Hello. Sometimes people post their dreams in Bits & Bobs, but sometimes they are weird and interesting, so I thought we might collect some of them so that future generations that dig up this time capsule can wonder what the hell was going on in Dimrill's head.

I am starting this because I had a dream last night that repeated from the night before.

Sunday night I dreamed that I had witnessed a terrible crime (which I don't remember) and was being moved to a safe house, abroad somewhere. I was being driven in a small car by that Swedish actor Ola Rapace that plays Stefan in the Swedish series of Wallander. We had a police escort of about six cars but then three cars started chasing us, the police started shooting at us and the driver in my car took us through these big twisty mountain lanes, driving really dangerously and making the car leap a river at the end and almost killing us, but we made it and escaped.

So, last night I started dreaming that I was with this same guy again, but we were waiting by the car and an old man approached and said that he wanted to shoot the scenes again (it hadn't been a film we were shooting the first time I dreamt it) but he wanted to do a few things differently, but didn't want to say what they were for maximum emotional impact.

So, the whole thing happens again, but after we jump the river the car ends up driving into a streetlight-lit suburban cul-de-sac in teh middle o the night (it has been day up until now). Suddenly loads of bats start flying overhead - not small bats that will easily fit in the palm of your hand - these have wingspans of about 6 feet and their wings are thin like tissue paper and very tattered. On lands right in front of teh car and starts creeping around (I have thought about this and it moved exactly like the sour sherbet does in Viva Pinata, so that's where my mind conjured this movement from). Suddenly it is gone from view and I shout to make sure that the doors are locked. A vampire appears at the window behind me and my friend (absent until this moment) fails to lock it in time. The vampire reaches in and takes my handbag. It is my mustard original Mary Quant handbag with daisies on it. I am not having him take my handbag. I leap out and start fighting the vampire. He is much bigger and stronger than me but I snatch the bag, run for the car and he catches my ankle. I am struggling, crying, and I wake up.

It was so very frightening! i went to the bathroom and ran back to bed and then couldn't sleep all night long! :S

I had a dream the other night where Zaphod died. Very odd.

I had a dream one Saturday last year that was extremely weird:

In the dream a colleague was trying to show me something on his computer; he was extremely insistent that this was urgent and absolutely vital (it was to do with some functionality he had written that intermittently didn't work, but he'd found the solution), however I was drunk in the dream (having gone to bed drunk) and couldn’t concentrate on what he was saying/showing. Eventually, bored, I walked off leaving him to his explanations.

The following Monday I had a call from his wife to tell me he had passed away on the Saturday night. It took me two months to track down the bug afterwards.

I often have the same dream over and over again for a period of a few months. After about the 3rd or 4th version of the dream, I'm aware that I'm dreaming, and I know what's going to happen next, and I've said things (in the dream) like "This is a good bit coming up in a minute" much to the confusion of the other people in the dream. Then after that the dream changes so the things I "know" are about to happen, don't happen, and the happy ending with me saving the day turns into a shambles as I end up being tortured to death, or getting riddled with bullets or what ever.

It's really quite disconcerting when it changes like that.

I think my favourite (one off) dream was when I was about 15 or so, and I lived in a block of flats with an underground car park. One section of that underground section were cages for the residents to store stuff in (no lofts or sheds in a block of flats, so they kindly put these cages in).

Now, in my dream, these cages had been converted to a water tank where we had a collection of killer whales and dolphins. Now it was legal to keep marine mammals in my dream, but there was a high tax on doing so. And we were keeping them secretly, and it was the week of our Dolphin Tax Inspection, and the whole flats were really nervous that we would be discovered. We'd cunningly hidden the tank by placing a large tarpaulin over it, and were urging the dolphins and whales to keep quiet, however, they were really excited, and were clicking away like a Geiger counter next to a Victorian Luminous Watch! (I think I had just learnt that the Victorians used radioactive substances to make things glow in the dark). Any way, the inspectors came, and some how didn't spot or hear these dolphins, and we were in the clear, or so we thought!

