Latest Retro Gamer has a brain-meltingly awful 'Collector's Guide' feature about the Amiga 500.

The collectors guide to the A500 should read "buy an A1200 and stick a Compact Flash card in it as a hard disk instead".

Specially when they wrote that a good goal for an Amiga 500 collector is to collect every Team 17 game. I'm with Amiga Power with this one, T17 isn't that good.

Alien Breed and Worms were their best games, I think.

Worms was bettered on the Amiga by the original to Tanks and Scorched Tanks. Granted they ported it every device known to man to the present day, and it had character to it, but it'll still just be a clone in my eyes. I loved Assassin. A more adventury Strider? Yes please!

The article says a must-have is Jim Power. It was awful. Truly awful.

Feh, Scorched tanks was just a clone of the much better scorched earth.

I remember enjoying the demo, but never completing it thetefore not buying the full game. Fortuituos, it seems as the full game appeared to be really samey and tedious.

Worms got nothing on scorched earth. I remember editing the text files on scorched earth so that the tanks would insult my friends that were playing with me while we were playing.

EDIT: I'm always mixing scorched tanks with scorched earth. I shouldn't, scorched earth was after all "the mother of all games".

I liked Alien Breed and Super Frog, but they're nowhere near the top of my favorite Amiga games.

Even though it's cool that the article mentioned Traps and Treasures. Such an underrated gem.

orched tanks was reasonable, if you didn't own a pc, but the weapon selection was significantly more boring and the tanks considerably less insulting.

I'm rather surprised that so many people actually knew what I was going on about when I mentioned scorched earth, thought it was a rather too obscure PC game before PC ownership was that common.

Pleased though. Memories of being wiped out by ones own Funky Bomb still cause me to chuckle.

Ahh, makes sense. For most of my time at school, games were forbidden. In my last couple of years, they were allowed during quiet periods of the year. Choice was somewhat limited though-Doom, Heretic, Quake, Duke3d (for a limited group of people). All child frindly.

And a few games I had made too. Which were awesome. And nominally more child friendly.

It was just he liked using Pillar's picture as it was easier..

(The fact that he's pictured in the chaos playoff as Nash is irrelevant)

And indeed, every YS photoshoot.

Meanwhile, over at Your Sinclair, Amiga Power, er what mag is this again, er AA, in the previous issue to the one above:

Attachment:
AmstradAction088-43.jpg

All rather odd as none of them are credited at all in the flannel panel at the back of the mag. I can only assume there was a gap between Adam Peters leaving and Simon Forrester starting that meant the YS team (who shared the same office) had to cover the games reviews duties. Meanwhile in the same issue, future editor Dave Golder also reviews an educational title. It's like a YS takeover!

If you don'y like Gradius on the PC Engine you have no soul. It is, perfection.

If you want something easier and cuter, try Parodius.

NB: Why are we talking about games in a thread about gaming magazines?

It's not a gaming magazine, but the BBC F1 season preview magazine had a feature on F1 games in it.

I don't suggest dropping £4.50 on a copy of F1 mag just to read it, but I'll scan it if anyone is interested.

Probably the first racing game I ever played. IIRC sold by the fuckton as well.

[edit] 568,013 copies sold making it Mastertronic's biggest selling title.
