RAW is, I think, just an umbrella term applied to "no compression not even lossless" camera formats (in whatever byte order/colour depth/that-thing-I-can't-for-the-life-of-me-remember-the-name-of,-YUV/4:2:2-type-stuff they fancy, and including whatever metadata they fancy, also in whatever random format they fancy). TWAIN is a specification to allow applications to talk to scanner/camera drivers/tools consistently.

If you bother checking the "details" tab on the OS updates on your mac, you'll notice that the most frequently appearing thing is raw (well, they say RAW) support for new cameras.

I assume there's an office somewhere in California with one each of the very latest cameras from all manufacturers all stacked in the corner...

There is no right way to call it, it's just easy and incorrect to assume that it's actually an acronym and consequently a format when it's capitalised.

Also any recommendations for Camera Tripods? Ideally compact but tall, I have a small one although it too tall for it to be useful most of the time.

A good tripod will outlast several cameras, so don't scrimp.

See what the shops will give you for it? They always seem to add a couple of hundred quid to a good second hand lens for reasons unknown.... well when their selling them anyway.

I've also been looking at that 35mm, I think that will be what I ask Santa for, I've spent quite enough already.

OH! Found out something interesting about my kit lens. Apparently it only gets pin sharp results around f/11 to f/18, with anything after increasingly softer. F/5.6 and up to f/11 is pretty good though. The thing is, in landscape photography I was always thinking that narrower aperture is automatically sharper, but it ain't the case.

The part of my brain that is really bad at keeping hold of money is suggesting that I buy a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ8 as a pocket camera. I'm not listening to it, but it won't shut up.
