I'm giving up smoking atm (due to becoming Dad++) which appears to be giving me really vivid dreams...

I was playing a new version of Duke Nukem, which was live-action, so we went to a big warehouse which had rooms for the various levels. I climbed onto this gantry, and was swung across a cavern painted with lurid flames to a cradle much like the ones in Total recall. Then I found out they wanted to download the game into my head using very old CD players, which clearly had the security labels from Gremlin (where I used to work). As I knew how shonky these were, I refused, escaped the chair and ran out of the room, and bumped into an old work colleague who smuggled me out. Having got outside (being chased by a giant security guard who was also the producer of the game I had just ruined), I realised I left my wife & daughter in there.
On the way back, I saw the guard again, and ducked into a tent that turned out to be full of Rastas. They gave me soup.
When I left the tent, I was wandering around the backstreets of Cambridge, when suddenly I was mugged by a dwarf with red hair. After defeating him (punching him on the nose & running away), he then appeared again riding a unicycle with a steam-roller wheel. After knocking him off that, he submitted, and I started chatting to him, and he said he was called Aragorn, and was waiting for his student friends who were from Pippin college. Then I woke up.

I fear I may be going slowly mad...

Ah, I've heard that giving up smoking causes some messed up dreams. Dunno if they tend to be unpleasant, though.

Not giving up smoking per se but I tend to find that leaving a nicotine patch on all night results in some pretty vivid dreams.

I had the most odd dream last night, Myp, Bobbyaro and I were sent in to sort the Eurozone crisis out, Myp was to take over Greece, I was going to run Italy, and Bobby was just floating around making ghostly noises into a glass...

At the press conference, Myp answered every question, with "You don't win friends with salad" and I kept on making "your mum" jokes in German after everything Angela Merkel said...

"Ihre Mutter muss ökonomische Stabilität"

Very odd!

I think it's time to consider that attending the cottage might cause long term psychological damage.

I had an awesome dream last night. I went to a club where someone was demonstrating their Kinect hack which combined with a projector to have real-time animations on t-shirts. Someone said "Hey, that's great, I think the thing I have at home would work really well with that. Come on everyone!"

Back at their house, they had a prototype home theatre with several speakers on every wall, each with a computer-controlled LED projector. Several Kinects and some hacking (about a minute) later, the projectors were firing 3D t-shirts, wacky 'glow in the dark' hairstyles, 'tattoos' onto everyone in the room and the club night continued.

Unfortunately, someone then knocked me unconscious and stole my phone; after I woke a child with a 40s mobster suit projected onto him gave me a message and I went after them, into a derelict housing estate, and was knocked unconscious again and fell into a collapsed section. Woke up lying on top of the guy who stole my phone (also knocked unconscious), and shortly after I woke up. This bit wasn't awesome.

Confusingly, for 5 or 10 minutes after waking up I had psychedelic patterns sliding over my vision in layers, so my brain was clearly still trying to be asleep to enjoy the technology.

I dreamt last night I was playing a game of cricket in my parents' living room. I remember being a very handy slip fielder and having to hurdle a sofa to get the ball at one point.

This week I seem to be dreaming mainly about women I work with or have worked with. Women who are wholly unsuited to me and are much younger than me.

I assume my midlife crisis has now started. Still, at least I'm not dreaming about gambling.

I went to the doc for a medication review yesterday, and last night I dreamt that I fainted when I was having my blood pressure taken. I knew I was going to faint and told the doc. Then I fainted, but I could still hear what the doc was saying and I tried to talk, but I couldn't. Then I woke up and felt completely incapable of movement for a few seconds.

The other night I had a dream that Markg, Baz and I went round to see Mark's real dad who lived around the corner from his house. He was someone we all kind of knew but it was the first time Mark (or any of us) had heard of this. He had a nice house but wouldn't let me and Baz in so we mooched around his back garden while Mark went in for a chat. Baz and I went over to a pond where a huge brass water pump was running with it's cover removed, full of cogs whizzing around, it looked very impressive. Baz dropped his cash cards into the machine somehow as he peered over it. He was looking in trying to suss if he could reach them and wouldn't listen to me saying don't stick your hand in get it switched off first. His hand did get caught but to my surprise rather than ripping it off he pulled it out in one piece but it looked like rolled out pasta.