That night they sent in a covert detection team, and as I couldn't sleep (yes in my dream I couldn't sleep) I noticed them from my window, so I decided to go and intercept them, they noticed me, and started firing at me with their sub machine guns. I ran up one flight of stairs, and they ran up another (the block was shaped like a lower case h with a staircase at the end of each line - so 3 in total - I was running up one of the lower legs, and they were running up the other, firing out of the windows towards me) We got to the our respective roofs and they started lobbing grenades at me, which I caught and threw back at them, and they exploded in mid air doing no damage (like they do in worms).

All this noise woke up the rest of the flats, and they started coming up both sets of stairs to see what was going on. We had them trapped, even though they were armed and we were not. A helicopter swooped in, and plucked them from the rooftop. I jumped for the ladder, and just about hung on. They were oblivious to me as they made their escape. They headed to their base (Battersea Power Station), and as they were coming into land I was spotted, so I had to jump off. I had two choices, a train crossing the river heading towards Victoria Train Station, or a barge on the Thames, I chose the train.

As it entered the station, I had to climb down off the roof, and negotiate the guards waiting to check the tickets, then I walked home, and got into bed, just as my alarm woke me up for real.

Yeah, I do a lot of lucid dreaming. I can often control what I'm doing and I'm aware I'm in a dream as well. For example if I'm hanging off a cliff, I think to myself if I let go then I'll wake up and it'll be over.

Recently I've been having a dream where my heart starts beating unnaturally fast, and there's nothing I can do to stop it.

It's not very nice.

When I was a child I used to have the same dream every night. Basically I would be on a space ship and would befriend this alien that looked like a blob of jelly. We would play and have fun, then we used to walk along this hallway and I would always fall down a slide at the same place every night and wake up when I got to the bottom :S

Oddly I have never had a 'man' dream. As right as I get to the good part I always wake up. Saved me a fortune in Daz though.

I don't dream very much now days, well, unless I take one of my super wonder pills. And then it's usually just random stuff, not bad or good just like, a day out somewhere.

I tend not to remember my dreams very often and some of the ones I have are quite 'common' - I've had numerous dreams in which all my teeth fall out for instance. I've occasionally had bouts of sleep paralysis too - not a particularly nice experience that.

A favourite dream that I remember very well happened several years ago whilst I was at University. I had a summer job at the time working in a warehouse, and in my dream I was at work and had been asked by my supervisor to shift a load of stock down to Building C. Well in real life, the place I worked at didn't have a Building C, just an A and a B. In the dream, Building C turned out to be down this long and winding dirt track in a forest and the trees did a good job of concealing it from the outside, despite being a massive building. As soon as I was inside I suddenly had this notion that I really shouldn't be there and if anyone caught me I'd be in very serious trouble. All the same, I decided to go inside and take a look, all the time making desperately sure none of the workers in there caught me and that I absolutely did not touch anything.

The warehouse turned out to be filled with row upon row of filing cabinets, with the ocasional glass case displaying an object of some kind, like in a museum. I soon realised that all the objects in these cases were things like toys I'd had when I was a kid and various other posessions of mine. Looking in the filing cabinets, I noticed that each one was stuffed full of files and each file outlined a day in my life, listing absolutely everything that had happened on that day. The whole warehouse was essentially dedicated to my memories and the workers were basically keeping everything organised and I was convinced that if I moved anything, I'd lose that memory and not be able to find it again, and if I was seen by any of the workers, they'd get distracted from their jobs and again I'd lose important memories. So I snuck out of the building again... and woke up.

over the years my dreams have become alarmingly consistent. Every night I return to my dream town, an amalgam of everywhere i've ever been. Dream town is always dark, always slightly sinister and unwelcoming and i'm always travelling somewhere. Usually i'm late, due to me missing whatever random piece of transport i'm using that night. Before i learned to drive there were a lot of anxeity dreams about being forced to drive and crashing horribly. I hate dreamtown, it's never fun, and i'm always lost.

Meyer officially stops even trying. More at ten.

I had one recently where I was sweeping the corner of Lansbury Drive and Uxbridge Road in Hayes. I wasn't being paid, or sponsored, or thanked. I just swept up a load of crap and spent ages looking for a green bin before waking up. My brain really doesn't like me very much.

