Obviously about this episode. Bamba was deliberately vague about it, then you stomped in and spoiled it for everyone else. Worse than Garage, you are.

I saw elsewhere what can only have been a total guess about Lorca pretty much as soon as he appeared on screen, that we now know to be correct.

I still dislike to opening theme music, and the design of the Discovery (especially the spinnging ring and silly flip move it does before jumping).

But it's a great show. Saru's makeup is excellent.

Anyway, SPOILERS FOR THE MOST RECENT EPISODE:

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Cor blimey! So Lorca was a nasty piece of work. The way he killed Stammets was fucking hilarious though.

The one thing I didn’t really get into was Burnham’s attachment to Philippa. I mean, I know the original version was her mentor and all, but the Mirror universe one is literally worse than Hitler and has been the leader of a galaxy-wide mission of genocide and enslavement. Yet she’s all buddy buddy now? That’s some weird loyalty.

Anyway, lots of fun! Pew pew!

And oopsies at the ending.

2 more episodes to go to wrap it all up (or deposit them in a different universe).

Cracking stuff.

Something I am very much enjoying is: for all of the apparent predestination inherent in a show set ten years before TOS, I have no idea at all where this is going.

I like this a lot. However, I still get really pissed off that the federation ships are really very shit at fighting other ships in space. Like terrible.

And if, as stated often, they're intended to be science and exploration vessels, then maybe also have a navy, and hand over to them when war and shit happens.

I've been wondering all series about how it has abandoned the positivity and utopian idealism of trek (much like real life am i rite!>!>?!?) but was secretly hopeful that they were trying to 'earn' that positivity, to reintroduce it viewers.

But man that Saru speech to the bridge crew, that was proper old school positivity. Loved it.

My prediction:

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
In despair of losing they fall to dark side and the remnants of Star fleet start using M.Phillipa to defeat the Klingons much to Saru's disagreement (because Saru represents all that is good and proper). It begins to works BUT AT WHAT COST?

Then Clem Fandango starts to show that he has overcome the weirdness of his creation and actually klingons aren't all bad. This makes them see the error of their ways and embrace full TREK UTOPIA. Saru REFUSES to accept ANY costs. TEAMWORK happens. M.Phillipa exposed to GOODNESS but aint having none of it.

Eventually they jump back in time to the start of the series to undo what first went wrong. Some plan involving Voq (Yes, I can hear you) and that. It GOES WRONG.

But wait M.Phillipa see's good in the world. Proves we can change and Han Solo's it, switching places with P.Phillipa in a NOBEL sacrifice.

Michael prevents war/reduces it to a skirmish and is never a criminal. RESET button pressed.

Then twist ending they jump to the future. Double plus if they meet an old picard.

Maybe they'll finally explain what happened to the Klingon genome! Ref Trials and Tribbalations.

Perhaps its related to the massive touchscreens and muted colours being replaced by clunky switches and reds and golds.

One of these days they need to remake TOS to avoid the dissonance. But then they'll have to make Trials and Tribbalations not have happened. HM.

Different timeline. Not related to any of the TV series at all. This is explained in the first film.

Parallel Universe caused by Spock travelling back in time.

Post subject:  Re: Star Trek

Sort of. The parallel universe was already subtlety different before that point (Spock and Kirk not being friends, Kirk not being captain, etc).

It was basically a device to ensure they could do what they liked. I lost interest after the second film anyway, which was garbage. Still haven't watched the 3rd one.

I haven't seen it n a while, but unless it takes place in Spock Prime's universe then it isn't related.

It was Nero not Spock who created it when he travelled through a wormhole.

Post subject:  Re: Star Trek

Nero came though the wormhole and attacked the Kelvin - which Kirk was being born on - and that's the point it split. The Kelvin would still have been the same ship, though.

the third is better than then 2nd (i know it is not difficult), but not as good as the 1st.

Author:  LewieP [ Wed Jan 31, 2018 11:41 ]
Post subject:  Re: Star Trek

Yeah my understanding was that 09 starts in the prime universe, but it's an alternate timeline from the moment Nero's ship pops in through the wormhole.

Which in my view makes it the classic soft-reboot. Obviously very different in tone and feel, but with ties to the original continuity.

Ultimately this seems like it was a misstep, given how feeble their Wrath of Kahn remake was, and how they might have been better served by boldly going where no previous series had gone before.

There had been a few films after and Kirk was dead. It needed a reboot, to start the films again. The Kahn was not terrible just not that great.

I dispute that it "needed" a reboot at all. And I usually enjoy reboots.

Yeah I mean I think the reboot should have gone further to distance itself from TOS, rather than having not been a reboot.
