DLC now available!

Looks like it should be alright for £5.49

I'll give it a go and report back.

Picked this up again after a while of dispirtingly getting my ass kicked. Man, Iron Man mode is tough. Anyway, just got Titan Armour, so yay! How much a step up do you guys find it? Also, just successfully besieged my first shot-down large UFO.

I would also like to add that I just did the Alien Base Assault mission last night. Two snipers, two assault, two support. A mix of run-and-gun and a double-tap from my star sniper made the day. However, the second sniper was a relative rookie chap from China called, I kid you not, Shin. Throughout the long hour of the assault Shin misses practically every shot and by the time we get up to the alien super-Sectoid he's just got one kill to his name.

Three of my men including Shin have arc throwers, we've just got to get close enough. The sectoid appears and my star sniper Ice takes an overwatch shot, knocking him down to three health. The sectoid then mind controls my best assault girl, Loco. My sniper Ice shoots a disabling shot at her rendering her relatively harmless. I sprint my three troops in, plus one for interference.

Shin is a mere two squares from the alien, like the others. Suddenly and for no reason, he begins to panic at the mind control of his team-mate. He screams, "GET ME OUT OF HERE!" and raises his sniper rifle and at close range on undoubtably a low percentage he shoots...

And kills the precious super-sectoid commander.

Love this game.

:DD

Bloody hell Pete, that would have been one for a reload for me, in fact, I'd have been saving every turn leading up to that situation.

Each to their own I guess, that sort of randomness would be just too annoying for me :D

I'm loving IronMan personally, and all the shrewd blows it delivers. First came shock, then horror, then mirth. It's all part of the story you're weaving as you play it, and I love that. Still not quite over my favourite sniper Shadow getting shot down from atop the truck she was standing on, but I've got a good replacement who's now my fave, and she has Double Tap, and man, that is one hell of a skill.

In losing the Sectoid Commander I don't get the psi bonus to research, but on the plus side I got to see the scientist lady scowl at me and stomp off in a hissy fit whilst the rest of the command base cheered and fist-bumped.

This is fun!

I have done a few missions. Only one dead soldier so far. I'm so sorry, Craster.

I'd be more sorry if you hadn't missed three shots to kill the bugger than killed you.

In other news, Grim... is a bad ass sniper.

This is so much fun!

Grim... is a sniper with the nickname 'Ice'
Bobby is an assault dude called 'Blitz'
I am a heavy named 'Disco'

Myp and APOD were my cannon fodder with stun thingies. APOD survived to be a (rubbish) sniper, and Myp became the second casualty, after missing a kill shot from two squares away. The spanner.

I love this game!

I'm a little bit annoyed that I lost a bomb mission because a soldier stopped when he spotted the bomb instead of continuing to the power node to disarm it. For instance.

Lost another man, but now 25 or so missions in and have only lost, I think, three or four people.

Poor Mr Dave, Craster and my old school friend Neil.

Me and Grim... are colonels.

Cleared an alien base, capturing the commander and losing nobody. I'm essentially playing normal difficulty and ironman, as I have not and will not load a save due to people dying. Not that I've had many people die.

My best soldier is Christian Benteke, a sniper who pretty much always has a 100% hit rate. Shame that the same can't be said about him in real life (he's an Aston Villa player). He's one of six or seven Colonels I have.

Everywhere is low on panic, but the USA fucked off in the first month, the pussies, and now there appears to be an enormous hurricane there. Might have to sort that shit out somehow.

Also, killed a Bezerker with a laser pistol on the base mission, for the lolz.

Finally got a second female soldier, so named her TFF.

On her first mission, she got mind controlled by an Ethereal and killed three Colonels (Me, Grim and Other Dave), and then also killed Gaywood via Overwatch after he got mind controlled. With just the Ethereal left to kill, she then missed for the first time from two squares away, and was subsequently killed.

First total team loss, first failed mission... entirely TFF's fault.

HOW DOES IT KNOW???

I'm playing the game on easy and I really suck at it. It's got to a stage where pretty much all hell is breaking loose and I don't really have the resources to deal with it. Losing a lot of men now. Part of the trouble is they don't seem to be able to hit anything...

I lost another full team. Down to my last two Colonels and one Major. All three are psychic though!

In desperate need of a good replacement sniper.

I find it harder to believe that Curio thought it was a good idea to give her a loaded weapon.

I was a bit pissed when she killed me too!

My last remaining Colonels are my wife, with the amusing nickname of 'Big Momma', 'Blitz' Bobbyaro and 'Moose' Dimrill.

I still feel sorry for Mister Russell, who killed the final Muton Elite and the Ethereal on a big mission, and then discovered that there was a sneaky Sectopod waiting for him next to the ship. RIP...

Finished!

Craster was the hero of the hour, as not only was he "the volunteer", but he killed off the alien bad guy with a double-critical double tap. I lost 7 soldiers in total, and killed 379. I'll take that ratio ;)

I can do the final mission now, but might wait until I have more than three healthy soldiers.