GJ has recently told me she's had dreams where I've been in a car accident and where I've been arrested for murder.
I can't help but think she's trying to tell me something. :'(

I also jumped up in the middle of the night shouting. Cannot remember why.

I had a dream last night where Curio and I were in a pub in fancy dress and I kept telling really lame gags and we were in hysterics and the barman couldn't pour our drinks as he was laughing too much. To be fair, apart from the barman bit, the other bits could have been true.

I dreamt about the monsters from Blink last night and it was horrible. I dreamt I was fighting them and trying to escape some pseudo-military complex and then I tried to get into the wrong car.

I woke up with a bit of a shout.

The other night I had a very strange dream, my recollection of it is a bit hazy now, damn me for not writing this down earlier.

I was at work (in my dream, I wasn't sleeping at work and anyone who says I was is lying) and a couple of us had to go to this meeting at wimbledon (specifically the tennis complex) so we set off walking (all the way from Exeter) and arrived a few minutes later. We got there, and were told that they were some delays as a volcano had been discovered underneath centre court, and it was about to erupt. Everyone decided that we could work around this eruption and that it wasn't going to get in the way of this very important meeting.

It turned out there was going to be several important meetings, and it seemd to be each one was from a different section of my life, one was with former primary school friends, another with secondary school friends, uni, various jobs and so on. So the meetings were going ahead, and there was lots of hugging and reminiscing and stuff and then the volcano did indeed start to erupt, but the meetings were not to be cancelled, we just soldiered on, despite vents blasting out magma all around us.

There was one particular doorway, where you would normally expect a doormat to be was a pool of lava, which every now and again would fire burning rocks into the sky. You had to time it just right and step over it. The rooms were gradually breaking apart and smoke was filling the halls, and in the end we called it a day, and all went home. I know there were more details, but I can't remember them. Ah well...

Mr Dave was playing drums in my dream last night. I think it was on a warship. It's one of those annoying dreams that you forget as soon as you wake up though >:|

I dreamt I was in Seinfeld, except Roz from Frasier was there and I (Jerry) had to dress up like her (in a comedy unconvincing way) to get rid of someone we didn't like. They were to find me in the women's restroom, washing dishes in the sink (yes, I know). Everything went strange and I ended up trying to hide from Newman because he'd see through my disguise and blow the whole thing. I ended up in a bar behind the restaurant, having discarded my costume, trying to build up an alibi in case Newman accused me, that I'd been in there the whole time drinking Rickard's Red.

Last night I dreamt I had to drive a train on the Valleys, and due to the size of the gap between some of the very old platforms we had to stop at precise points so that gangplanks could be extended across. Things were further complicated by the presence of my parents, the other inexperienced person helping me (one of the real-life incident controllers who kept insisting it was her turn to drive) and the fact that, as in all dreams, everything works against you and I could never slow down quickly enough to stop in time.

last night i started classes at dreamtown university. I was enrolled in history course, but, naturally, i got lost on my way and ended up wandering through a huge museum, before ending up in a hideously complex maths lecture in which everyone, even the lecturer, reclined in beanbags, laughing at the simplicity of the problems

This thread just reminded me that I woke up in the middle of the night after one of those "I've got to try and remember all that" dreams.
Typically, I can't remember any of it, other than 2 of my teeth had fallen out at the end (although I don't think this was related to anything I'd done beforehand).

I dreamt last night that Barbados discovered a valuable new resource. Coal or something.

An evil South American dictator (I think he was from Guatemala) was trying to invade them to gain control of it, and captured a whole bunch of people (myself included) as he mistakenly believed we were high ranking Bajan officials. I was then interrogated in his plantation house until I managed to escape.

Things then went a bit Shadow Company and I controlled myself from a side perspective in a swimming pool upstairs in a posh hotel in Monte Carlo or something, where one of the dictator's hired goons (an NFL player) was staying. Apparently (said my earpiece) the fact that the NFL guy kept his shirt and pink socks on while swimming was very menacing. A fight ensued followed by us falling 50 stories out of the window. Yes.

At 3am last night I started making a really loud noise "like Zoidberg" according to my missus who woke me up and told me I was having a nightmare and I just said "I know, I'm scared" and then went straight back to sleep. No idea what I was dreaming about.

