A friend of mine is somewhat bravely/foolishly planning to drive to my house near Edinburgh from down in Englandshire, and his route-map has a big gap in it, oop north.

Does anyone live near Lancaster, Penrith or that sort of area and would be willing to help out an intrepid electric vehicle driver by selling him some electricity? This just requires somewhere to park for a few hours with a normal socket within extension cord reach.

This will be the weekend after next I think. Any offers?

This has to be the strangest request I've ever seen on a web forum.

While I can't help with your request, I do feel the need to point out that driving an electric car that sort of distance strikes me as being rather foolish.

Side note: I wonder what would happen if you rang the AA and said "I've run out of electricity"?

They would say "You need D's mate, AA's are too small" etc.

No need, I already pointed that out in the original post :)

The point is to see whether it can be done, and as a bit of an adventure. The vehicle is coming here to have some work done so the alternatives are to have it brought on a truck at great expense, or me to drive down in a big van laden with tools, which is also expensive.

I'll let you know if I find out..

Much the same as if you rang them to say you'd run out of petrol; they'd tell you to bog off.

Actually, they'll either tow you to a petrol station or (if you have no money) take you to your destination.

I live in Stockton. Which I don't think is any good, it's way off that route. But the offer it there if he wants it.

South Manchester here (just off the M56) and plenty of electric sockets.

Out of sheer curiosity, how fast does the thing go? How far has he been in it already? And what colour is it?

Why don't these new fangled electric cars have some sort of dynamo/alternator style system going on that charges the battery from the kinetic energy of the car in motion?

That would slow the car down.

You can transfer the kinetic energy of the car into electrical energy, and that's used in the brakes of electric cars.
