Feel free to debate and comment but save any discussion about the merging of series for the flame war discussion we'll have once the full list is out in 5 days.

When we debate combinations, I'll be debating this one. Bizarre combination.

And spreading things out over five days? Can't we just have the list now?

But I don't want to complain too much, because you've done a good thing and I thank you.

You modern generation. Now! Now Now! How you'd have coped in the days of loading from tape I don't know. :attitude:

You might need to ask MYP about that combo as I'm not familiar with the games and it appears to have jumped into the top 50 when he was tidying up the provisional list and weeding out the mistakes (what with me not knowing any games post 1994 and all).

Hang on, we had to do them in order as well? Man, it's a good thing I didn't finish mine after all, it'd take forever.

Also, it's "UFO: Enemy Unknown", thx.

Who voted for WoW? It's about GAMES, numpties.

Naming we might need to keep an eye on because not everybody managed to vote using the correct names and again I don't have a clue about anything modern. MYP has done sterling work correcting the list but errors may still slip through so be kind!

I'm surprised X-Com was so far down the list. It often gets into the top ten in these kind of things.

That said, it only scraped into my Top Ten, and I was a big fan.

Good work, Chinster. Looking forwards to the rest of the list.

X-COM/UFO was one of the first I put down. It'd be in my top three for sure. In fact my top three or four were all early 90s, everything else was more recent. I ruled out Robotron as Grid Wars 2 was basically better.

Well.. I didn't vote for any of those games, and to be honest.. I'm not a massive fan of any of them apart from Shenmue.. This doesn't bode well!

The list does improve slightly. The problem is people will vote for their favourite games, regardless of if Horace Goes Skiing is the greatest game of all time or not. If people like Dull RPG 2009, they have this pesky habit of voting for it even if it is a pile of dross.

The reason the official YS chart was so good was because it didn't allow for pesky readers to interfere with it. The reason the YS readers chart was so good in the Big Final Issue [tm] was because it was obvious YS and the aforementioned chart had influenced their taste. Would Deathchase have even featured in the chart if (Linda - Ed) hadn't made it number 1 and then YS hadn't put it on the covertape? My bet would be it wouldn't have even made the top 100!

See the other thing is in that section you have games where only one person voted for it - i know because my favourite game is in there at number 49 , so that got 10 of my points

I assume Shenmue 2 was also one persons favorite (so its probably joint 49th) , the stuff down here can be swayed by just one persons votes it should get 'better' as you get closer to the top.

As for Hypersports , i loved it in the arcade , and have spent years played it , and perfecting parts of it

First time i saw it was a family holiday in Newquay where my favourite game at the time was Track & Field , and there were 2 machines in various arcades one with buttons and one with a joystick (i preferred the stick) , and on about the 2nd or 3rd day of the holiday it had changed to Hypersports and i stumbled through the first 2 events and got stuck there , but really got into it.

My local arcade got it in shortly afterwards (converting a missile command caberet machine into it - i kid you not)and i spent a great deal of time that summer mastering it - i liked being the person in the arcade who could do all the events and getting 'free' goes when someone was stuck ("can you do the archery for me")

Even when they bumped the difficulty levels right up i could still complete each event , then the dreaded 'stop after 1 time round' and i still continued to play it.

I of course played the speccy and C64 versions of it at the time - the C64 cassette version was on one of the compilations i got with my C64

Then the machines slowly started to vanish from the arcades , converted into other things and it would still be something I'd search out (there was a badly maintained one in one of the arcades in Blackpool pleasure beach that i still played each time i was there just to play it on a real machine).

I remember the very first emulated version of it which had not de-coded the graphics correctly and it ran in a window about 60 / 70 % speed and it was all just garbled blocks but the sound was there and i even went round the events on that - when MAME finally did it correctly again i spent so much time just playing this game

When i joined the retroleague it was my first choice and the first week I won an 'event', just for straight score my best :

http://www.scottmac.clara.co.uk/Season3.html

would slot in to the top 10 on Twin Galaxies at position 5

http://www.twingalaxies.com/index.aspx? ... 75&vi=7746

Despite all the other games I've played or voted for on here , Hypersports was my top choice because its *my* favorite game.

This is basically why I didn't enter, too. I could only think of about seven games that I thought were really the best, with four or five I know aren't good enough, but entertain me enough to tolerate their flaws.

