Man, mornings without coffee suck balls.

I'm just sitting here in a trance like state staring at the walls and yawning from time to time.

That's why I've never bothered with the stuff. It only seems to serve to satiate your own caffeine addiction.

Caffiene is good for the heart. Coffee and tea are also good for the heart with no other side effects.

Edit. Plus I think the downs are a comin' tbh. When I can't even be assed to make coffee I know I'm going downward.

I just hope my tests come back so I can take something. Last winter doing the downs with no meds was hell. Absolute hell.

Internet says mainly the opposite. For example http://www.webmd.com/mental-health/news ... your-heart

Doesn't stop me drinking it though :)

Probably.

Coffee contains tannin and antioxidants, which are good for the heart and arteries, she says.

It can relieve headaches.

It is good for the liver - and can help prevent cirrhosis and gallstones.

And the caffeine in coffee can reduce the risk of asthma attacks - and help improve circulation within the heart.

Sorry man it's been proven with scientific fact that drinking coffee is good for you. I've been reading about it for years.

It's not just her though man. I've been reading studies for years about the effects of coffee.

It's been proven scientifically to stimulate the heart and actually keep it going time and time again.

As for her? Well she probably read the reports or something :D

JC, your understanding apparently doesn't extend to the ability to grasp that a chemical might stimulate one part of a body whilst doing harm to another parts. Consider amphetamines, for example, which definitely stimulate the heart. Would you take speed as a health tonic?

You're in a hole, son. Stop digging.

Sorry dad. But this time I will take side with science.

http://www.opposingviews.com/arguments/ ... ic-studies

Quote:
Caffeine Safety has been Affirmed By Hundreds of Scientific Studies
Dr. Richard Adamson

Scientific Consultant, Amer. Bev. Assoc.

Both the U.S. Surgeon General’s office and the National Academy of Sciences National Research Council report there has been no association established between caffeine, as normally consumed in our diet, and an increased risk to health.

And it goes on.

Quote:
More recently medical scientists, expert in the field published a caffeine monograph in Food and Chemical Toxicology v. 40, 2000 on the effects of caffeine on childhood, human behavior, withdraw, on bone and the calcium economy, and reproductive hazards in women and found no consistent adverse effects with moderate caffeine consumption, with these various areas of human health.

So as I say I will stick with the scientists on this one. Especially as science has also explained how coffee is good for you.

Speed on the other hand? well along with most ampehtamines has been proven time and time again to screw you up, including but not limited to, bone marrow cancer.

Bit different then.

JC. Notice the bit where it says moderate consumption. By your own admission you already drink more than what can be classed as moderate.

I'm not weighing in on one side or the other here. I just don't think coffee is as safe as you make out, or indeed as dangerous as anyone else is making it out to be.

The vast majority of scientific evidence clearly shows that the harm caused by a high amount of coffee consumption far outweighs any benefits. For every two links supporting your opinion I could post fifty stating the opposite.

But there is no point really if you want to think its doing you good then that's fine.

Also "no consistent detrimental effects" and "really good for you" very much aren't the same thing. No-one's saying don't drink coffee (I love the stuff), but it's hardly a health tonic.

I've cut right back on it lately. Only make it every three days and drink less. Not because of any ill effects but because I have expensive taste in coffee :D

Today I sat and stared at the walls yes. I was also daydreaming. It isn't because I hadn't had any coffee it's how I am. Infact, it was the reason I started drinking coffee in the first place. My doctor reakons it could be the autism or the down side of bipolar. Coffee snaps me out of it and wakes me up. Otherwise I am like the walking dead for about three hours after waking up.

Fair enough man :)

When I first started drinking it I read all about it. The FDA have done numerous studies on it (all scientific) because Americans drink more of it than any one else. And the upshot is that it contains antioxidants and so on that are good for your body aswell as other things.

It used to be claimed that caffiene was bad for your heart. That isn't to be after scientific study.

I suppose it depends on which point of view you decide to take really. I just go with scientific fact. Especially when it comes to the body.

Stop saying that. There's equally good evidence for it being harmful as there is for it being of benefit in moderation.

There are enough studies to show that caffeine consumption can both cause headaches and screw the heart.

Of course, one member of my immediate family has heart issues in part due to the effects caffeine can have - and this was just coffee being provided by people going on coffee break in the office.

And over-stimulation? Can cause permanent damage.

And I have read countless. Top of the list being the one by the FDA and carried out by scientists.

They're all carried out by scientists - don't forget scientists are all on someone's payroll, too. I'd like to read that FDA study if you have a link.

Read it on paper. I used to work for a health company who were FDA approved. Read lots of studies on diabetes too.

Must be a good one, the FDA site doesn't seem to mention it.

Of course, this is the same FDA that ignored scientific evidence and kowtowed to the demands of industry on more than one occasion.

I'm aware the FDA can be brought. Seen a few examples of that.

But it's not just their reports I have read. When I say read countless reports I mean, countless reports. And none of these reports have concluded that coffee is detrimental to your health. Unless of course you had an exisiting condition that was triggered by stimulants.

Every study I have read is more often than not scientific or based on science. And every one I have read comes up with about the same. Broken down into ingredients coffee is good for you.

Any detrimental effects mentioned from coffee are never proven, just some doctor's opinion. And that opinion isn't usually based on fact.

I should note however that I mean fresh coffee from beans. Not freeze dried or flavoured coffee.

Just read most of that. Firstly the document (well the original case study) is from 1997. Secondly the adverse effects it mentions are not even caused by caffeine or have not been linked with the caffeine. For example -

Quote:
Caffeinated soft drinks have also been linked to weight gain which can increase a person's risk of diabetes and other related diseases.

Yes, that would be because they're absolutely stuffed full of sugar. Also, that report claims that caffeine causes stress and hypertension. Yet in the link I posted earlier it was said that it caused neither (again using science).

I suppose it just comes down to what you believe really. I can stop drinking coffee completely with no side effects or anything else, yet in that document it mentions gastro problems and so on.

No idea. But then that article isn't really about coffee.

So what relevance has "well, it was in 1997" then?

Why aren't they selling it in Alienware jars, then?
