If anyone's been following the news stories on Eurogamer for the last few days, CoD: Woof at War is proving to be very controversial... the various companies involved have people at each other's throats, while the comments threads always degenerate into a argument about whether this is a shameless cash-in (it is) or a good game in its own right.

And there's the inevitable 'you can't judge the game based on the demo!' idiots.

Except you can, because they aren't going to be changing much. What you CAN'T judge is the single player campaign, but I doubt many people care about that these days.

Exactly. The whole point of the demo is to convince you to buy the game.

Single player Call of Duty is just slowly creeping through the levels to activate the next invisible scripted trigger to unlock the next portion of the level.

Yeah, and with the old skool weapons that are so slow after every shot I can see it getting very frustrating.
After playing the beta aswell, I can safely say Im not going to purchase this game, well not until Ive tried out the single player on someone elses console first

Actually, the bolt action rifles are a big favourite... and a good portion of the outcry is that they've been significantly weakened compared to those in CoD2 and 3. Yes, the Kar98 needs you to work the bolt after each shot, but in CoD3 it was powerful enough that you shouldn't need more than one shot most of the time anyway. Damned satisfying weapon to use, but it did take getting used to. That's what the Garand was for, as it fired more rapidly but was weaker in turn.

When I've been playing the demo I've been mostly using the Arisaka and while it feels similar (as it should), it's not as powerful as it should be. If I can only fire every 2-ish seconds, I need high damage to compensate.

Ive hardly played the beta, I just got fed up with it.
I bum CoD4, im not going to lie, and the 3 maps we;ve got on the beta are pretty lame,

I've not been able to shoot a helichopper down yet. What I might do, is make some persone with a UAV jammer and the explosives detector to get that challenge and then try to get 150 kills with an AK.

Shooting down a helicopter on your own is very hard... as you have to hope that it holds still for long enough (the RPGs travel much slower than you think) and that it doesn't spot you... and the whole time avoid being shot by the other team.

You can easily shoot down choppers using the mounted guns. The ones on Overgrown are good for this, but Backlot works too.

Also, unloading an entire LMG into them more or less does the job.

Hardcore Search and Destroy FTW, frankly. The shite perks don't enter into things to SKANK THEM UP nearly as much that way.

I think I've decided that hardcore anything is so much better than normal.

Such as the terrible 'erotic' films they show after 11pm on the movies4men channels. A bunch of US soap opera rejects with bad tits and worse hair whack their pelvises together in the worst simulation of sex you've ever seen.

I've really sort of just recently properly 'clicked' with CoD4 in Hardcore mode, it's all tense and fraught and that. For some reason whenever I play it all of my enemies are French. Like that Foo Fighters song.

I don't particularly enjoy Hardcore mode, personally. I know Bobby plays it all the time, but it means I have to switch all my perks around, as I have 'Stopping Power' on pretty much every gun, which isn't too useful when one hit will usually finish someone off.

What annoys me about it is that at least half of my deaths every single time are from random fire. You don't need any sort of accuracy. So, so often an enemy is shooting at someone vaguely near me, and spray wildly. One bullet goes through a table and catches my big toe... and I'm dead.

I pretty much always end up positive on K/D ratios on regular games, and almost always negative on Hardcore. The only times I ever get positive are on maps like 'Bog', where I can sit at the back of the level and snipe.
