Anyone else currently got this download(ing?). Mars and I are about to have a go when it goes live in ten minutes. Apparently it's totally grabbed the US 360 owning market.

This is great fun. Doing quite well, if a name question is too obviously easy, don't try to be hair-trigger on the answer for extra points, because it'll be Jeremy Beetle/Beedle/Beedol type stuff and your eye will make you click on Jeremy B.

There also seem to be quite a few disconnects - or some very easy questions are being badly answered.

Anti-chav questions!

"What was 'Citizen Kane's last word?" now, they'll not know that, but I'll probably do ok in the future guessing on questions like "Who is SoBo?".

I can't get in. Can you not join mid-session?

It keeps giving me Primetime errors. Then insists on re-downloading the entire thing each time.

Sweet shit - did you see how many live players there were in that stat update? (Over 30k in at question five so higher than that) Chances of getting in the Mob, let alone being the One, are slim.

I have no idea. The game didn't seem to mind me answering wrongly while I was playing, as I stayed "in" no matter what. The avatars around me were randomly generated, as there were some obvious clones sitting right next to each other in places. Then capped off with Lucy Lui-bot going "Well done player! You eliminated <TWENTY> players!"

Mrs Metal and I both enjoyed the fun... though the pause for a sponsor (to advertise Xbox 360) bemused us somewhat.

The hostess's voice really grates, and the way she says certain words, especially the crucial 'X', 'A' and 'B' really jarred.

Were people actually winning points and prizes?

The points aren't real in the beta, but I'm excited about the real thing! Is this going to be free, then? I fail to see MS' money making angle if it is... Giving away points for nothing? Will it have ads up the wazoo?

By the end of tonight's play, I found myself in the same group of randoms as the forum's own Pundabaya. Aside from that, it was a mixed bag of fun. Most of the questions offered a stupidly stupid set of choices ("Which member of 'Monty Python' played the king in the Shrek movies? John Cheese, John Cleese, or John Squeeze?" FOR CHRIST'S SAKE), and there could have been less waiting around between questions, but otherwise, quite promising. It would have been improved by offering the chance to go up against participating friends from the start, as opposed to random players, but maybe that'll be added later on. It would also have been nice to see your overall rank, i.e. "78996 players participating, your rank: 26356".

Looking at the 'Live Event' menu, it looks like there are going to be themed 1vs100 events each weekday, along the lines of "He Said She Said", "Experts" or "football", so there could well be more of an opportunity to get on the actual "vs100" board. Given the popularity, it's a shame "The One" doesn't get to broadcast their delight or otherwise over their headsets. The live host promised that listing your phone number over xbox.com could see you contacted during the event - phone number? What is this, the middle ages?

If there's going to be a massively multiplayer quiz event over XBL, I'd sooner a version of mid-80s TVS show "Ultra Quiz", where everyone gets to answer questions on a strict "winner stays on" format. That licence probably isn't quite as desirable, however.

At least all the tedious conversations with The One about how they had a funny story about driving to the beach one day are cut out.

There were a few hard questions for me... some actress from Donnie Darko was one question, and who won the Guinness Rugby League Cup was another.

Maggie Gyllenhaal?

Destructiod found a "season pass" listing on Xbox.com, and Microsoft haven't ruled out that this ad-supported only-for-paying-Gold-members game won't have an additional charge. Wheeee!

So, assuming I just wanted to store mp3s for use on blip.fm, would dreamhost do the job for me? I'm not looking to run a website or anything. At least not necessarily anything useful or interesting.

In fact there are Extended Play games all next week between 6pm and 9:30, although outside of the feature episodes they're all Pan European and General Trivia. In theory the more you play, the better the chance of getting selected to be the One or The Mob during next week's proper live show on Friday, and from next week Actual Real prizes will be given out.

It will be interesting to see how many will gamble for the top prize, as the gambles get less worthwhile the more you knock out. This was a bit of a problem with the US telly show too, but that isn't on any more.

When they say you win an XBLA game, do they pick it or do you get a choice?

I don't really need another copy of Undertow.

Their choice.

The prize list is half way down.

It let me download a basic client, then there seemed to be a seperate '1 vs 100 Live' part which I started downloading, inadvertantly entered the game and it resumed downloading before it would let me play.

I set a reminder then noticed it was downloading something in the background if that helps.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Can you only play it at these set times then? (I mean, you have to play against everybody at the same time, you can't play against AI or other randoms who just happen to be about).

I think the intent is for it to be a big event that everyone gathers for... hence the 'ad breaks' so they can sell advertising space on the basis that 100,000 people will see it.

I don't know how the reminders work, but if you know that it's on, just go and start the 1 vs 100 application up. I don't know if you can do it from the 'My Games' tab, you might have to go into the spotlight thing on the dashboard (where you would've set the reminder)
