate inside of that reactor thing and come back for one final movie fight or something silly yet ace. I don't know, some extra final fight. The climactic one felt too much like the sort of mid-section fight you get in a film.

However, that being said, the entirety of the film whizzed by with a constant peak of fun for me, so though I was surprised that the final third was pretty low key as things go, I didn't feel cheated or anything.

The end credits clip - broke my rule and stuck around to watch it.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Samuel L Jackson. Remember when he was cool? Sorry, but I can't get excited about someone who advertises bank cards. I miss those Pulp Fiction days. Also, I prefer the other bloke being in charge of SHIELD. Have accountant-looking bloke as Nick Fury! He funny!

I happened to catch Sky's suckumentory about Iron Man yesterday, which was predictably terrible but did feature Terrence Howard claiming that the reason he wanted to do the film was that "it showed what we all have to do in order to get ourselves out of the mess that we're in as a global society".

So 1) it wasn't the money then, Terry? And 2) thank God that someone else has spoken out in support of my theory that more supersonic airbourne robot battlesuits = world peace.