*Ahem* :attitude:

Not one other vote for this? You should all be ashamed. I'll let you off if you've voted the first one into the top ten.

It's up to you to successfully build and maintain a farm while befriending the people of the town. In Harvest: Moon: Friends of Mineral Town, you can do anything from planting vegetables and raising different animals to marrying the woman of your dreams and starting a family. The game lets you choose which events, minigames, and adventures to complete. Through the Game Boy Advance link cable, you can connect this game with Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life to unlock new events and surprises.

I assume because of that...

A quick thing about tied games.

Shouldn't they all be given the highest ranking that one of the games was listed? ie:
Quote:

41. Osu! Tatake! Ouendan! - 11
41. Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town/It's a Wonderful Life [2] - 11
43. Championship Manager 01/02 - 10
43. Head Over Heels - 10
43. Landstalker - 10
43. XCOM: UFO Defense - 10
43. Samurai Warriors 2 Empires - 10
43. World Of Warcraft - 10
43. Hypersports - 10
43. Shenmue 2 - 10

Or is there a reason why some of them are higher up than others?

And if not, then shouldn't all the other games below that got 10 points be listed as well? (If there are any?)

Malc

I did. My criteria was simply this: which games have kept me entertained for the longest. WoW is also brilliant. It doesn't do anything new, but what it does do is practically perfect. Chock full of good writing, and clever quests that provoke emotional response. I was so angry at a certain NPC who reveals that he's been playing you for a patsy for practically the entire time you have been in the zone in which he resides. I had tears in my eyes when I saw what had happened to a small village of the harmless, childlike creatures, whose dying remnants hand you their precious shiny stones, because they think they've failed to please their local god, incapable of understanding what the enemy was.

Plus I knew it'd piss people off.

I almost voted for 'Braid' to annoy Perkies, but then knew that voting for CoD4 would do that anyway.

That's why they're joint 43rd, malc - they're all lumped together. From that you can surmise that things get more competitive up top.

Either someone's not realised that this is the same game as UFO: Enemy Unknown, or I was the only person to vote for this. Either way, something is VERY wrong.

Where games are tied, the game with the most individuals voting for it gets precedence. Beneath that the games are randomly listed. There are other games on 10 points but for simplicity they have been randomly eliminated.

This is why a Top 100 wouldn't have worked. You really need to be looking at games scoring 11 points or more as they are then starting to attract multiple votes.

Someone actually put down 'ouebden' as one of their choices. After some headscratching I came to the conclusion that they meant Osu! Tatake! Ouendan!, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

This is the kind of stuff that caused confusion. People getting names wrong or mis-spelling. I matched each game up by doing a search before it got added to the list but if the spellings were different there may well be cases a game could be listed twice.

Maybe we should have a second round of voting for the tie breakers. If you're going to post this list on the website it doesn't look good if there are games in the same position

By looking at the games with 10 points, i know i should have votes Albion as nr 1

Now that i checked the message i sent to chinny hill, i didn't even know there was an order. I just sent 10 games i happen to like. So Heroes of Might and Magic 3 ended up being first. No problem in that though

Its only one version, its just the 2001/2002 season. Quick check in my sent box confirms i didn't send in a vote when drunk so someone else must bum it aswell.

So far:

0 games I would've considered in my top 10, had I done one.
2 games I've played.
2 games I played and like.
3 games I would point blank refuse to play.
4 games I have no real interest in trying.
1 game I would be interested to try.

Also: because I could only think of 6 games I'd be happy to put there.

What if Churchill could only think of 6 reasons to invade France, eh?

Nice to see Head over Heels got in there, easily the best in the list so far. Everything else is a bit meh for me, except for Shemue 2 and WoW which are more obvious choices. Not that I like either of them.

Well, in that case

1. something
2. something
3. something
4. something
5. something
6. something
7. The game of "Put Zardoz in a cage with a randy horse"
8. The game of "Put Zardoz in a cage with a randy Dimrill"
9. The game of "Set Zardoz on fire"
10. The game of "Lock Zardoz in a box"

Sure, the latter 4 may not be computer games, but surely deserving anyway.

32. Legend Of Zelda: A Link to the Past - 13
33. Super Mario World - 13
34. Tekken 3 - 12
35. Rainbow Islands - 12
36. New Super Mario Bros - 12
37. Crackdown - 12
38. Gravity Power - 12
39. Perfect Dark - 12
40. Deus Ex - 12
