A lovely piece on the BBC website about the Radiophonic Workshop with Dick Mills and Mark Ayres (the man who should be doing the new Who music instead of that tone deaf twit Gold).

Fascinating article, thanks for the linky. The Radiophonic Workshop really were pioneers. I also liked the Tripod screaching-trilling 'hunting horn' sound that used to utterly terrify me as a kid, and reinforce my fear of pylons. Cheers Radiophonics! *Twitches violently*

As for Murray Gold, the infuriating thing is that he can and often does produce very good music for Doctor Who, it's just that the man has no restraint and they mix the music track far too loud. If it was sparser throughout an episode and a little quieter, he'd be highly effective.
