Strange! I get them all of the time. When I started playing again about a month ago I was level 30-odd without any prestige, and I regularly got those messages no matter what playlist I was on. Maybe it's just luck of the draw. Either way, it's a total game-ruiner for me. Literally get four or five of them an hour. Combined with horrible campers, people hiding in rocks and team mates who play objective-based games like they're deathmatch just add to the hate. Why do they do that? WHY?

I play MW2 a fair bit, and have only ever received 2 messages from people about Prestige 10 lobbies.

Mind you, can randoms even send me messages now I have 'Friends Only' voice on?

Also, can someone remind me how I change that setting? I'm happy where it is, but my brother wants to set it up and I can't remember what I did to get it.

I've only ever had one of those messages, usually I just get called a cunt or a cheating cunt.

Maybe they're trying to say you've no mad skills & the only way you'll hit tenth prestige is by playing in a hacked lobby :P

@Curio, it's in "Profile" I think.

When the first batch of hacking started i used to get around 1 a night - i reported / blocked them and just kept on going - at some point in the past it started slowing down and i got less of them , until it switched and then instead of 10th level prestige its 'quick scoping' and they went back up for a while , then they started to tail off again and when i got that one last night it must be the first in around a month ?

Its probably random and i'll get dozens of them tonight to make up for it :-)

Urgh. I'd be cancelling my preorder if I didn't expect everyone I know to be playing it for the next year. :'(

Hopefully I can convert a few chums to Reach, assuming it's aces.

Kinda sounds like you've already reached that conclusion.

There's still room in this world for COD and Halo though. Your avid gamers will probably pick up both anyway (lord knows, I will. And Kane & Lynch 2 unless its an unmitigated disaster like the first one).

I'll still be picking it up, got it on pre-order. I have to give it a chance. I like MW2 a lot, it's just the other people who ruin it - and that's because of bad decisions by the developers.

That might be more the way of the [gaming] world I'm afraid.

Still, only 5 miles to go and I've finally done the 'lightfoot' perk! Then it's just another 54 on Sitrep, finishing AC130's, EMP's and Nukes, and then maybe I can get on with the rest of my life.

Indeed. You too can get teamkilled by me twice in under three seconds!

Though the second one was harsh... it shouldn't have spawned him where my Javelin missile was landing...

Got to be the weirdest MW2 glitch ever

From Kotaku

http://kotaku.com/5609745/bizarre-moder ... games-free

Quote:
The Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has had a curious side effect on a handful of Live Arcade games. Infinity Ward's modern military shooter is unlocking the full versions of five SNK games for free.

According to a report on Worthplaying, Modern Warfare 2—the full version of the game and its recently released downloadable demo—unlocked full, freely playable versions of Garou: Mark of the Wolves, The King of Fighters '98: Ultimate Match, Metal Slug 3, Metal Slug XX and Samurai Shodown II. Other SNK games (Fatal Fury Special, Neo Geo Battle Coliseum ) don't appear to be affected by the glitch.

All players need to do is access the demo versions of those SNK games from the guide button while playing Modern Warfare 2 and "quick launch" them.

Worthplaying explains further how the unusual unlock works, a bug we expect Microsoft, SNK and Activision might be scrambling to fix.

'Modern Warfare 2' (ALL) Bug Grants Free SNK Games [Worthplaying - thanks, Drtyfrnk!]

Note it doesnt actually unlock them forever , when you exit out the games are still "demo's" (or so the comments say i'm no where near my Xbox to try it)

Unfair. K&L is a solid 6/10, I reckon.

Anyone watch that Wikileaks video and (inappropriately) think that the next CoD/MW ought to have better greater dust effects for the chopper gunner/AC130 killstreak?

Player attempts to get to level 70 without a kill

http://uk.ps3.gamespy.com/playstation-3 ... 160p1.html

Quote:
In the gunning, stabbing, air-striking multiplayer mayhem of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, one man is trying to achieve a lofty goal through non-violent means. Gamer Glen McCracken is attempting to become the first Modern Warfare 2 player to achieve level 70 without a single kill.

Game Informer tracked down the PlayStation 3 gamer that plays under the fitting name of Mr_No_Kills and asked why he has endeavored to take on such a noble pursuit.