I dreamt my boss and I were having to fly to the US on business. I nearly missed the plane because I was playing Batman with a young girl called Maddy. Went to the plane and they wouldn't let Maddy on before it left because Barbara Stresiand was on board. Lots of passengers were appalled by this, so they left the plane and got their heads shaved by Shaolin monks in protest. So Maddy was let on board and was playing in the aisle, then it was time to leave, so I told the flight attendant lady to make sure that one of the ground crew saw Maddy home safely. Looking out the window, though, she was skipping down the road away from the plane on her own, obviously having convinced the airport workers that she could get home alone.

Anyway, I went to find my seat. My boss had booked business class on Kosovo Air, but the seats were no better than economy and my boss was taking up all three in our row, so I had to sit on the floor. Then the plane's engine (on the left) made a terrible noise and we fell out of the sky, recovered, then fell again and splashed down in water. My boss jumped out of the plane, started treading water, then realised the water wasn't very deep and we could walk instead. So I jumped out and splashed into water about an inch deep. I was pleased, because it meant my iPhone didn't suffer water damage. We walked around in the dark until we found a helicopter landing pad and realised we'd splashed down by a military base off the west coast of Ireland.

Also at some point I was in the cinema with my wife, watching a Shoalin kung fu flick starring The Proclaimers. We left early, but driving home the cat kept leaping out of the car, so I kept having to go find her. Not sure if this was before the plane crash or after or somehow at the same time.

And then I woke up, amazed I could remember the dream in such detail.

This is slightly alarming having now seen District 9 :'(

In other dream news, I last night dreamt I was watching (and was in) a Beex tv show. The only thing I remember is not being able to read any of the credits and trying to work out if myp was being played by a different actor 8)
I also remember walking around a huge garden with lots of bees and wasps, but this may not have been part of the beex show.

I dreamt that my dodgy right leg developed worrying blue and green bruises and I was trying to get to hospital.

Which is better than Kate's dream, in which I'd actually lost it and was now trying to get a prosthetic fitted.

Where can I see this film? And what possible reason could you have for leaving early??

Where can I see this film? And what possible reason could you have for leaving early??

It was fucking rubbish. There was this endless scene in a bar where more thugs kept coming in, but they all just sat down and chatted. After waiting for what seemed like hours for a fight to kick off we gave up and left.

Neat dream:

I dreamt last night that I was a scientist working at the Florida Keys for the military in a more advanced but stylistically similar alternate universe of the 1950’s. We were testing rockets to reach another planet, launched from underwater and all shaped like something out of a George Pal film. An appreciative crowd gathered to watch the rockets fly, one every two minutes sweeping out of the water and up into the sky, long flames trailing from the V2 shaped fuselages. Strange and unnatural swirling clouds of pastel colours formed above the launch site as rocket after rocket flew into space. I looked at the radar, and noticed that the rockets were simply disappearing shortly after leaving atmosphere. Concerned, I asked the authorities to call off the launches, but they didn’t seem to care, enthralled like the crowd beyond reason by the pretty multi-million dollar firework display.

I drove home in my Cadillac. Mother was visiting, all hysterical because she could no longer jaunt. Being unable to teleport the usual few hundred miles to see friends, she felt as if there was something seriously wrong with her body. I didn’t have the heart to tell her that around about now everyone on the planet would find they had lost that ability. The same product of the alien warning that they would quarentine the planet and suppress all forms of possible transport into outer space if we didn’t quite our violent ways. I told her about how the plumbing was on the fritz instead – this strangely enough drove her even more crazy.

I retired to my armchair with a martini. And then, infuriatingly, I woke up.

The only dreams I ever have are the 'things crawling around in the bed' or 'things coming out of the bed' type, which invariably leave me shouting in the corner of the room flailing around with a pillow.

The wife doesn't even notice any more.

You win, both for the bizarreness and excellent use of the word 'jaunt'.

My brain is apparently giving me a break from disturbing and confusing dreams to giving me merely terrifically dull ones. Last night, I had a vivid dream about editing wikipedia for at least half an hour.

I don't even edit wikipedia, for christ's sake.