I had a dream the other night. It lurched away from whatever world I was in, very abruptly bringing me to the point where I was about to have sex with Nigel Clough. He was lying on the grass, not even bothering to be alluring, so sure was he that the deal was about to be done. I remember being interested, then looking properly and deciding that, really, the blue tracksuit was not a good look, regardless of the way his hand paused so seductively on the top's zip.

Thankfully I woke up, and I've really not investigated myself any further.

Last night I dreamed I was in a batcave (not The Batcave) with Craster*.

He had a device a bit like a torch, but it shone an infra-red beam. Whatever the infra-red was pointed at it would instantly scan and an attached screen would pop up a picture, and name/description of the item. Mostly he was pointing it at bats.

*Interestingly at the beginning of the dream I didn't seem to quite know if it was Grim... or Craster I was standing beside, but then my brain kind of said, in my dream, 'ok, who is it' and had to make a decision, and my brain said 'ok it's... Craster!' and up he popped.

I thought I hadn't dreamed anything last night (that I could remember) but it popped into my head my boss telling me off for coming in to work in casual clothes on Thursday instead of Friday.
Him: "What are you wearing?"
Me: (realising the wrong day): "Um... it's smart-ish."

I am bizarre.

That's not unreasonable. The bats won't scan themselves.

They're practically the same, but one smells of oil and databases and the other smells of pans and badgers.

Yes, the noodle dream.

(What? If the noodle dream is really rude then no, I mean the one where you are the world's least convincing ninja and I save you by making floating stepping stones out of pancakes so you can cross the quicksand outside Maida Vale tube station.)

I had a dream the other night that I went to buy a bag for all my camera stuff and the sales assistant was Gordon Burns. He was very polite, helpful and knowledgeable but didn't have what I was looking for. I was surprised that he was having to work in a camera shop but I didn't say anything or even let on that I recognised him as it would have been awkward.

I dreamt we were at a Cottage-style get together, though it wasn't as plush. We were huddled in the 'second house' of the place watching old videos on a TV.

The next video came on. The music sounded familiar, and the title appeared: "The $4000 Ribbon". I whispered to Mrs Meaty that it was Miracle Mile, and she agreed. That must be the weird UK retitling of it, I decided.

It wasn't anything like Miracle Mile is for real. A young Harrison Ford stood in a large downtown square in LA, dressed in a cheap, light grey suit. He was on leaving a message on a woman's answering machine, asking if she had a good time last night. He gave the number of the payphone, saying he was 'hanging around here pretty much all day anyway'.

A lot of characters from the Cowboys faction in Tombstone were there, but in 1980s gang member dress, running around and shooting guns and committing crimes. It was very strange and wasn't really going anywhere. A few of those watching the movie with us committed the film was 'pretty stupid', and I said it hasn't gotten going yet.

At this point, Anthony Edwards finally makes his appearance (though bald like today, not with the hair he had back in the day) and everyone said hey, it's that guy from ER! He was being thrown out of a convenience store. I paused the video and said he's the protagonist.

The nuclear attack was coming, and we saw into NORAD watching the little blips representing bombers moving across the big map.

Anthony Edwards, meanwhile, was living a wacky life. He and two friends were being filmed dressed as knights (costumes not unlike those of Sir Bedevere) dancing. I jumped up and impersonated the crappy dance.

Meanwhile, at NORAD, the generals were saying they couldn't really do anything, and it would be great if something went wrong with the Russian attack.

At that point I found myself in the movie. I was the bombardier in a Russian bomber, flying over the Mojave. Unlike Yossarian's cramped compartment in Catch-22, the space inside this bomber was enormous. It was also covered with thick white padding like school gym mats. I bounced over the maps to the glass nose and peered into the bombsight. Seemingly not an evil Russian, I opened the bomb bay doors and released the bomb. LA was still in the distance, and the bomb plunged towards the desert scrub below. It occured to me we were perhaps 1500 feet up.

The bomb exploded, and the pilot came on the radio yelling at the crew that someone had just dropped the bomb early, and that because the bomb bay doors had been open the sealed atmosphere of the plane had been exposed to 'deep space'. I bounced back up towards the main part of the plane, fully expecting the crew to come and beat me up (the bombardier being the first suspect when the bombs are released) but nothing happened.

