Anyone catch it?

I thought it was a good start, and better than last season. Still not quite as good as the Life on Mars, but getting better.

It was OK, not great. At least it hasn't gone downhill.

They went wrong when they miscast the lead, really. It's not a bad series, but it could be far, far better. I don't think it'll be as remembered as well as Life on Mars is.

I cant look at the main guy without thinking of his pathetic yank accent in Demons. Utter gash.

Who, Gene Hunt? He's fantastic in Life on Mars, though.

Yeah Gene Hunt.

No doubt he is/was after seeing him perform as an hamerican it makes Dick Van Dykes Cockney accent in Mary Poppins sound kosher.

Honestly though, Life On Mars wasn't all that, was it?

I really, really enjoyed it, more than I remember enjoying the last series, and I liked that.

So, yeah, good stuff.

I loved Life on Mars, a lot. I watched a couple of episodes of Ashes to Ashes and wasn't gripped, to be honest. I think John Simm and Phil Glenister had a fantastic chemistry, but the woman lead in AtA just didn't really seem to have much about her (apart from great legs).

That go on forever - Keeley Hawes I think isn't it - very posh and very very tall IIRC

I thought it was a great episode, and bodes well for the series as a whole. I really liked Life On Mars, but for me, I think I'm enjoying Ashes more.

Just watched it. Because we know the situation that Sam Tyler was in in Life on Mars, then there is comparatively little mystery with AtA. And Keeley Hawes is no John Simm.

Having said that, Ashes to Ashes is good in parts. But LoM was good all the time.

They might as well have just called it The Gene Hunt Show.

Interestingly, Philip Glenister appears in the opening credits before Keeley Hawes.

Yeah he's the main draw now. He has a sort of Alf Garnett type appeal to people who don't quite get it.
