They sound like fun, and for that price they're next to nothing.

Saw this while reading up on Holgas and D5000s

Oh and before I forget I caved in and ordered the Nikon 55-200 VR for £120 feel free to mock, go ahead, I'll be right over here being overwhelmed with the joy of having a VR lens again. God I miss VR.

I'd only mock you for collecting lenses like Pokémon. It's a great lens, love mine.

I love this 55-200 af-S VR lens :D it's exactly the range I need, I'm hand holding without worrying and it's sharp as a tack

That looks like someone's taken the second image, blurred it, and swapped them around to totally change time.

From the "why didn't I think of that" department: magnetically coupled lens filters.

Start with a narrow aperture and long depth of field and everything will be in focus at the start anyway.

You mean f22? There is no way you can get the same bokeh by doing it in PS though.

I think this is fantastic, need to read proper reviews first, I know the picture size is going to be very small but this thing would be perfect for my parents to take on holiday or for people just uploading things to facebook. The design is inspired, as is the square format. I thought it would look like a normal camera but this thing actually looks cool. Hope it sells well so they get to do bigger format next gen cameras, if they pull that off then they can just take my money.

They seem to be quite a way short of what's needed on the software front. It would appear that currently all you can do with the photos you've taken is upload them to the vendor's website and view them through there. Presumably because they've got a flash viewer for the files. What you really need to be able to do is fiddle about with where you want the focus to be locally, then export a RAW image out from that.

Nikon Thailand which makes the D3100, D5100, D7000, D300s and all the entry level zooms. Sony's DSLR plant is just up the road, they have shut down production of all DSLRs and micro 4/3s and postponed the release of the A77, A65, and NEX-7.

Yup, and being largely ignored by the media. One of the obvious concerns facing industry is that the big businesses will re-open when the floods go down rather than relocate, Nikon Japan have given a (undisclosed) large amount of money to Thailand hopefully this means they will stick with them.

It's a nice lens, but I'm not convinced it's worth well over 3 times the price of either manufacturers nifty fifty.

It depends, if you were after a true macro and a 35 to partner with a kit lens then it's certainly one to look at.

Maybe because it's a 35mm?

Too dear anyway. For that money you could buy a Nikkor 50mm and Tamron 90mm for macro and still have change for a Nandos.

Mmmm... Nandos.

Well quite, but if you're going to get a mid-range, fast, fixed focal length lens, I would argue that the difference between 35mm and 50mm (even with the crop factor), makes an extra £300 hard to justify.

It would depend on the focusing speed. I have the 35 1.8 DX A-FS and the 50 1.8 FX AF and for all the sharpness the 35 isn't a rocket ship and the 50 is noticeably worse, it's what put me off getting the macro converters. From what I'm reading the Tokina outstrips both of them which does put it in a different category. Can't afford it mind, but it is on my amazon wish list.

My Unkie Scott's just lent me his Minolta X-7A with lush 50mm f/1.7 SLR film camera. Quoth he, "It hasn't been out since George W. Bush's re-election." There's snow forecast this aft, just a few centimetres, but it should make an interesting sight for dinky small town Bradford, a place that mostly seems not to have left the 1940's - 50's. Anyway, seems a very nice camera, just waiting while he nips over to grab the batteries for her from a store.

Yay film \o/

There is a new free image editing program that can apparently do many nifty things http://www.imagemagick.org/script/index.php
I'm reading that there is a thing you can do called averaging with multiple exposers with it, in the command line put: convert *.jpg -average result.jpg and interestingness will ensue.

Sony SLT-A77 review is up http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonyslta77/page26.asp

I'm not sure the :words: quite match their own data. Check out the noise you get even at iso 200. You can really see it on the colour chart on the top left http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonyslta77/page25.asp what's worse is that this is advertised as a semi-pro that can do up to 16,000 iso and it just simply cant. The D7000 wipes the floor with it as does the canon 550D let alone the newer 600D and while we are at it my D300 is better at lower iso and is the same at higher. I know some people will go so what about the noise but check this out:

Iso 3200 on a semi-pro camera made this year.

Image

If you are after shitloads of in-camera processing bells and whistles then this is the camera for you otherwise jesuschrist

I am so disappointed. I really do like sony cameras and had bets on the A55's successor being a D7000 killer. :(

edit: 19-point focusing and no custom white balance on a top of the range £1599 camera? Feck off sony.