It didn't matter. Back in LA the Cowboy gang guys were all running around with other people dressed in 80s clothes. Everyone was waving some sort of gun around and running around the square from earlier. Nobody could understand what was happening, there was dust and shit everywhere. I found that I was now in the role of a 1980s woman with big hair.

Down on the beach at Santa Monica, an eerie twilight due to the dust clouds blocked the sun. The sand was damp and cloying. People were running around everywhere. I somehow knew another bomb was about to hit. People were trying to bury themselves in the sand and I dived to the ground to duck and cover, and then started digging a hole to put my head inside. I then tried to pull sand in on top of my head to cover my exposed neck and hands.

The bomb hit, and despite having my head under the sand my eyelids lit up brightly inside with the flash. When the blast wave hit the force was enough to start pulling me out of the little ostrich hole I'd dig for myself. I dug my fingers into the sand and tried to hold myself inside my hole as the hurricane force wind pulled at me.

We were in a rundown part of Santa Monica now. Law and order was breaking down, and we were looking for a place to hole up. Electricity was still working, though I reasoned the power plants were out of town and so hadn't been hit.

A woman showed us around the building she had for rent, saying it was perfect for a group of survivors to lock themselves in and wait things out. It had a shower and kitchen, small bedrooms, and a garage. In the garage, the landlady demonstrated it even came with a working car for us to use, a rusty red Pontiac GTO with cracked paint. It really did work, as evidenced by the 'ding ding ding' chime when you opened the door. I wondered how it had survived the EMP.

The 'shower room' wasn't that well fitted, being more of a concrete room with a large boiler/power shower unit. There were large steps running the length of the room (not unlike a steam room) with a drain in the floor and a window. Remembering the advice from the Fallout manual about, er, Fallout, I immediately had a shower with lots of soap, and reminded my fellow survivors that anyone who'd been outside and exposed to the dust should as well to avoid radiation sickness. I was helping another survivor scrub her hair when an enormous freight train thundered past the window.

Riding on top of the boxcars were a ragtag US Army unit, dressed in a diverse collection of tatty uniforms. Some were dressed like War of 1812 soldiers, some like British Colonial troops, some like cossacks. For some reason we knew they'd object to our being in this building (they were supposed to shoot anyone who hadn't been evacuated or something, I wasn't sure). So we all tried to hide out of sight around the window. As the train passed, Marines in proper combat gear were now on the backs of the cars and they did see us and began firing. Several of the survivors were hit. We pressed tighter to the wall, trying to stay hidden until the train had passed.

At this point, I woke up.

Flis was showing off a slow cooker she'd bought in a charity shop. "I left a joint in for 8 hours and it was cooked to perfection - 2 degrees!".
"2 Degrees? Isn't that a bit cold?" She looked slightly puzzled. "Yeah maybe, it used 1,694 units of electricity as well, is that a lot?".
I suggested it was a demonic slow cooker and that's why someone had given it to the charity shop.

I would like to tell you what happened next but I woke up.

Weird.

Don't they eat everything raw on that backwards rock?

The adoption of fire has been growing on the Isle of Man, ever since 1967 when the Men from across the Great Water came in their White Iron Birds, bearing the gift of the Red Flower, along with other magics, such as their "Writing" and "Telephoning Machines" and "Soap".

Sorry Flis.

I really wish I could remember the dream I was having this morning, it was either awesome or awful, but extraordinarily vivid and compelling. So much so I kept carrying on between smashing the snooze button, then eventually just setting a new alarm for 9 and going back in for a couple more hours.

I had a horrible dream flash thus morning. I was in a shopping centre in India, and a man in a tiny red biplane was flying around waving a giant curved machete which he was killing and maiming people with. I was alone on a high dais as he swooped towards me and woke up just as he cut my head from my neck. The whole dream must have lasted five or ten seconds, but it was extraordinarily vivid.

I dreamt someone dried the toilet by spilling talcum powder in it; but it was okay, I just turned the tap on and washed it away, although I was worried about drying out the sewers.

On the bus today I nodded off listening to music, I must have heard a couple of Alice Cooper, because I had a dream that I was watching one of his concerts, only it was Myp doing it, and he started doing a whole of Gene Simmons stuff too!

Oh, and the "best" bit. During Myp singing Poison, the girl was a zombie and by the end of the song Myp was a zombie too, and he had "her poison running through his veins".

I was quite disturbed and woke up with a start!
