The bins are under some big trees, so yes probably straight outta the nest and plop onto the top of the bin. I'll take some pictures of the bins from further away so you can all get a better appreciation of their position.

Exciting* recycling bin drama!

I'd written my house number and street on the side of my recycling boxes just because when they're emptied, they're rarely put back in the right place and I didn't want someone thinking I was nicking theirs. Except recently, someone took mine instead. I figured they'd ask to swap it back once they realised they had mine, but nope. So I just grabbed another one that had been left in the street.

This morning I went to bring my emptied ones in and I saw next door had mine but they'd but a big '8' sticker over the 6, but you could still see my handwritten street name. Not overly subtle.

I'd take the bin back and slap the number 8 sticker AND a birds head on the shittest bin on the street.

At least they've stopped vacuuming at 7:30am every day (or I've learned to tune it out)

Get a permanent marker and scribble over part of the eight to turn it into a six. And then draw a birds head on it.

Or just draw massive cocks (penises, not cockerels) on all sides of the box. Ain't nobody gonna want that outside their house.

I put my bin out for our regular collection today. My neighbours did not. I suspect I am out of the loop.

I saw the bin lorry stop outside my house today. No bins were out and our regular day is Friday!

To try to prevent this kind of disgraceful behaviour in Manchester, our bins now come with proper printed vynil stickers with our street name and house number on them.

As a percentage, its a piss take increase, but it's £10 more for them to take my garden stuff away, the other choice is to buy small crap waste bags @£1 each

Wait, what? You pay for your bins to be emptied? Beyond what's in your rates or council tax or whatever you lot have, I mean.

I pay a tidy 52 per year. Yet I do so little gardening it probably gets collected 6 times a year. I don't know what my point is, other than, perhaps, that I'm an idiot.

Who hates compost.

It caused great upset when Bradford MDC started charging to cart garden waste away as it was seen as the more affluent suburbs funding the inner city and yet getting fewer services in return in comparison.

Yeah, Stroud district council does that too. Slightly irritating that it's not free, particularly as we're then giving them free compost as well.

And oxygen

£40 a year doesn't seem like much though, really, for the convenience of it. We have to go to the local civic amenity site to dump that stuff, it is less than 2 minutes away so it's not exactly a hardship.

When we took out hedges down, which were 3m high and over 2m wide, and about 25m long, the men at the amenity site said it was too much because we filled one of their big bins on our own. We hired a big-hook skip after that to finish off! Was much easier.

Yes, Cameron's government stopped council tax increases when they came into power, so the councils went looking for what they could charge extra for.

Prior to this I just had to buy the bin for a one-off £35 charge and they collected it.

There are all sorts of rules as to what you can put in as well, no bamboo and small branches etc. I always make sure I have grass cuttings to put on the top and just put whatever comes out of my garden in there.

You can't put bamboo in the bin because it's strong enough to stop the lorry from being able to compress properly.

God I hate bamboo.

Is it not because it's one of those problem plants that can spread everywhere so it can't be used for compost etc?

Old Ma Squirt was something to do with the local council's Japanese Knotweed Task Force. They had to get proper people in to excavate, cart the whole lot off and incinerate it. Must have cost a bomb.

Ivy can fuck right off.

I've filled three full bins with the stuff so far and not quite got half way through removing it all from my garage.

Trick with Ivy is to kill its roots. Chop it good wherever it touches the ground. Then let it die slowly. In pain.

I've got some industrial strength herbicide for the root(s). It's the sodding stuff that's climbed up and over the roof thats a bugger to get to.

Once it's dead and brown, it comes off much easier.
