I've ordered myself a new Fantakkabostin monitor/TV for the watching and playing of stüffe in The Den. Now, I've got an A1200 and a Speccy to plug into the one RF socket on the back and I was a wonderin' in my own way about whether an RF-Scart cable exists. I've found plenty that do it the other way around via a quite considerable conversion unit, but I need RF-Scart not Scart-RF. :S The question is, is it possible and where to buy from? You lovely people.

Hmm, true. I had planned on splurging on a C64 too, y'see, so I'd still have the problem.

Hasn't Chinny got a composite cable for the C64?

I don't know. It's that moth in particular I'm trying to draw to this flame.

I'm sure he was boasting about being able to use his C64 on his new monitor.

Plug the speccy into the RF socket and the C64 into the S-Video socket if it has one (get the cable on ebay)

The A1200 should plug in on RGB Scart, or do you need an adaptor for that too, I forget...

That's what I need, basically. I'm now digging my 1200 out from under the pile of bills and bank statements to have a gander. I don't think I've ever used anything other than RF to connect it, y'see.

It has a boggo composite port that does colour, right next to the RF out. IIRC, all amigas have composite, but some only do mono

Does that carry sound then? The only eBay scrounging I can find is just video.

no, but there are stereo output as well aren't there? You can use scart or most composites have l-r audio in.

There you go. White and Red is audio, yellow is composite

The Amiga has RGB out so if you get the correct lead the picture will look stunning. Amiga retail sites sell custom leads or you can look on Ebay.

Composite will work and only requires a photo lead. The A1200 has a yellow connector on the back for this. But it will look a little naff.

You'll also need two phonos for the sound.

I missed the Speccy.

Which type of Speccy is it? Amstrad models have RGB out and you may be able to buy a lead or make one yourself. Sinclair models only have RF and will require fiddling with the board prior to the modulator to extract anything else. Although I did hear there is composite available on the expansion bus....

I've got an old "hard key" 48k+

I couldn't make the cable as I have no skill at all with copper or soldering irons :(

Read the instructions. It actually looks like a very easy mod.

Remember TV's will at somepoint drop the RF input. And what's worse is that modern TV's have real trouble trying to tune to 80's computers with cheap modulators. The whole reason I went composite for the C64 was because the big TV couldn't lock on to the signal.

If you post it here I'll solder it for you...

Nobody should have to endure modulated RF output in this day and age.

Couldn't you just buy a newer Spectrum off ebay for pennies?

You'll still need to wire a RGB lead. The Amstrad models have an odd 8 pin DIN style connector. There is no composite out.