I was having an extraordinarily detailed and naughty dream last night. For some reason (you bastard!) I woke up, remembered I'd left a loaf out cooling, and by the time I'd put that in the breadbin and gone back to sleep there was no chance of continuing the dream. Bah.

Oh yeah, on Saturday night I dreamt [A FAMOUS ACTRESS] had rude sex with a group of men in the middle of an American Football stadium at half-time and then released a hardback coffee-table art book commemorating the event, full of black and white photos and essays from respected high-brow writers.

I had a lovely dream last night. My reflections on it have made me feel slightly sad and teary, but the dream, itself was lovely.

I dreamt I was walking down alongside a beautiful canal in late summer afternoon sunshine, very golden and warm, still air. There were dragonflies flitting above the water to my right. I was looking for my grandad (who in real life passed away a few months ago and to whom I was very close, he raised me and was my role model for everything). I thought he was somewhere along this canal, further along, but I had been along this canal before and knew that I could only walk a certain way along it before I could go no further - it was like the edge of a game map - though I knew there was something beyond a certain point, I couldn't physically walk beyond it. I walked and walked along this beautiful stroll until I saw the point I knew that I could not go beyond. Just past there I could see the most gorgeous and huge thatched cottage. it was straight off of a tin of biscuits - huge front garden full of english roses and lavender. I'd see it before but never been able to reach it, but this time I could walk beyond the point where usually I was stopped.

I walked up the path of this huge cottage and there were some elderly people outside - all very healthy, all smiling, playing bowls. I went inside and it was beautifully cool. Inside there was an octagonal room (1) with dark wooden benches along each wall, with old gentlemen, all very dapper in blazers and boaters, walking sticks, etc. I asked if they had seen my grandad, they each said 'the very smart gentleman? Yes, he passed by this way.'

I carried on through several rooms before coming into a huge sunlit breakfast room, where my grandad was sitting at a table with a few other people, smiling, laughing, playing dominoes. He looked so happy, so healthy - he looked better than he had looked the last five or so years of his life - was clearly very sprightly. I knelt beside his chair and we hugged, and he told me he was happy, enjoyed where he was staying had made so many friends.

Anyway, I seemed to stay there for a while, talking, just assuring myself that I thought he was OK. I then said goodbye and felt happy and felt that I could return home feeling settled, and then woke up.

I don't believe in any afterlife, heaven, any place to go, but I like that my mind had conjured this comfort for me. It has made me miss him so much today, though. My eyes keep spontaneously filling with tears. :( It was a happy dream, though.

(1) It was one of the rooms in one of the Edinburgh galleries - I can't remember the name of the gallery but it has several octagonal rooms painted burgandy and dark teal - anyone who has been there will probably know where I am talking of.

Strange, strange dreams for me last night. Everything in here happened in the dream, which seemed to go on a very long time. It was staggeringly lucid and clear, and I can only present the first half here as it went on for so long a time. I've put it into story form rather than bare description to do it justice. It was one of those dreams that I think will lodge inside my brain for a while. I usually have rather splendid dreams, but this was something rather odder.

.........

I suppose I resembled young Steptoe most of all, only without the hapless, embarrassed agony etched on my face. A young Harry, who had got his breaks, carved out a nice little life for himself, independent and with small dreams. It was the early 1980’s and in this dream I was a petty criminal. Hauled up before court, I used what money I had to bribe my way into a more pleasant spell in a secure sanatorium for the mentally ill.

The outside looked like a red-brick crematorium, only with a spire instead of a chimney, but still housing the carefully tended lawns and that atmosphere of morbid perfection. Two guards led me through the heavy grilled iron door, and I was shown into a sizable ornate hall, with a black and white chequer floor and a large stove in the middle, resembling a well with its copper peaked roof and turning spit. In dead centre of each side of the room lay a set of stairs that led up to a balcony, running the entire four-sided length. A gleaming red railing ran along the copper railings, and door-less cubby holes marked the small tomb like rooms, one black slot in each gleaming white wall. It was as silent as a mausoleum.

