Looking at some of the videos of the new Microsoft Flight Sim, I can see a PC upgrade in my future. It would be nice if could get away with just a graphics card but I think that might be optimistic. It's a Dell XPS from 2013 with an i7 and 12GB RAM so wasn't a bad machine, but will it be worth sticking with? |

I updated windows yesterday evening before bed. Woke up this morning and it won't even boot. Hangs at the BIOS splash screen, I can't even get into the BIOS. It's dead innit? I've tried removing the graphics card and running on motherboard graphics, reseating the ram, swapping out the ram sticks and only running on one, unplugging each hard disk in turn, unplugging all peripherals. Not sure what else I can do, if I can't even get into the BIOS. Plugging in a USB drive with a linux rescue disk on it does nothing either. |

Fans power up, no beeps. If I pull the first ram stick it beeps at me, when I put it back in the slot no beeps, hangs at the BIOS loadup screen. |

Is there a BIOS reset jumper on the mobo? Remove everything except CPU, one RAM stick and keyboard, connect monitor to onboard GFX, reset bios and see anything happens. |

I'm coming to the conclusion that either the CPU or motherboard ist kaput. I can't even get the BIOS to load past the splash screen with everything unplugged, no hard disks, no SSD, no CD drive, no graphics card, single ram stick. |

Make that 15 minutes. Wouldn't boot without the battery in (to be expected) put battery in started up, nothing on monitor, rebooted twice... hung at Lenovo splash screen again. |

BIOS reset as DavPaz suggests? Could perhaps be a PSU problem too. It's not really often that motherboards or CPUs fail, in fact I'm not sure I've ever seen it. |

I've pulled the battery which should reset the BIOS (no jumper as far as I can tell) PSU was new not long ago, when I bought my graphics card. |

While I don't think the motherboard is "faulty" as such, I had problems with a previous windows update due to Lenovo being dicks and not knowing how to code anything. I suspect it has gone into lockdown mode because something changed due to the windows update, and that has fucked everything. |

If you're gaming 3600. If you're running VM, streaming and encoding 2700x. 3600 better IPC and higher clocks (good for low Res gaming) but 2700x still has the edge when all cores are being used. You can't go wrong with any Ryzen tbh. That's what I was going to say. They're all pretty shit hot for the money. |

Ooo you bloody arseholes.  Finally a decent priced RTX card. Right at the time my Vega 64 is giving me all sorts of shit. Crumbled. I am weak. Still, it came with a £40+ game I would have purchased any way, and performs around the same as my Titan XP. Which is nice. The Vega 64? well that doesn't perform well at all really. It's touted in GPUZ as a 1600 odd mhz card. Fat fucking chance. Even pushed to the limit it will only do 1500 or so, and then it gets very loud, angry and hot and crashes. The only way I can get it dependably stable for long gaming sessions is to shove it in "Radeon chill" which clocks it to about 1200mhz. I would say it's the last high end AMD card I am ever getting, but to be honest for £200 a year ago it was a steal. So, that is going into what was going to be my FO76 server to make another complete gaming PC for my bedroom. |

Well it came and I am immensely impressed. I guess I have AMD to thank for bringing out the 5700 cards. I have a Titan XP in my machine at home, and I wasn't expecting the 2070s to quite match it, given people all say the 2070s is on par with the 1080Ti. This is not true. I have my machine at home overclocked and extensively water cooled to the point of saturation. What I mean is there is no more clock available on anything in it, and it's not a thermal barrier. This is my Titan XP at 2100mhz. Which is super impressive, given 1080Ti crap out at around 2000mhz.  And this is the 2070 Super, on air cooling with a +150 on the core. I've not touched the memory, it always worries me.  So if it's faster than a Titan XP on water (which is faster than any 1080Ti) on air then it's a good chunk faster than a 1080Ti. Which is about the best value I've seen out of Nvidia since the original Titan and 780. |

Now that I have a full PC without a case I was needing a case. This will be my TV gaming PC. Last week I managed to do this to a previously pristine example of a 2004 Alienware case.  I was absolutely devastated. I thought about repairing it, but the whole thing is so brittle (being 15 years old) that I don't think it's a good idea to load it up with very heavy hardware. So instead I scoured OCUK's clearance section and found this.

Yeah it's not so little in person  I took the panels off and was pulling stuff out of the inner chassis and the inner chassis toppled over and landed on that ^ The problem is that not only did it crack that in half (making the entire bottom floppy) but it also broke all of the tags that hold the plastic to the inner metal panel. So it would need like, extensive repair. Then lots of modding. It's that I am trying to avoid. I'll epoxy it sorta thing, but I just don't think it's a good idea to load it up with really heavy parts. It's extremely brittle
