£3.8bn fine for Google, breaching EU antitrust rules.

Guess that means Pixels won't be getting any cheaper.

I got a Xiaomi note 5 on Saturday. It is very good, great battery. Set up was so easy, I just held it next to my old phone and it cloned it!

I found that modern Android makes that a case of pressing "restore" and waiting.

I took the opportunity to not put all the same crap on this phone, but it's more moving shit around, changing settings the way I like it, setting up the android wear watch again etc...

It's definitely better than it used to be as every app seemed to know me already, but you still have to open every app to give it permissions and the like.

Is there a way I can change the default volume controller? The one on the phone doesn't have separate media and ringtone(!) and the do not disturb doesn't work properly.

When you press the volume buttons, is there a drop down arrow? That should give you access to all volumes.

The oneplus 6 is lovely, having had it for a day now. I do have one issue though...

... how am I supposed to keep hold of it? It's remarkably slippy. I've had to order a screen protector for the back glass, to see if that gives me a bit more purchase.

I recently got a Koolnee K1. What a phone !. There are a few small issues with Android, but for the cash it was awesome.

Oh and I use a case, given the whole phone is glass. It's also rather large, so needs protection if you lob it in a rucksack for example.

The vinyl wrap/screen protector for the back of the phone was absolute shite. Might have been ok if phones were still flat surfaces, but all the curved edges and shit these days makes it feel shite in the hand when you hold it, as the vinyl doesn't sit very well on the corners and edges.

I've resorted to using the free clear plastic case that came with the phone, like some kind of gumbi-handed peasant. What's wrong with a textured back on a phone? Surely being able to hold onto a phone is a key design criteria?

In other news, the facial recognition unlock is voodoo. I turned it off on the Note 3, as it took bloody ages to respond. On this thing I spent a few minutes trying to work out why my phone didn't lock and what was broken, but realised the face unlock was working so fast, that it just seemed like the phone wasn't locked when I picked it up. I was impressed.

I'm off to go find a nice case to use, spend a load of money on it, then realise after I get it that the free case is the best after all, and switch back to that.

With the countdown to Hearthly complaining about the crappy handling of the IOM for google and that they are a 3rd world country - set to the timer above +10 minutes.

Many phones have this. My P20 Pro does.

Is it a bit too tinfoily to suggest that manufacturers actually have an interest in making phones a bit fragile and accident prone as well as pretty?

:this: It's easily the most annoying thing about the Moto G6 Plus. Almost makes me wish I'd just gone for the normal version instead of the Plus.

Does anyone know of an app that will let me put two pictures together to compare? Like what people use when they have lost weight.

Don't worry, that's not what it's for, no one needs to see that.

I could, but on some social media e.g. Instagram, you have to swipe through to see the difference and I want it to have an immediate impact even if people are scrolling past.

I already have a bath and covered pipes and tiles but the taps are shite, the bath is too small, and whoever did the silicone sealant stuff around the bath/shower was an idiot. :S

Get new taps, get a bigger bath and redo the sealant around the bath and shower.

I did something with Mrs Hearthly's contract renewal after all. Not even sure why, to be honest. New shinies innit.

Five fucking authenticators to migrate over.

I'll have a play about with it later on. (Currently I'm still using my S7.) It's pretty bastard big though and the camera sticks out of the back.

Probably full of Chinese hackers and spyware.

Also USB-C, no wireless charging, and no headphone jack.
