I've just rewatched Aliens (so you don't have to), and bloody hell, it's like Grim... has never watched it. The beginning bit where the marines storm the reactor area with the "goddamned town meeting", all of the marines who go missing other than Apone and one other whose name escapes me are expressly shown/explained as being dead - so other than the two or three blown up by the ammo explosion, the aliens killed them. Similarly, there are then several people who die after you sees the alien tongue thing come out of its head (including the female dropship pilot, and Burke). Seriously Grim,..., have you actually watched this film?

Apone: Attacked by an Alien, but not killed.
Bishop: Ripped in half by the Queen - which would obviously have killed a human. Wasn't trying to bring back hosts for implantation though, so doesn't count :P
Burke: Not killed by the Alien - note that no-one discovers his body when they break through the door he locked - so dragged off. (a deleted scene exists which shows he survives and is cocooned)
Crowe: Killed by ammunition bag exploding.
Dietrich: First one to be attacked, dragged up off the floor. Dragged off to the nest. "The Sarge and Dietrich ain't dead, man! Their signs are real low, but they ain't dead!"
Drake: Killed by acid spray caused by Vasquez(?) shooting an Alien stood next to him.
Ferro: Most likely attacked by the Alien with a view to being dragged back to the nest, but the Alien won't be smart enough to realise that disabling her would crash the ship and thus kill them both.
Frost: Killed by Dietrich's accidental flamethrower discharge before falling over a railing.
Gorman: See Vasquez.
Hicks: Survives.
Hudson: Dragged under the floor by an Alien, fate unknown. Most certainly dragged off to nest. (apparently Aliens: Colonial Marines confirms this during the game)
Spunkmeyer: Fate unknown, but probably disabled by the Alien, but not killed. Note that there is no blood or anything on the Alien's mouth when it hisses at Ferro moments later.
Vasquez: Kills herself and Gorman with a grenade to avoid being carried off to the nest.
Wierzbowski: Fate unknown, but his screams seem to echo "around" a corner which suggests he's been dragged off rather than killed.

//edit: Got Crowe and Dietrich confused.

Ferro ("carry" in Latin, fact fans) is the only one that might have been deliberately attacked - there was a lot of blood invloved (not that it mattered for long).

Ripley finds Burke toward the end of the film and hands him a grenade in a deleted scene.

Aye, clarified that (and Hudson's fate from A:CM)

Agreed, yes, as per my post.

Indeed.

Why show a shot of the alien mouth and tongue thing coming out if not to imply he got his head caved in? Deleted scenes didn't happen. The intent of the editing in the version that was actually released was clearly that he met his just desserts.

Quote:
Crowe: Killed by ammunition bag exploding.

Yep.

Quote:
Dietrich: First one to be attacked, dragged up off the floor. Dragged off to the nest. "The Sarge and Dietrich ain't dead, man! Their signs are real low, but they ain't dead!"

Yep, the only two who went missing during the attack in the reactor who didn't die, as per my post.

Quote:
Drake: Killed by acid spray caused by Vasquez(?) shooting an Alien stood next to him.

Yep, that was Vasquez's fault.

Quote:
Ferro: Most likely attacked by the Alien with a view to being dragged back to the nest, but the Alien won't be smart enough to realise that disabling her would crash the ship and thus kill them both.

Again, the attack was prefaced with a shot of the tongue thing coming out of its mouth, then a cut to an external shot of the ship, with lots of squelchy noises and claret all over the place. That wasn't an attempt to disable, and the implication of the editing was that she was deliberately killed with the alien's head stabby tongue thing.

Quote:
Frost: Killed by Dietrich's accidental flamethrower discharge before falling over a railing.

Had forgotten about that, yes.

Quote:
Gorman: See Vasquez.

Indeed.

Quote:
Hicks: Survives.

Indeed.

Quote:
Hudson: Dragged under the floor by an Alien, fate unknown. Most certainly dragged off to nest. (apparently Aliens: Colonial Marines confirms this during the game)

"Most certainly"? The game isn't part of the film anyway.

Quote:
Spunkmeyer: Fate unknown, but probably disabled by the Alien, but not killed. Note that there is no blood or anything on the Alien's mouth when it hisses at Ferro moments later.

Given that it deliberately killed Ferro, why wouldn't it have deliberately killed Spunkmeyer?

The aliens have a lot of goopy drool shit on them, of course, so it may have cleaned itself off very quickly.

Quote:
Vasquez: Kills herself and Gorman with a grenade to avoid being carried off to the nest.

Or to avoid being killed, as far as she knows.

Quote:
Wierzbowski: Fate unknown, but his screams seem to echo "around" a corner which suggests he's been dragged off rather than killed.

This is rather reaching a bit.

And as Hudson notes, the only two missing marines who are showing vital signs are the sarge and Dietrich. Ergo Wierbowski's dead, dude. And the aliens did it.

The Aliens in Aliens are deliberately weaker than the Alien in um... Alien.

The story in Alien is basically Slasher Flick ... IN SPACE. So a 7 foot tall killing machine fits that story.

The story in Aliens is about a well equipped, but dumb, force taking on an outnumbering, low tech enemy with local knowledge. Vietnam... IN SPACE. So a weaker but co-operative force fits that story. (and the colonial marines are spectacularly dumb. Rolling into an ambush with no intel whatsoever on what they were facing, only realising that their guns couldn't be used under the nuclear reactor AFTER deploying, not realising the Aliens are using the ventilation tunnels to move until far too late, leaving their dropship on the planet... )

The line is "Hey, look! The Sarge and Dietrich aren't dead!". The word "only" doesn't appear in there ;)

Phezackerly. The layout of those monitors was essentially all horizontal, hence Gorman needing a chair on a rail to slide across and keep tabs on everyone.

Hudson was obviously just looking at the two monitors he had closest to him.

those monitors that are all visible from where they were standing, and all have very obvious vital signs squiggles on them that sort of you know jump out as being flat or not flat?

Not one of the vital sign monitors crapped out during the entire film, funnily enough. Stop clinging on to this ridiculous interpretation of a made up story, you loonbuckets.

Only one of us is going through fairly tenuous arguments to support their position, and the other one is using the famous razor. Hint, you're the logically beardy khant.
