Trying to think of some of the worst covers. Amstrad Action had some weak ones when the money ran out. I guess that's kind of excusable though.

At least none of them say boldly on the front cover how many pages are in the magazine.

"Personal Computer World" used to be the size of a couple of house bricks*, and finding content used to be really tricky.

* I was very small when Dad used to bring them home from work, so this might be an exaggeration.

Another new issue of Retro Gamer in the post. That's it, I'm really making the effort to cancel my subscription now. Nothing worth reading in it at all. Crappest possible article topics too: PC games, 'the history of' platform games, the PlayStation 2. Really scraping the barrel in terms of content, then there's the issue it'd declining quality of presentation and so on. Feels like one of those 8-bit or 16-bit magazines at the end of their lives, running out of energy and possible content, but without having the creativity of say Amiga Power in its final year fill the gaps in an entertaining way. I won't be missing anything not reading RG, and TBH I've recycled the last several issues after a single brief reading anyway. (Last proper good issue was the one the Skool Daze cover, IMO.)

Brilliant idea! We should start our own retro magazine... We can call it "Retro Power" and write about Zelda one month and Sonic the next. Every quarter we could do a feature on Mario games and include the fact that he first appeared in Donkey Kong as Jumpman.

People will be all over that! They'll love it!

I actually loved those Edge collected editions they did a few years back. I want more. Were there only three?

yeah, they only did 3 Edge Files, the next two were a best games evar rubbish thing and a quite nice Videogame Arts doodad. Hasn't been an Edge special since. 2008 that were. Rubbish.

Whenever Dad's subscription copy of AF arrived, my brother and I would usually end up fighting over who would read it first. Usually, either the magazine or myself came off worst.
