Yep, tried that a couple of times. I think the problem may only affect stuff which says "This package comes from an untrusted source", as I managed to get the etch-a-sketch thing on.

EDIT: Nope, that's not it, as I'm getting the same thing for non-untrusted stuff. I can only install stuff from the "featured" page, it seems.

Have we got a rough idea on battery life for the iPhone yet?

Wow, this app thing is a pain in the arse. A lovely program called "Installer" is present on the unlocked iphone, which connects to the interweb and provides a huge catalogue of native apps you can apparently download and install straight off. Except! After installing Tap Tap Revolution, every single attempt at other software gives "Error / Package download failed!". Fab!

Yep, this is the problem I've been having. More specifically with the PSX4all and the GBASPhone apps. Le sigh.

I did ask, considering that Grim...'s had one for nearly a bloody week now, but it seems that everyone is still too busy shaking out the few last beads of love for the thing.

It's enough for 3 episodes of The Wire. Or about 3 days on standby with occasional tinkering.

I dunno TBH, I just plug it into the charger thing every night.

If I pick up my iPhone from the charger in the morning, check it a few times during the day for the time/date, maybe reply to 2 or 3 SMS's, maybe make a call or two, maybe play some kind of game for 10 minutes or so - can I do that and it lasts until the end at least 1 day?

OK I HAS FIX

The problem seems to be that the URLs for the app sources are outdated. Go to Sources and delete the Conceited SOftware and Ste Packaging entries. Then go to Install / Sources / Community Sources - You should then have a list of sources that actually work.

No idea on the battery yet, I'm afraid.

I last put mine on charge on Sunday night, ready for Monday.

Since then, I've played about 30 minutes worth of music, made about 15 minutes of calls, sent about 20 SMS messages and just generally fiddled about with it for a few hours. The battery is about 80% full according to the indicator.

That's not so different from my own usage so I think you'd get at least 3 days out of it as well.

I hope you are happy with your iPhone :)

Well done you, I can't.
It keeps telling me I have no EDGE connection when I try to get the one photo, and it says I don't have any pictures to send if I try and send something.

Good advice EXCEPT I don't have a folder called Community Sources inside Sources. Just some beta stuff. :(

Arse. I know it may sound obvious, but have you put the ports at the end of the proxy and mmsc addresses?

This is tempting me now, as I am near phone renewal time.

That said, I already have an iPod, so it seems overkill.

I was going to Install -> Sources, but if I just use the Sources shortcut at the bottom then they're there!

Well, I buckled. Bought one, Flashed it, iLiberty+'d it, delivered it to t'other half and she's already rang me off it so I'm guessing the SIM swap went well. I'm waiting to take a long hard look at the 3G one before deciding between that at the current model.

I wrote my thesis on an iBook so I'm not new to this Apple game, although I don't own any working Apple kit at the moment. I'll certainly be getting the 3G one unless there is some glaring reason not to, like it's not hackable, or it costs ONE MOON + ONE STICK or something.

I think I'll stop short of getting a 2G and 3G one for myself though, that feels... excessive.

Did you have a look? I've worked out I can send MMS but not receive them. I just get a text telling me to check O2's website for it. :(

This is a network setting at O2's end, the new SIMs default to thinking you don't have a picture phone and hence turn all MMSs sent to you into an SMS instead. Ring O2 and tell them you have a picture phone so please stop doing this. I have the same thing on my SIMplicity account (which I must ring O2 about actually).

They won't just say "you have an iPhone, you can't do picture messages", then?

Don't tell them you have an iPhone, which will likely provoke some interesting questions from O2, say you have $PICTURE_PHONE_OF_YOUR_CHOICE. Duh :smug:

Now admittedly I have no idea how this SwirlyMMS software handles things once the MMS reaches your iPhone. For all I know this won't work. But I do know that the SMS you are seeing means the MMS in't being sent to your phone, and that's definitely the first problem to fix.

SwirlyMMS knows that Mrs Grim... has a picture message, as it has a little (1) on it's icon.
It won't let her see it, though.

Hmm, I found I had to set the image size to medium. Try sending a smaller image to it (smallest you can just for testing purposes).

I've done some digging, and it seems that you can only use SwirlyMMS to send, not receive... not sure how true that is as Grim...'s got a notification that he's received one.

Yeah. And it tells me that he only reason I can't look at it is because I'm not connected to Edge or whatever (which I am). Perhaps you can only use it to send because it doesn't work ;)

I'm not terribly surprised at this. It would have to do some pretty deep digging into the iPhone's innards to receive the MMSs, whereas sending is much easier to code.