Col Bobbyaro is a beast though. Everyone else was pinned down or mind controlled. He was injured, but activated ghost mode, snuck up to the Ethereal, two shots with the alloy cannon, then ran off and killed the other two Muton Elite, before mind-zapping the last floater.

Bobby; you're a damned hero!

I had a failed mission last night which did have some amusement factor. Whilst slowly advancing forward, my largely under equipped team (due to my poor research tree usage etc), discovered about 10 mutons just over the edge of the cliff they were at. Mutons then slaughter everyone but a sniper at the very back of the field held off their advance toward her, taking down 6 of them. They eventually made it to her but still she managed to survive with just her laser pistol keeping them at bay. She escaped with her life.

My second of my two failed missions happened when I was attacking a massive ship that was empty until the last bit, where in one turn I encountered 14 Mutons/Elites and an Ethereal, and was swamped by sheer weight of numbers (well, I did kill them all, but only Mr Russell survived and then got taken out by a hidden Sectopod at the end).

Congrats to Trooper for breaking records of awful shooting.

He finally hit on his 14th shot. The lowest percentage he had to hit was 40. Most were around 50-60.

Impressive.

Finally got around to the final assault. Managed to do it without losing anyone, though it was close after my wife got mind controlled and started shooting Didier Drogba.

Big ups to said wife and to Bobby, for both being in my first set of recruits and surviving the entire game. Bobby just missed out on 100 alien kills, and somehow didn't die despite being my point man running straight at every enemy with a shotgun. Legend.

Holy shit! How much harder is this in Hard Mode?

Frikkin' Sectoids are decimating me. Most people get killed by one hit, and the bad guys have about an 80% chance of hitting whenever they shoot, even when you're sprinting or in hard cover. Leaving anyone out, even in cover, even against one alien, is pretty much 50/50 for them dying. Against two aliens, forget it.

Not to mention that most of the time you can't kill THEM with one shot.

Ouch.

Going to have to be WAY more careful. Literally can't let a single person not be in overwatch or within two squares of a comrade. And I'm gonna need a lot more medikits!

Wait until the Thin Men show up. They get a near enough 100% hit chance with their light plasma rifles thanks to the difficulty buffs, and their poison spit IS 100% hit chance.

My first mission with them I got lucky when rescuing the civilian, as every time they showed up I killed them straight away.

Only one soldier survive, mind, so not THAT lucky!

Plus, panic chains suck.

Announcement at PAX that its coming to iOS

http://m.joystiq.com/2013/03/23/xcom-enemy-unknown-iOS/

Quote:
XCOM: Enemy Unknown was just announced for iPad and iPhone during a PAX East panel.

"It is a straight port. We have not made any gameplay exceptions," XCOM: Enemy Unknown Lead Designer Jake Solomon told us. "You play the exact same game [as on PC or consoles], it's just now fully playable on an iPhone or an iPad."

Asked about the game's pricing, Solomon wouldn't give specifics, saying, "It's going to be priced appropriately for what it is. It's going to be a premium price point. It is the game. It is the full game."

In case you're looking for a definition of "premium" on iOS, expect to be more than $1 and probably push the limits like The Walking Dead does at $15.

The game should be out by summer. We've been told it will not include the Slingshot pack downloadable content, however the Elite Soldier DLC will be included. Meanwhile, the free Second Wave update has not yet been ruled out

Also, apparently there was a teaser trailer somewhere for something that might be a TERROR FROM THE DEEP game.

According to excellent and critically acclaimed price comparison website
http://www.finditcheapest.com
it's £20 from zavvi and the hut but only a couple of pounds more from Amazon, plus I have a fifteen pound amazon voucher. So I think I'll probably order this when I get home! Anyone played multiplayer on the 360 version? Any good?

Oh and on the subject of naming game characters, I haven't returned to the Sims 3 despite loving it because the Sims named after my girlfriend and I reached old age and I couldn't bear to have them die.
I love the stories you get to tell about a game though when you know the characters, like curios big momma wife and Bobby shotgun wielding antics :D

If you have a PC that will run it there were a number of offers on it recently but its gone back up again :-(
(there was an offer with Bioshock 1 / this / Bioshock infinite and a choice of other games for £24)

Your amazon voucher is probably your best bet but if you want it 'now' its £22 in Game

That's a good price for in-store in game,I wonder what price they're doing on preowned? I do want it now but I won't be able to play it til next week probably so I will exercise restraint.

It doesnt say on the website but i've seen it in store a few times and thought i dont need to buy *another* game right now :-)

They do have quite a reasonable sale on at the moment and are still giving an extra 25% on trade ins if you put it to a pre-oder (so take games in - trade them in for money on a card with 25% extra and a pre-order then go back in and cancel the pre-order and use the card to get X-com)

If its £22 new i'd be guessing at about £19 pre-owned which isnt that much of a saving.

I don't really need a new game either,I'm still half way through tomb raider, assassins creed brotherhood, and skyrockets off the top of my head. But this sounds so good...