My dad went through some of the boxes from my grandma's old attic and found some of her bingo haul which include a couple of brand new slr bodies; a Nikon F-801S (known in the US as the BOOBs) and a canon 300v, ebay informs me that they are worth £50 between them but it's the victory that is so sweet here.

There is a rant but I deleted it: tl;dr my grandma was a bitchy old goat who hated women, the cameras were probably for my brother and cousin James the year she passed away, his sister and I would have got something shit like a fairy diary, again.

WANT:

http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/rolle ... 6/91683164

I'm really itching for some medium format action, and this one looks like a beauty. Shame it's so dang near Christmas, I don't think I could really spring for this until New Year. Hopefully it'll still be on sale then. :'(

Should make for a superb portrait camera at any rate. I'm not sure why I'm telling you other gear-grabbers this, as it only introduces competition, but oh-my-yes, I do want this camera.

Quote:
Rolleiflex 2.8/3.5 Tessar Twin Lens Reflex 6x6 T2 Camera – 1961-1966 this is a Metered Unit c/w Rollei Genuine Mirrored Lens Cap.

An incredible Rolleiflex TLR camera from circa 1962 serial number T2167484 Franke & Heidecke (T2 1961-1966) - Synchro Compur. This is a much more highly sought after Metered Camera. 2.8/75 Viewing Lens 3.5/75 Carl Zeiss Tessar photographic lens.

This camera is in full working order and leather outer is in great condition without rips, tears or damage – many Rolleis advertised have poor exterior leather – this one looks great. Pop up magnifier works perfectly as does shutter and viewing etc. This is not a standard T2 unit this is a metered unit and therefore more desirable and collectable as reflected on Ebay, Gumtree and elsewhere.

Cardiff Camera shop have confirmed Meter and Shutter are working fine.

Comparable Rolleiflex TLRs are being advertised between £500 - £1,680 both in the UK and the USA.

You can still obtain other collectable accessories such as leather cases, filters, telephoto lens, lens hoods and much more - and at reasonable prices to add further value to this incredible escalating useable investment.

This unit comes with the collectable original Rollei F&H Twin Lens Mirror Lens Cap (Mirror Lens Caps are currently being sold by others on Ebay for £72).

I have owned this unit for 35 years and it’s been a great exhibition talking point as well as providing amazing clear 6x6 pictures and negatives with pictures that have been enlarged. Results from the Rollei have always been right up there with my Hasselblad results.

This camera is insured (as advised by brokers) for £500 - I have sent further information to the insurer identifying that this should now be increased to £1,000 value.

This is an appreciating collectable useable classic camera that is amazing for coming up to 50 years of age - now needs a new caring owner to take it up to it's first 100 year centenary.

My son was due to inherit but as he prefers guitar he’d rather have this inheritance now so that he can buy a guitar…no accounting for taste!

I will include Free UK Mainland Delivery in the price advertised at £275.

If I'm frugal this month and the next I can, I think, on Dec. 16th. Just.

But it's safer waiting until January. Man, it looks cool. £275 for an old manual film camera instead of a computer upgrade though, what's wrong with me? What is happening to me? :nerd:

Ha.

I sometimes think of the cost of my amp and turntable I bought and the stuff I could have bought instead, but I don't regret it for a second. You know when you just have to have something.

Ok used http://www.vistaprint.co.uk/ to order 6 of these calenders, total cost was £47.45 including VAT and 6 day delivery (came in 4). Warning they charge you small upload fees so upload as much as you can at once. It felt like a risk as the price was 1/2 it would be anywhere else but the quality is excellent, colours are bang on (I uploaded jpeg but there are other file type options including tiff) and they are normal large wall calenders (I was worried by the lack of size information on the site), I would say they would be worth £10 each if you bought them in a shop. I'll use them next year for calendars and cards and maybe test them again with a poster/canvas print (under show all family options)

I would add that it's awesome to see my photos printed up professionally :hat:

edit: if anyone else uses them then we should do a round robin of referring as you get £10

I looked at them for getting the pics.from.beex photobook printed up, but they only do horrible spiral bound books, unfortunately.

The best I could find was £25 a pop, and that would only give us 20 photos.

Ask them how much for 2.5 photos.

I've used vistaprint before and have always been very happy with them, never used them for photo albums though

I'm looking for a new compact camera to replace my Fiju Finepix E550. It doesn't have to be super small, I just like always having my camera in my bag so that's why I'm looking for a compact rather then a big camera.
With all the choices out there, does anyone have a tip?
