For you: Well obviously.
For anyone else who hadn't seen Shutter Island: Obviously not.

It's not difficult to understand.

Yeah but banging on about nine minutes is silly when it could have been an hour later I read it. Would you be then going 'ONE HOUR IT WAS JUST ONE HOUR'

You goon. :)

Christ. The longer something is unspoilered the greater the chance that people, other than yourself, will see it. The post was in the late evening and not many folks were on. It's telling that people didn't start posting about it until this morning so it's doubtful that many people didn't see my original post with the spoiler warning. If it was left unspoilered for a longer period of time then it's more likely that I've just ruined a great film for people in your position but since I added a warning shortly after your moan it's less likely that anyone else was affected.

And I'm assuming that you might even want to watch Shutter Island and you're not just whinging on behalf of other people who may have seen an unspoilered post.

You're entirely missing the point. Anyway, let's just drop it. You seem to be getting more het up by the reaction to it than I was in the first place.

And it absolutely sounds like a film I'd enjoy - I didn't know much about it which is why I started to read your post... and then regretted it, obviously.

FWIW I still can't see a spoiler tag on the post, but I just skipped past it when I saw the warning.

You do know it's still unspoilered?

To those that say "just stop reading" it's not always that easy, your eyes often scan ahead and pick up stuff. I think it's just plain inconsiderate to not put spoilers in spoiler tags.

Hmm. Shutter Island is Scorsese's biggest grossing film.

Although I managed to skip past it, I do agree. It takes seconds to put a spoiler tag on something. :)

Spoiler tags are actually mentioned in the rules.

In Beex tradition, the mention has nothing to do with actual spoilers.

This is, of course, as much a problem with this goddamn thread as it is with spoiler tags.

Exactly. I avoid specific threads mentioning games, films, tv that I haven't seen yet. It's impossible with the generic media threads.

I firmly believe that for say something released in the last few months, if there's not a thread, you should start a thread. This thread should only be for mentions of older stuff where you don't really expect an in-depth discussion.

It's rude and inconsiderate* spoiling stuff that someone else hasn't seen when there's a simple facility there to protect the rest of us that haven't seen it.

Having said that my OCD means I even get annoyed when someone says "Look out for the twist" because then I am just looking out for that rather than just enjoying the film as the director / writer intended it. I avoid trailers these days because of the amount of plot shoveled into 30 seconds of supposed "tease".

*possibly warranting the death penalty.

Ok, enough now. Sat is a great guy and a good friend and I was slightly pissed off last night about it, but I don't care anymore. It's not worth falling out or sharpening the pitchforks over.

:DD I was thinking a couple of hours ago, "gee, Beex is doing the Internet 'right' this morning..."

I know it's not the point, but Shutter Island isn't even that good. It's just a big budget B movie with a plot that was lifted directly from The Twilight Zone.

I haven't seen Shutter Island but for what it's worth, I stopped reading when I got the hint that Sats post would contain a spoiler.

Doesn't change anything but yeah, I agree with Myp. Let's move on.

If I had bothered to turn my PC on today I'd have put a sodding spoiler on but its already been done. Last night I was on the phone so I didn't, OK. I said so up there. It's not like I haven't used the facility before.

I didn't even want to talk about any twist of the pros and cons of using a bloody spoiler tag, I just wanted to talk about Di Caprio's performance.

Oh fuck this shit, I'm flouncing. But first I'm going to tell you I'm flouncing before flouncing. By announcing it on Twitter.

Clarification of social mores helps avoid getting into undesirable situations unexpectedly. Preparation and care are important. You bellend.

For the record I was never angry at anyone, I was only intending to discuss best practices for spoilers.

I really enjoy this thread and everyone's different contributions. I don't always remember to say, but I find some great recommendations for movies here, and everyone brings something interesting to the table.

Balls. If you act superior enough then the rogues fall into line. Appeasement like this is how we lost an empire.

Rogue one trailer is great for three reasons

1) All the twats pissing and whining about it being female led and that the entire franchise has gone to the SJW dogs.

2) The interior of the Death Star is Canary Wharf underground station which is a totally legitimate representation

3) Promising the boy a new Star Wars video to watch made him get ready for bed in record time.
