Me either. To be honest, the forced humour that swirled around this place during that time wasn't my cup of tea either. I much prefer the off-the-cuff stuff we get these days.

Apart from those prices, who the hell orders a bottle of Scotch with dinner?

Yeah, that. Basically you need the site to have two different "report this post" mechanisms. Otherwise the occasional real problem report gets lost underneath the POTW nominations, which is bad form.

Oh yeah, because today's Monty Python recication is far more fresh and original.

I was sad to see Beex Weex go, but I think we've moved on since then.

And, since I was complicit in it's downfall (in an 'agreeing with Dudley' capacity), I reckon I should just shut up.

Technically, I would either make one of the "report this post" report types have a different icon in the main page (so the problem reports are visually distinct -- or even no icon at all for the POTW ones), or I would look at subverting one of the "thanks for this post" phpbb plugins.

Edit -- subverting the latter could lead to a simple weekly "these posts got the most POTW nominations" vote count, which could be automated.

BeexWeex was great for the "community spirit" of it, and the thrill of recognition if people reckoned you'd said something funny, but you probably have a point there.
I was sorry to see it end though, especially under those circumstances.

I used to like Beex week *and* POTW was a part of it but not the whole thing , there was a lot more on just what happened in the forum for that week.

One of the big advantages was when something went screeching wildly off topic in a thread you were not interested in you got to find out about it (however these days I think the rule is something like if number of pages >= 3 its worth checking out cause it wont have anything to do with the original post anyway)

To be honest, I liked Beex Weex, but I'd rather it only had one POTW. When it had lists and lists of them, it just seemed to be a bit rubbish. IMO, obv.

We should have one of those "rate this post" functions, like the Daily Mail comments section which we have so come to resemble.

Similar story there, although I'm not giving up. I've been flat-out working on some patient care reporting software for Merkin paramedics for the last 9 months as well, which doesn't help :P

Oh go on! It'd be ace because (a) it'd be fun to turn the whole site into even more of a popularity contest than it already is and (b) you'd enjoy implementing it!

Haha, I forgot about that, I'd had a few ales during dinner (the Champion Shell still does a great meal, Gill) & by that point we'd retired to my pal's for a few more. I did wonder why I'd woke up with a message from him saying "lolololol".
