I've just caught up on this thread, having ignored it since it started, for some reason. Despite the fact that I love IW's CA CoD4 GOTYE 9/10(IGN) online. Anyway, the M16 is the best weapon in the game if you can get over the fact that it fires in three round bursts. IMHOCODFO.

Well my girlfriends pissed off and I've no plans till tomorrow so it's just me and my gadgets, ale and games given 9/10 by the prestigious IGN website tonight. Woohoo!

So I'll be up for trying out this CoD4 stuff.

(Though I do need time to play Mario Kart and watch BSG too)

Cheers for the game, lads. Nice to have it confirmed how incredibly awful I am at console shooters, but a bloody good chuckle all the same.

Even if I can't now shake the thought of biting into a Babybel filled with Marmite. Thanks for that.

Sorry for disappearing, everyone. I had to put a drunk Ange to bed as she couldn't stand properly. Her friends went to bed and then she came and started annoying me, so I thought I'd deflect the annoyance onto you guys instead.

When I came back everyone had gone. :(

In all seriousness, I'm fairly bored now, due to being stuck in the house (If I leave, there's a good chance I won't be allowed to return for a while, according the the police.) And they've quieted the explosions anyway. (It turns out we didn't get any last night as they didn't have enough sandbags, and the extra sandbags and new tunnels seem to have dampened the explosions)

I've just spent the last 4 hours staring at pages of memory info (A quick snippet for you, just so you can understand how thrilling it is)

Code:
00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 10 5f 1f 00 c0 5e 1f 00 fd fd fd fd ab ab ab ab ab ab ab ab ee fe ee fe 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 24 c7 77 5f 3a 34 00 1c a0 5e 1f 00 08 25 1f 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 10 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 3d 00 00 00 fd fd fd fd 00 00 00 00 c0 5e 1f 00 00 00 00 00 c0 5e 1f 00 fd fd fd fd ab ab ab ab ab ab ab ab ee fe ee fe 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 22 c7 77 59 3a 34 00 18 08 25 1f 00 b8 25 1f 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 24 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 3f 00 00 00 fd fd fd fd 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 fd fd fd fd ab ab ab ab ab ab ab ab 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 27 c7 74 5f 3c 34 00 00 c8 26 1f 00 c4 00 1f 00 ee fe ee fe ee fe ee fe ee fe ee fe ee fe ee fe ee fe ee fe ee fe ee fe ee fe ee fe ee fe ee fe ee fe ee fe ee fe ee fe ee fe ee fe ee fe ee fe ee fe ee fe ee fe ee fe

Exciting, no? Geek points if you can actually tell anything about the state of the memory in question.

I have re-unlocked the triple frags perk. w00t, as they used to say on the internet.

I shall not be playing the game that Travis Moses, Assistant Editor of Gamepro called "The best shooter of 2007" tonight.

I will instead be getting riotously drunk at the Sunday Times Wine Club Vintage Festival. Opportunities for evening drunken posting abound. I'd like to apologise in advance if/when I offend everyone.

Right then, guys. Who's up for this tonight? I have a few game reviews to write up, then I'm free as a bird. The female companion is off out with her mates, and I'll be picking her up in the wee hours, so ideally I'd like some entertaining folk to play with until then. WHO'S GAME?!

I heard about this on the news. I used to go there quite a bit as I stalked the girls had an ex-girlfriend who went the the local school there.

This was a long time ago. ;)

Hmm. What on earth are you doing that involves RAM dumps in hex? Rather hardcore in this day and age. I know four 0xFD is something to do with boundaries of malloc()ed areas, and I can see a few of those in there, and they seem to have contents in. The repeated 0xFE 0xEE is interesting, but I don't know what to make of it.

If you saw it on the news, it's highly likely that you saw not only my house, but also my car. The building being searched is pretty much opposite our house. Originally the police area only included a few houses including ours and the 'car park' shared between us and the line opposite, which meant that the news were pretty much on our front door, and our house and the carpark were the backdrop to the reporting in the morning. Since then the entire street has been closed. It's much nicer now we don't have photographers trying to take pictures whenever we get remotely close to a window.

It was exciting when it first happened. By now I'm a little tired of the Army and Police sitting on my front door.

Debugging a collision system, mainly. That's the output of one of the memory windows I had open early in a test.

It was a whole lot easier than trying to set up watches on many objects, and I'm used to debugging optimised code, so it doesn't make me flinch (comparitively, this is a walk in the park). And it also familiarises myself with the memory structures so that if they appear in a debug spew, or when I have to deal with the optimised version, it's much easier.

But anyway - What that memory sheet would tell me if I came to it cold : CRT debugging enabled and heap memory, 3 objects, one which is likely 16 bytes, one that is definately 16 bytes (and is the 61st block allocated), and one that is 36 bytes (63rd block allocated). A whole lot of unallocated memory at the end (0xfeee = freed memory. 0xdd = dead memory that has not yet been freed, 0xab = padding after the memory allocation) All the non null values are pointers (as the between object pointers point to pretty much the same area of memory, it's a good guess) The heap (or at least that section of it) is healthy, if not organised that well.

Interesting stuff. Quite alien to me -- I've done a little x86 and a little C in my time, but not much, and not for years and years. I work in SQL/Java/C# etc etc now. I regard myself quite lucky that I never have to malloc() anything!

As I was going to sleep last night, I found myself considering possible new tactics and class configurations for Infniy Ward's aclaime fist-person shooer Cal of Duty 4 - Moden Wafare (ublished by Actvision). Yes that's right. Not since, oo, Tetris, do I remember going to sleep whilst thinking hard about play strategy in a game. That game being Infinity Ward's alaimed frst-peron shooter Cal of Duy 4 - Modrn Ware (pubishe by Activsio).

yeah i have found little replay value in single player. the multiplayer, with mates, is pretty good / frustrating in equal measure. worth playing though.

Why am I having trouble joining a Team Deathmatch game? It just hangs on the search screen and doesn't find any. Mercenary Team Deathmatch is fine, however. Seems to be since I got the map-pack.

I presume that none of the horrid plebs that play TDM have the maps? Not that it should matter...OR SHOULD IT?! MTDM is the way to go anyway.

I always play MTDM over TDM when not in a group, as it stops you getting pounded on by clans.