I turned in surprise to my guards, who grinned back at me. “You didn’t specify much in the way of company, now, did you?” said one.
“Or as to the particulars of the institutional building?” asked another. They both looked uncomfortably like me, and enjoyed their small power. I decided to be chummy, and handed them the last of my money I’d smuggled in, a tenner and a five pound note. “The fiver’s for drinks. The tenner’s for some groceries I’d be obliged in you getting me; beer, deli food, that sort of thing.”
They pocketed the cash and grinned more warmly.

My room, like the others, had no door. The bed was a thin mattress on springs, on a wrought iron bed. The sheets were like thin, white funeral shroud. I decided to explore. In one corner there was a wooden door leading to the staff quarters, locked of course, and only opening to admit a dour, old Scottish woman dressed in Victorian house-servant garb. She brought in the meals, cursed me for my wicked ways and left. There were no doctors, wardens, seemingly no other inmates.

It was next morning. There was another inmate. She’d come in through the wooden door. She was thin and jaundiced, face careworn and her cascade of frizzy hair the colour of bright rusted iron. Despite the wear, I guess her age a little older than mine, at mid-thirties. She was nervous, and walked the cold tiled floor barefoot, wringing her hands, dressed in a simple black silk gown. Like everything about the place, she seemed to be straight out of Victorian England. I talked to her and it turned out that she had been sent there by her father. He’d feared she’d poisoned herself – her drawn features, yellow skin and unnatural shade of hair being the evidence, and that she was clearly addled in her wits. He wanted her someplace quiet, out of the way, out of his life. She’d been there for a long time, had forgotten the art of human contact.

In that place, time would cease to have meaning. There were no windows, a bell tolled the meaningless hours. When it was time for bed, the dour woman came in to clap her hands sharply. The lights, shining bright from a utilitarian chandelier, never dimmed. There was, however, a mystery. The first night with my new housemate, I awoke to find her asleep on the top balcony. I woke her and guided her back to her bed, unusually tucked out in the open on the ground floor next to the stove. The following night she was asleep another place, and again and again. Sometimes I was awoken by the sound of her crying out, sharp and sudden. When I found her, she’d be thrashing upon the floor as if from some terrible nightmare. I’d awake her, and she’d fall into a brief, listless state, with no memory of the night terrors, or of moving from her bed. Her father, a respectable looking fellow in a nice suit, bald and with a moustache, would visit in the day from time to time. He would share no words with me, and seemed to express little concern about his daughter’s condition.

I must have been there a month, and then one day I chanced to awaken earlier than usual, and I wandered from my cell. A thrill of fear jolted my heart; there she was, floating serenely across the floor and up the stairs to the balcony landing.

I suspect this is for Mimi's utterly beautiful and sad-happy dream rather than my weird one.

Your description of your dream rather touched me, Mimi. I'm glad to find that he's left this perfect memory for you. As Bill Waterson said about one of his Calvin and Hobbes strips addressing the loss of a family pet, 'we can always meet again in our dreams.' Thanks for that lovely post, I think there's something magical about dreams. Sometimes I wonder about them as some sort of miracle.

Anyway, off to vote you awesome now. :luv:

Well, I don't know how much of a part you play in the dreams that you have. Something in my brain made me dream that, but I don't know how much the dreams you have reflect your personality. I got a tiny bit upset writing it down, because I was recalling all of the details. I lay in bed an extra hour or so after woke up this morning, just remembering it over and over so that I could recall it later and remember as much of the feeling as I could. It's why I wrote it down here as well, because now I know it is here it won't disappear from my mind totally.

On the great dreams front, Rev Owen's wife dreamed about me last night, though she said the dream was very stressful - she was trying to stop me being put in jail, I was wearing a yellow wedding dress and was being bullied in the line-up of people that were being sent to jail - I was being pushed around by some mean girls she knew at school. I'm glad I made it into someone else's dreams - I like to know what I get up to when I am asleep and not in my own dreams. I like thinking that I can visit other people and have adventures :)

When I was young my cousin and I used to sleep with our heads touching, hoping that it meant we could share our dreams.

There are two mugs on a table by a back door at work. They've been there for a couple of days, not bothering anyone as they're out of the way, and I just assumed whoever left them there had a reason and would take care of it.

Last night, I dreamt that I was filling a sink and washing these mugs. They were really quite dirty.

It's getting so that I'll have to start watching paint dry to stay awake.
