What else is fresh in the world of bin collection these days?

I've been waking up with the words 'rhizome cowboy' singing in my head for a while now, or just popping into my head whilst I'm busy doing something. Now I know why!

They're using a firm of charted surveyors to send a letter re bins?!

They have a point around the car blocking, but the overflowing is a bit mean, my Council always take over flowing bins.

The week after Xmas they even take cardboard from presents etc if it's stacked against the bin.

My bin news is good so far, 1 collection of 95% bamboo removed without issue 2 weeks ago and another one on the street now, so looks like garden waste rules don't apply!

Wonder if I can get an arts grant for that instead.

Sorry to leave you all hanging!

Turns out it was the same day as the collection at my old house, Monday.

BUT! Folks here don't put their bins out the night before, they do it in the morning.

AND! Some people hardly ever fill their bins, so it's now like I have extra half bins! :metul:

Lots of local Facebook noise this week, the council have put the price of collecting brown bins (Garden Waste) from £40 to £50 a year

A 25% increase, its a bit of a long-running issue for people as 5 years ago you just bought the bin for £30 and they collected it

Author:  BikNorton [ Tue Jan 30, 2018 14:29 ]
Post subject:  Re: The Bin Thread

We've had our official notification that collections are going fortnightly; the original bumph said 'don't worry you'll get bins to contain smells and stop animals' with small print at the end '...unless you're identified as a location we can't get a bin van down.'

Ruh-roh.

Obviously our letter decides our lane in the countryside is one of those. The bags already get torn up on bin night as people leave them out for the early collection, so I can imagine that leaving things to collect and rot an extra week will improve that immensely.

Hilariously it also says we're only allowed to put up to 4 bags out every fortnight, which is a new restriction for some (but not us, as a reasonably careful couple) - there are some big houses and families (and/or wasteful sorts) round and about.

Post subject:  Re: The Bin Thread

Since separating out all of the soft plastic waste, our 'general waste' has dropped in volume dramatically. Come bin day, our red-bin is often less than half full; far more of a reduction than I was expecting. It's staggering actually how much waste is just soft plastic wrappers and packaging.

As a result, we can now elect to have a smaller bin, saving a bit on council rates :D

Also, the other morning there was a birds ripped-off head, just all casual like on top of me green (garden waste) bin:

Exciting* recycling bin drama!

I'd written my house number and street on the side of my recycling boxes just because when they're emptied, they're rarely put back in the right place and I didn't want someone thinking I was nicking theirs. Except recently, someone took mine instead. I figured they'd ask to swap it back once they realised they had mine, but nope. So I just grabbed another one that had been left in the street.

This morning I went to bring my emptied ones in and I saw next door had mine but they'd but a big '8' sticker over the 6, but you could still see my handwritten street name. Not overly subtle.

Get a permanent marker and scribble over part of the eight to turn it into a six. And then draw a birds head on it.

To try to prevent this kind of disgraceful behaviour in Manchester, our bins now come with proper printed vynil stickers with our street name and house number on them.

Bin outrage all over the local Facebook page for the last couple of months

The annual cost of a brown (garden waste) bin has risen from £40 to £50 a 20% increase

As a percentage, its a piss take increase, but it's £10 more for them to take my garden stuff away, the other choice is to buy small crap waste bags @£1 each

I just paid... for 2 bins I might add :p
