Amazing effects for the money, and I didn't even really think about them. I was just immersed. And with there being two Sam Rockwells, my brain even quickly started thinking that there were two of them, in that room, that it was all real and not some cheesy split screen. Rockwell is a god.

Soundtrack was great too. And the sets.

Just watched Black Book with my daughter. Very good. Paul Verhoeven back in Holland directing a WWII movie about the resistance and the complex scenarios that arise during war and human conflict. I recommend it a lot.

Has anyone seen The 25th Hour, a Spike Lee film from 2002 starring Edward Norton, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Brian Cox? I acquired it recently, having been entirely ignorant of it previously. I thought it was brilliant, despite some superfluous stuff involving drug-dealing and the Russian mob. The characterisation and acting were fantastic.

"Decent films you've never heard of" - Part 1 :

I watched a new-release film called "The Killing Room" yesterday and thought it was a bit of a minor gem.

Low budget, straight to dvd thriller that's actually rather decent IMO (and has a few decent actors including Timothy Hutton, Chloë Sevigny & Peter Stromare).

Won't go into plot details (it's more interesting to watch if you don't know much about the story), so google it if you want more info.

Oh, and it's only available via...ahem...dubious means at the moment (it's not officially released yet).

It's not going to win awards or anything but it kept me interested/entertained through-out.

Indy 4 is nowhere near as bad as I'd been led to believe. Unless we're talking about what I'd be led to believe by The Rev Owen, in which case it's nowhere near as good as I'd been led to believe.

Evil Dead 2 is still awesome.

It is the worst of the Indy films by a massive margin.

The first three are only pretty good anyway.

You're all so wrong it makes my head hurt. Indy 4 is exactly the same quality as 1-3. Exactly. It's brilliantly updated to pastiche the movies and concerns of the fifties in the same way the original films did the thirties, while staying with the same themes of adventure, action, comedy and fringe archaelogy.

Whilst I kinda agree with the above, I dont think there was any need for the amount of shit CGI that really sunk Indy 4 below the overall quality of the first 3.

That's a bit strong. It's better than any of the other long-delayed sequels (Die Hard Four Point Less or The Phantom Mess etc.), had some nice moments (fencing on the backs of the moving cars) and was perfectly acceptable popcorn rubbish, but it felt baggy and overlong and generally lacking in sparkle. I liked it well enough, but have no desire to ever see it again, which I couldn't say about any of the other Indy films (even Temple Of Doom).

Really? I thought DH4 was actually pretty good, even on its own merits - it was a very entertaining action film, with no messing about. Mrs C actually prefers Jurassic Park 3 over 2 for this reason. She likes her action films undiluted with any thinking, and, preferably, much in the way of talking.

The bit on the moving cars was actually a bit poor - the blue/green screening was shockingly obvious. Overall it was enjoyable silliness though, and while I agree with you to an extent, I've rewatched it twice and will do so again - it has enough good stuff in there to merit that. I just tend to stop when they get to the templey thing at the end.

I loved Die Hard 4! It was the first blu-ray I watched and I thought it marvellous. I got excited every time there was a crash/explosion/fight and literally giggled and sat on the edge of my seat the whole way through!
To be fair, I do have a charming ability to get as excitable as an 8 year old at very little.
