That must be hard to implement? My nephew is almost 15, my brother and his wife think they have all their kids internet access nailed down with some app.

The other weekend we were all away for my parents 70th birthday, my nephew was telling me how he can watch most of the stuff he has blocked on Youtube, mostly 18+ game trailers, Its the same at work, if I try to look at a new game review its blocked but not on Youtube.

My brother was also convinced that they when the kids went back to their rooms they only played games on their tablets, there was free wi-fi with no password in the hotel, something my nephew caught onto after 5 minutes!

I didn't say anything as his is a well balanced sensible kid, also I have used to help my sister in law with stuff like then find out she just went and did her own thing so I stay out of it now.

Not look forward to having to manage this for my kids, my son is 3 and all over Youtube, the way I manage this is to ensure that all that's ever looked at it is Thomas stuff so that all he ever gets for suggested videos, I still go back every 10 minutes to check he isn't off the reservation!

A few months ago the Grimlet (who is 8) proudly showed me that he could watch any YouTube video regardless of the kiddie-safe software if he imported it into Word.

I genuinely had a hard time remembering what Morgan and Carol had even been up to last but it did come back to me. I don't get what Carol's problem is with 'The Kingdom' either, considering it appears to be a fully functional and at least partially self-sufficient community living a pretty decent life. It's like when they got to Alexandria and were turning their noses up at it, conveniently forgetting that they were STARVING TO FUCKING DEATH AND DRINKING DIRTY PUDDLES up until the point when they found it, so not exactly doing amazingly well by themselves.

The Ezekiel guy did turn out to be a pretty interesting character though, once you got past the tiger (despite his explanation for it), and the episode overall was alright.

And no one wants to find out what happened to Rick and company anyway, yeah?

Since the Down on the Farm series, it's made a decent stab at exploring how people might get by (at best, all are just doing that), and the different stratagies to do this. A decent move away from the old testament tales it tried to earlier tell.

The Big E is superb. And has a tiger. Which, presumably, eats apples.

Yep. She's teetering on the edge of giving up. Carol and Morgan are two of my absolute favourite characters, so I really enjoyed the episode. A nice change of pace, but keeping the menace right there. Sure, they're doing well, but they're under Negan's control just like everyone else.

I continue to be amazed at the abundance of resources Negan has at his dispoasl, like when he trapped Rick and co at the end of Season Six, the man pretty much seems to be in control of a substantial standing army. And now he appears to be able to assign ten burly chaps to waiting for Daryl to leave his cell, and then corner him at exactly the right time, in the perfect place.

Post subject:  Re: The Walking Dead

It's unremittingly grim though now really, isn't it? That was basically just an hour of psychopathic abuse, backed up with the constant threat of murderous violence.

Negan is played well enough but he's a bit one-note, and I'm getting fed up with him doing that arching of the shoulders thing and big friendly grin before he issues yet another deadly threat. Yes, we've seen him cave heads in already, I'm sure he'll do it again, go Lucille! TBH I'm starting to think he's a waste of a very talented actor.

I find it hard to believe there's any actual enjoyment to be gleaned from watching this anymore, and to be quite frank I'd be rather concerned about anyone who does.

Which part of Negan in particular do you find to be 'fantastic'? I know we can all enjoy a good baddie to root for the good guys to triumph against in the end, but having watched Donald Fucking Trump just win the US presidential election, watching a fictional psycho winning isn't exactly ringing my bells.

I mean, what do Rick and friends do now? Out-violence them? Out-psycho them? Either way it just seems to be reducing humanity to bestial, hideous, primal brutality - when was the last time TWD actually tried to show us some sort of hope?

Post subject:  Re: The Walking Dead

I love the way he cheerfully torments Rick, knowing full well he is in control. I like his adherence to a the view that jobs should be done properly and the delighted malevolence he regularly displays. I like the way he purposfully says the most terrible things to people because he can. And those teeth, my god those teeth. He is a superb pantomime villain. Could not be done better.

The past few episode have had to be terribly traumatic, the heroes (good) must be at their lowest point before they muster up to defeat the baddies so we can feel happy again. And it has been done well. Except Carl who is still alive.

Bloody love Negan. JDM is one of my favourite actors and he's nailing it.

The show is meant to be bleak. That's sort of the point. And whereas the group have had issues before, there's always been the belief that of course Rick can come up with a plan to win, or Darryl can kick some ass or whatever. So now we've got a situation where the group are losing hope. Is there anything that can be done? Well, I don't expect the show to just be Rick And Friends Grow Food For Negan for the rest of its life, so yeah, something will happen.

Maybe hope lies with Morgan and Carol? Or Ezekial? Or Maggie?

As in, why destroy the mattresses? It's not going to send any more of a message to Rick and company than they've already got (assuming they ever even saw them at all), and they already had them in transit, so unless Negan knows of a nearby John Lewis that's still got lots of nice bedding and mattresses in stock, he'd take the mattresses with him. Like, all those guys that Rick killed at Negan's outpost, they looked like they'd be pleased to get some new mattresses. NO ONE IS MAKING MATTRESSES ANY MORE YOU WOULDN'T SET FIRE TO THEM.

Yes it's the mattresses that'll really get people terrified, not the fact that he cheerfully kills people with baseball bats, or held a woman hostage on pain of death until a couple of missing guns were found.

I get taking the mattresses because mattresses are a nice thing to have in a post-apocalypse wasteland, but setting fire to them when you're already on the way home with them, not so much.

As I've already said though, you achieve that by taking the mattresses in the first place, not by subsequently setting fire to them - and I don't believe the 'send a message' nonsense either.

Like, is Michonne going to get back to Alexandria and say, 'OH MY GOD DON'T MESS WITH NEGAN HE'S PREPARED TO SET FIRE TO MATTRESSES!' And the rest of them will be like, 'Fuck me, brutally murdering two people with a baseball bat and threatening to publicly execute Olivia didn't really bother us, BUT ZOMG NOT THE MATTRESSES! Let's overthrow Rick now!'

Mattresses are a valuable and finite resource in TWD's world, and we know for a fact that one of Negan's outposts was equipped with crap mattresses. You wouldn't set fire to nice mattresses.
