It is a very entertaining film, in large part due to the Magic of Dwayne. But of course they should have made something original instead.

Jumanji is amazing! The Rock is superb, Jack Black is perfect, Karen Gillan is the best she has ever been. Kevin Hart is Kevin Hart.

I watched Solo, I’m Han Solo.

And, for a change, I watched it on a decent cinema screen with 4K and the groovy sound stuff. Visually, it was spectacular throughout. I really enjoyed the spectacle and the visuals throughout. None of the CGI was ropey apart from one mafia boss at the start that looked like a sad penis.

Story wise, it’s a heist movie, only the heist is a bit crap and the obvious twist of “who is double crossing whom” get really daft at the end as there’s about 14 “Aha!” moments one after another. It’s a bit shit but it’s servicable for a big budget movie about space pirates.

The chap who plays Solo, I’m Han Solo, is probably the best bit of the film. He does a decent job of capturing an early Solo, I’m Han Solo, within the confines of the story. The mother of dragons is alright too. The romance between them holds the film together until the end and I thought they had some nice moments.

The rest of the cast get better treatment than, say, Rogue One and some of them have actual personalities but some just die off quickly without much fanfare. And surprise, fucking surprise, there’s a wacky robot character who provides the comic relief and is fucking irritating. Oh and a character who has four arms and is entirely CGI because that really works doesn’t it? No. No, it doesn’t. Well, not here.

Chewy on the other hand is brilliant. His introduction to Solo, I’m Han Solo, is great. Yeah, they overdo the usual schtick when he moans and Solo, I’m Han Solo, tells someone he said X and cue laughter or Solo, I’m Han Solo, says something and it’s implied Chewy said something hilarious. But regardless the camaraderie and chemistry between them is evident throughout and that’s what you Trekkie fans wanted wasn’t it? That and a bunch of call backs to previous films. You’ll get plenty of those. And we finally see how they did the Kelsell run in*snip* no, I couldn’t give a fuck.

And how Solo, I’m Han Solo, gets his full name can fuck off though. That was embarrassing.

Overall: a decent but wafer thin film just like the others. All visuals and little else but with a couple of decent performances and Solo, I’m Han Solo, and the Mother of Dragons were pretty good.

6/10

Just watched Solo. I thought it was great. Basically a heist/gangster film featuring our fav lovable Rogue.

The lead has the Solo swagger, and the furball is great.

Incidentally, I'm watching Twin Peaks The Return at the moment and I've watched the credits roll on every episode so far.

Yes, it's in part because you watch a band play the show out at the Road House. But it's also because you're expecting something demented to happen (nothing has yet*)

*In the credits, natch. The show itself has been relentless demented.

How far you in? It gets tremendously odd. Avoid all possible spoilers and don't binge watch it. Having to wait a week for each new episode, having absolutely no idea -like the rest of the Internet - was an amazing experience. The show is very much an acquired taste, but I haven't been able to leave off thinking about it since it aired. It felt so relevant to our times.

still waiting for Coop to come back properly, if he does at all.

It's been a fascinating show to watch. I enjoyed the feeling of being at sea at the beginning, very much feeling at the mercy of whatever lynch decided to do next, and not worrying too much about understanding what was happening.

However, I've found that the further we get in the series, the more I feel I should understand what's going on, yet I still feel I'm fumbling in the half light. And this is frustrating, as I don't know if that's down to me not paying close enough attention or the will of lynch.

I feel the series would change dramatically on a second viewing.

But I've definitely enjoyed it. Being asked if I've gotta light hasn't felt the same since.

We watched Annihilation last night. It looked FUCKING AMAZEBALLS in 4k HDR, I'll give it that. That was an interesting film that needs a vicious edit to make it bareable. Loooooong takes of people walking slooooooowly across the screen. Long pauses between dialogue. The most pretentiously drawn out confrontation. To sound a bit Hearthly for a second, it could do with being an hour shorter.

I'm starting to really dislike painfully serious films too. Humans tend to squeeze humour into desperate situations in real life, so why not in movies, eh?

Pacific Rim Uprising is a big bag of shit but I had to watch to the end.

Some terrible actors acting terrible, some good actors acting terribly, generic dialogue, generic soundtrack BUT FUCK ME giant robots beating on giant robots and giant monsters in downtown Tokyo was always going to be watchable. When giant monster picked up a robot man and swung him through a bunch of skyscrapers I was entertained. And there’s some reasonable CGI in here and, unlike, say, Transformers, you can always follow the action.

Also no one ever says that Tokyo was evacuated so it’s fun to play “how many tens of thousands just died in that scene”.

Turn off brain and enjoy for an hour or so.

They do say that everyone was in secure shelters.

I thought it was utter wank. The only saving grace was the Aliens reference (the special command the Always Sunny guy used to "hack in through the back door" was Lima Victor 426).
