Are you going to come and sort out computers out? I've given up waiting for Trooper. :P

Nah, I need to access data centres with MoD/MoJ systems in them.

I need to renew my sc clearance this year.

Awesome, yay!

(Although not entirely sure what NOMS is/are when not used in the context of yummy food.)

Sorry Jem, it's all acronyms in the Prison Service. It stands for National Offender Management Service. They manage prisons and probation.

Yes I will get a PIN number. To use my card in an ATM machine.

I was making a reference as you get BS/sc/Dv clearance.

That reminds me, not wishing to Elevenerife you, but we just got £897 back from Thames Water. That's a yay, though it is only because we have overpaid them for the last five years by a stupid amount and they only just told us.

A while back I was asked to prepare a 15 minute talk in defence of one of the cruellest and most notorious Confederate guerrillas, William Quantrill, as part of a lighthearted icebreaker session at an annual ACW conference I attend. A very challenging assignment given how nasty he and his crew were, and indeed how much of an anarchic lawless mess Missouri was during that period, and I spent a long time trying to pull things together.

I gave the talk tonight and it went down really well with the audience. Not the kind of presentation I'd normally give, but great fun to be a bit more one-sided and try to play a character for a change, even one as ghastly as Quantrill.

Is there a recording of it? Sounds interesting.

Author:  Kern [ Sat Apr 01, 2017 17:39 ]
Post subject:  Re: The 'Yay!' thread

Thanks. I don't think anyone recorded it. I should probably start doing so myself because it'd be useful to hear my own delivery to identify areas to improve on as well as have a more substantial record of what I said rather than a few bullet points and a selection of scribbled reminders . People have been very complementary about it both last night and today, so I'm pleased.

Conference dinner this evening. Going to wear my somewhat unconvincing 21st century garb for it rather than uniform this year for a change.
