It's going to be a little weird if Jake is cast as Batman though.

Watched the first 10 minutes of the new IT film last night, it covered the scene where Georgie meets Pennywise in the drain with his paper boat.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
The "new" Pennywise is even more creepy looking, he looks nicer than the 1990's one but you know that he is a evil bastard.

Then the whole arm getting bitten off is shown as is Georgie been pulled down the drain, as the same time this is going on an old women watches him playing from her house and sees the pool of blood on the road thats left behind. She just ignores it and goes back into her house.

So far looks to be good!

See, I don't like this.

The whole reason that Pennywise manifests as a clown for kids is because clowns are supposed to be funny looking and amusing, to make a kid laugh and to draw them in. Yes, they look creepy to adults (and some kids) but most kids love a good clown.

Whereas Pennywise in this IT is so obviously evil and creepy that it completely defeats the point of being a clown, he may as well just manifest as some sort of hell-demon or something.

Watched 'The Autopsy of Jane Doe' on Netflix last night. The description of it was deliberately vague.
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
I was hoping for some dark, murder mystery type thing where there was tiny CSI-type clues that unravelled the whole story. Turned out to be some supernatural bollocks instead.

A 1 on the Craster scale even from just within the Netflix app without even watching the film.

Rather enjoyed the Will Smith film, 'Bright' on Netflix, although it felt like a mix of End of Watch, Alien Nation and Warcraft. There are stormtrooper-levels of bad guy shooting though.

End of Watch is one of my very favourite films.

Bright was directed by David Ayer, who directed End of Watch.

I very much liked End Of Watch too, I will watch Bright soon.

Bright’s reviews have been incredibly bad. And the trailer looked bad. And I say this as someone who played Shadowrun for many years, so I’m down with urban fantasy.

There's also this about Bright

Edit: How am I supposed to link to a post? I mean the stuff I posted in that other thread.

The Guardian gave it 3/5, by all accounts they tried to cram too much into not enough running time.

Since it's on Netflix I'll give it a watch, I like Will Smith anyway.

That's what I did, but then the link seems to be broken when I post it into a url tag. It looks correct in preview but then looks broken in the actual post. Or is it just looked broken on my end?

I think it's Grim's auto-hashtagging thing getting in the way rather than anything you're doing wrong.

That was pretty much my reasoning too. It's not a classic by any means, but it's better than some stuff I've watched this year.

Yes this.

Watched it last night. Some good ideas in there.

A bit signposted towards the end.

From what I’ve read, the reviews seem to go from awful to decent romp. Apparently the original screenplay was meant to be good but hasn’t translated so well. But then there are a load of sexual assault allegations coming out about the writer anyway, so ugh.

I'd also say that the writer has a habit of saying that they didn't do his screenplay justice for two previous movies (American Ultra and Victor Frankenstein). Obviously a lot of this goes on with making movies, where the final work is only loosely based on the screenplay, but it's pretty telling that very few writers air this concern publicly before a movie comes out.

Closest other recent example I can think of is Fantastic Four where director Josh Trank disowned the movie a few days before release, and ironically Max Landis & Josh Trank both worked together on the somehow excellent Chronicle.

I've never written a screenplay, but I'd imagine a big part of the skill is to balance giving the studio what they want with telling an interesting story.

Reminds me of what Scorsese says. Studios can now do anything they want with modern technology, and the skill a good filmmaker needs is to navigate the studio system effectively enough to be able to tell a personal story.

All that’s true, though it was other people mentioning the screenplay quality, as Landis hasn’t posted on Twitter since he was outed as a sexual assaulting dipshit.

I'm about halfway through Bright. It's... okay. Some heavy handed race relations allegories, and largely carried by Mr Smith.

Are there spoilers in the review? I haven't watched the film yet either due to Hearthstone and fruit machine emulation.

I'd say light spoilers. They aren't going out of their way to spoil it or anything, but they do discuss certain scenes and plot details. Certainly didn't feel to me like it would lessened viewing the movie, it's more just an interesting discussion of different ways to handle themes in certain movies.

I enjoyed it lots but you're not wrong, it's incredibly heavy-handed with the race message.

Dr Zoidberg should show it to Helen's sister's step-mum.
