Shame. Incidentally, we had a female singer in this band and she was all kinds of awesome in both looks and vocal ability.

The only problem was that she was extremely nervous about singing on stage and spent a lot of time before performing, throwing up.

She didn’t last long as our singer.

Family film was "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" last night.

So boring! Shame as the creature bits are cool. Still got another 45 mins of it to watch tonight.

The other family film we watched was 'Moana'. That was excellent.

Yeah Moana is pretty great, Josie's bought the boat and everything.

We watched Logan the other night.
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
I thought it was good but even though I could see that some bits were meant to be so, so sad and I'm normally a sucker for that I was left feeling totally unmoved by it all for some reason.

I'll almost certainly end up going to see it just because I've got an unlimited card, but I'm not really that fussed about Guardians Vol. 2 - the first one was watchable enough I guess, but just like most Marvel films I can't remember a fucking thing about it because they're all so fucking samey.

I watched three films:

Berserk: The Golden Age Arc 1 to 3.

It was reet violent and excellently animated for the most part. Within 5 minutes some guy's eyeball popped out following a sword through the brain and I was happy.

It got a bit Urocksockydojo (that Legend of the Overfean Manga with the tentacle sex) in the third one though and I had to close my curtains to watch the end for fear that one of my neighbours might look through the window when they're walking past.

Violent out of ten.

So, Grim...'s favourite movie is on Netflix, as it happens. I quite enjoyed it, but it's no classic. Nothing of any consequence happens in the whole movie. Aside from a few shifted relationship dynamics, everyone comes out of the movie the same way they went in.

Also, Eric Stoltz is disturbingly softly spoken throughout. Like Michael Jackson with Ross Gellar's inflection. Weird.

Duncan was funny, though.

Shifted relationship dynamics are basically the whole point of the film. Amanda gets out of a toxic relationship, Keith gets a load more confident, tells his dad to stop trying to live through him, and, of course, he and Watts end up together.

A good Day to Die Hard - so shit and uncompelling I spent the duration of the film pissing about on my phone. All I really took from it was: Blah blah something about McClane's son, shoot some pesky ruskies then let's go to, for some reason,.... *DUN DUN DUN*... Chernobyl. Also, Jai Courtney is not a good screen presence. Really shit.

End of days: I love a good Arnie film, but this isn't one. I hadn't got round to watching this (same for Eraser...I think), but it was on telly the other week. It seemed pretty dim witted plot wise: oh noes, Satan has returned. Luckily Arnie is inexplicably tough and able to survive long enough SHOOT TER DEVL WITH DER GUNS, and then when the devil doesn't die, MOAR GUNz. The actor playing the baddie was quite charismatic though. Normally Arnie's woodenness doesn't bother me much, but this was some dull stuff, it seemed very low-rent.

This post confused me as I saw Passengers recently too. However, there's another Passengers from 2008 which is on Netflix and is terrible. All the way through, most of the characters behave strangely and you're not sure whether it's terrible acting or part of the plot.

I watched 'THE GUARD' last night which I've been meaning to watch for ages but never quite got around to it, even though it's by the same guy as who did the superb Calvary and also stars Brendan Gleeson.

Anyway it's fantastic, hard to say if it's 'better' than Calvary or not but it's certainly as well made and fascinating.

Just don't be put off by the awful marketing materials and posters (which subconsciously is what was happening to me with putting off watching it for so long, I think), which make it look like some sort of wacky mismatched slapstick buddy police comedy.

I'll go 907/1000 for this one.

I thought it was surprisingly 'pretty good', in fact a quick search reveals I gave it 8/10 - viewtopic.php?p=845772#p845772

I think the trick is not to think of it as a 'Robocop' film or a remake or anything else, and let it stand on its own.

Went to see GotG2 last night. Terrible.

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Chris Pratt basically doesn't do anything for the entire film except make the odd wisecrack and look dumbstruck.
Gamora has a couple of decent scenes but nothing amazing.
Drax is basically the second best part of the film, he gets more decent lines than anyone.
Rocket is good enough, but is the cause of some of the worst parts of the film happening.
Groot - may as well not be in the movie.

The Sovereign sideplot is utterly pointless, you could remove that entirely and it wouldn't change anything about the movie.
The Ego plot is good, up to the point that he threatens the whole universe and they have to stop it - I've raised this complaint about Marvel movies before, why do they always have to have cataclysmic consequences, just focus on a small, personal plot.

I wasn't hugely keen on the first movie, but this one basically just seemed to be an excuse to get the VFX guys working overtime. Plot hangs on by a thread, barely any acting on display (Karen Gillan as Nebula is probably the highlight, acting wise) but OOH LOOK PRETTY CGI.

Yawn.

GotG 2. Liked it, enjoyed it, didn't love it. Not bad. They just about get away with having Stallone in it, even, at least till his very final scene. Having tears come out of the middle of Pratt's eyes is really weird - right there, on a huge screen, you've got tears down the middle of your eye. Do the tear-making drops not work on the corners of his eyes? Looks bizarre.

Not the most important thing about it, but I don't understand how they can leave something so odd in a huge film like that, when they are doing a close up on his face. Otherwise, though, it made me laugh. Pretty sure I was in an audience of imbeciles, who responded like automata every time their buttons were pushed - cute animals on screen, quick, go 'ahhh!', but even that wasn't completely annoying.

I really enjoyed GotG2. Taken overall I'm not sure I would say it was better than the first film because there's something about the over-arching Ego plot that was annoying me but it sure was entertaining and without a doubt one of the funniest films I've ever seen; proper laugh out loud stuff all the way through.

I finally got round to seeing the first Guardians of the Galaxy film (last week).

Nothing new to add, most people know it already I'm sure - but it was a really good film, thoroughly enjoyable.

Batista was surprisingly....capable. Although the majority of the time I see wrestlers in out-of-the-ring fights, it just seems jarring. I'm not quite sure I can really put my finger on why, but it might be something to do with the way they move.

Yeah, we laughed our way through it too. I wasn't as keen on the soundtrack this time though, probably because I only knew a couple of songs from it.

I loved baby Groot too, particularly how he went through his age stages. :D

I think Dead was one of my favorites in this one though.

Five scenes at the end for those that haven't seen it yet.
