I misliked Juno due to wotsisgob, plus pregnant teenage girls are my dayjob.

Super, for the uninformed, is a sort of indie Kick Ass starring some guy as some guy who is married to Liv tyler because she's a recovering everything addict. That's different. It's considered one of the more average Pixar animations, isn't it?

The first 45 minutes or so form one of the most touching silent love stories in the history of cinema. It's worth it just for that.

Ratatouille is the best.

Though Wall-E to be sure improves a little on subsequent viewings.

I thought it was considered above average.

Here's the order of awesomeness of their first ten movies:

Predators!
More than one Predator.
Surprisingly not rubbish, I enjoyed the new setting and plot, especially the spaceship nonsense. All thoroughly predictable and lost a little suspense due to that but certainly worth a watch.

Chronicles of Riddick. Seriously, what a yawn-fest. Obviously not my thing at all this, I know it's a sequel but it all seemed a meaningless and immediately forgettable

Up: Good. Loved the talking dog minions. Would watch again..

It's a very good film, but at 115 minutes, a bit long, although I'm not a fan of long films generally.

Picked up some more cheap films today -
Firewall (seen before, but enjoyed)
Adventures of Baron Munchausen (which I love, but doesn't seem too popular with others)
Mercury Rising (not seen it, but I like Bruce Willis films)
Skyline (purely bought because it was £2, which seemed cheap for a recent film)

All for £6. I do rather like Cash Converters. :)

I watched Christmas in Connecticut yesterday. While it isn't massively christmassy, it's a brilliant screwball comedy. Barbara Stanwyck is gorgeous and brilliant in it as she always is. It's the tale of a woman who writes articles for a magazine about being a perfect housewife and her editor has the idea that a war hero should go and stop with her and her husband on her farm over christmas. Oh and he decides to join as well. Except she's not married and doesn't live on a farm and doesn't know how to cook or anything. Fortunately a guy who had been asking her to marry him for a long time steps and gets her to agree to marry him and conveniently he has a farm. They plan to marry on arrival there but things keep getting in the way and of course she happens to fall for the war hero...

Superb laugh out loud funny stuff and decidedly farcical. Loved it.

Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol - A thoroughly enjoyable and well put together action film with some inventive action sequences. Good cast, nice glamorous locations, good script. I even forgot Tom Cruise was a horrible egotistical scientologist idiot sometimes...

Though it really is a vehicle for how awesome Tom Cruise is (in his head)

Yep, watched this a couple of days ago. Very impressive low-budget Brit-flick & quite unique.

Also, thoroughly enjoyed "Another Earth" (someone else mentioned it above).
I knew it was a dark drama going in (rather than an actual sci-fi film - I can imagine many sci-fi fans being very dissapointed with it) & thought it was great.
Top quality acting too from actors I've never heard of.

Also watched Zombieland again, which is still excellent.

It was written by Tina Fey, so it's probably good. The wife likes it, though, so it may be awful.

I wasn't expecting much of Kung Fu Panda and Monsters Vs Aliens when I watched them with the kids but I was pleasantly surprised. Much better than some of the other Dreamworks stuff I'd seen.

Kung Fu Panda is awesome.

Apparently, the Chinese Culture Secretary after watching it, asked his staff "Why can't we make movies about China that are this good?"

The scene where Tai Lung escapes from prison is one of my favourite scenes in any movie, ever.

They are both good, but Easy A is much better. Also: Emma Stone is much better than Lindsey Lohan.

I'd recommend Jawbreaker if you can access it.

Emma Stone is in a different league altogether to Lohan. I didn't like Mean Girls at all, I only watched it for the first time a year or so ago and found it incredibly dull.

Isn't that the Two Ronnies Quadrilogy?

Went to see Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows last night.

It was good, enjoyable and quite funny at times, but I did feel that the film vastly over-used the "bullet-time" effect. It made sense during the scenes were Holmes is running through what's about to happen in his head, but elsewhere it just seemed to be pointless.

Also, a plot hole:
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
When Moriarty blows up the meeting room at the Hotel du Triomphe to hide the assassination of the arms magnate, it's said that no-one looks for a bullet-hole in an explosion. Fair enough, but wouldn't the bodies be examined at autopsy and thus end up revealing the assassination? Or was that kind of thing not common back in the 1890s?

Yes, it helps that both of the lead females are rather easy on the eyes (Lea Thompson especially).

I've been puzzling over this 'chick flick' misnomer.

When I think 'chick flck', I think Sleepless in Seattle or When Harry Met Sally. Or Ghost. *shudder*

Teen films are a different kettle of fish, though there is some overlap. Like Twilight or whatever. But they're different things.

Well, they can be both. Pretty in Pink is a chick click and a teen movie. Some Kind of Wonderful isn't really a chick flick (Duncan is far too awesome to be a chick flick character) but the story is straight out of one.
Er, that makes sense in my head.
