Shamelessly reposted from another forum -

This right here is why bedroom development is such a good thing.

A while back, there was an artists impression of what an HD remake of the Mega Drive classic Sonic 2 would look like doing the rounds, you may have seen it -

Hot, no?
Well, a bunch of highly talented people from the 'sonic community' have decided that they want to make this artists impression a reality.
The team consists of TheSonicRetard (author of the Hedgehog Engine), Tweaker (the creator of Sonic Megamix), BlazeHedgehog and Cinossu (who have already put together the remixed soundtrack) and others.
Work so far is in early stages, but still looking incredible so far.

This guy knows what he's doing. I did an article on Sonic Megamix for RGCD4 and was very impressed.

Oh aye? Could I have a 1 line summary? I've no idea what it is, or what it's for or anything, but it always gets mentioned.

As fun as a remake of Sonic 2 would be, I'm not sure if I'd think more than 'oooh, slightly better antialiased graphics!' for 10 minutes before doing something else. Still loved S2 in it's day. 19, 65, 09, 17. 1, 9, 9, 2, 1, 1, 2, 4. (reset). 4, 1, 2, 6.

It's probably the only sequence of numbers I remember from childhood.

I would prefer a Hi-res master system Sonic 1.

As that's the best Sonic ever yo!

Ahhh, I remember many hours spent just playing the first level, over and over, trying to do it faster than 18 seconds ;)

A hack (although the word doesn't imply the amount of work) of the Sonic Megadrive ROM which changes the levels, music, adds spin ability, 2 extra characters and a bunch of power ups. and generally creates an ambitious and almost completely successful Sonic 1.5.

Awesome. Edit: Just been watching the full run on Shadow mode. Jesus christ, what kind of person has the time for something like this?

Alas no, I seriously genuinely did this. The trick, of course, was pushing left *just* at the right time while you were waiting for the scrolling to catch up, so by the time it did, you were hitting the end post.

I also seem to recall reading a mag (probably mean machines sega) where the best high scores were posted, and trying earnestly to beat them. Well spent youth, clearly.

I went into that competition as a kid! And I beat the time you had too do. In fact I think I would have won. BUT my mum wouldn't develop the film the proof was taken on till the competition had ended. Man the world before digital cameras sucked.

Location: Nottingham. Again. No, wait, I'm back in Manchester.
Sonic 1 Megamix is an amazing piece of work, I abandoned my own geeky little Sonic edit when I heard Tweaker was releasing that.

I'm a proper, dribbling Sonic fanboy, but this isn't exciting me terribly; Sonic 2 is about as perfect as can be. And if they change anything about the boss theme, I'll murder them with guns. Anyone heard the Powerglove cover of it?