"I've already hit Prestige five times. I thought it would be something interesting to do," Glen told Game Informer. "It definitely gives you a different perspective on the game, and it's fun and challenging."

McCracken may not be taking a Gandhi-like stance against violence in videogames, but he is becoming a hit in Domination and Demolition modes where his singular goal is to earn experience points by securing flags and blowing up objectives.

Using a riot shield and the occasional, carefully thrown flash bang, Mr_No_Kills has already reached level 11 without a single kill. In that time, he's been killed a surprisingly low 272 times, a kill-to-death ratio that would make most Modern Warfare 2 addicts squirm.

McCracken estimates it will take him two months to reach level 70. Help him reach his goal by looking for Mr_No_Kills online and covering his ass while he secures objectives.

Maybe that's why they squirm. Divide by zero errors.

Oh come on your not going to start picking holes in it , like asking for people to help him when he's playing on the Ps3 !

:smug:

(they may be trying to say that getting killed that few times to get to level 11 is something good , but managed to Blem it up when they actually put the words together)

I had a massive leap forward in the last week, levelled up twice, unlocked the M16, nearly maxxed out the M4 and have been consistently getting positive kill/death ratios, and coming in the top three about half the time. Either I inadvertantly unlocked the Kindergarten Mode or I gots me some mojos.

Also, I now love Free For All.

If he divides by zero it's as good as a nuke! That'll fuck his plans up a bit.

Ohhhh you mean MW2

Yeah your still top , but Bobbys catching up with you on time spent

Oh and putting both together you get silly stuff like

Bobby has played these games for over 45 'days' (almost 1100 hours playing the game)
Nickachu has played these games for over 39 'days' in game (over 930 hours! - and thats only counted hours , if you add the lag in we're talking years)
Curiosity has played these games for over 32 'days'

Yeah from my screenshot you were up to Level 32 last night.

Apart from that - considering you'd left it as long as you had - do you think it was worth it ?

No! I could have loads of emblems and titles for just shooting piles and piles of people in the face. You can max out your weapons pre-prestige and get NOTHING. I fear I have wasted my life.

I got my first 25 kill streak last night (I finished 26-0) playing Hardcore Capture the Flag.

Annoyingly, I did not have the nuke equipped, though I might as well have done, as my Sentry Gun didn't get me any kills (as ever).

The game you ducked out of last night was probably the worst one i'd played. It was on highrise and the oposing team had placed a sentry gun on the 'top' of the building and then had a number of snipers lying down on the pads in the middle - you spawned - walked towards the exit of the building and got shot.

The only way out was to go underground and get up into the middle but then you got the sentry gun or whatever other flying things that were out there - i think it ended up 7500 / 2500 or some other silly score.

I hate Highrise. I think it's probably the most unbalanced map. That sounds ridiculous because it's symmetrical, but once a team gets a foothold and a killstreak in the air, it's nigh on impossible to turn it back around. I always veto that map.

I quite like it, but only because it's good for FMJ kills!

Also, apols for vanishing last night. The missus wanted me for a bit.

Highrise with the right team / game type and right opponents can be good , and as its a small map you dont get the 'oh i'm dead i need to run along half the map to get back into the action' which can be a problem for some of the larger maps.

However the 'roof' exploit , plus the various sniping positions (cranes / front of buildings), the poor choice of spawn points mean that if your team is confined in one area its very difficult to get out of.

Yeah!

Got me a nuke playing Hardcore Headquarters on Strike, avec Riles, Bobby and Zaphod.

Woop woop!

Narrowly missed out on the 'Nuke when losing' unlock as we were tied at the time. Had I been thinking straight I'd have waited for them to take the lead, but I was too excited.

:DD

Nicely done , and in the game before i got killed over 60 times and still came in ahead of Riles on the leaderboard :-)

I finally maxed the FAL , which just leaves me one assault rifle to do , however its the F2000 and i need FMJ kills on it , and its *crap* - takes plenty of hits to kill and sprays all over the place unless you squeeze the shots off - i think i'll give up on that and go to the LMG's

By maxed do you mean the Mastery? I have that for all the guns bar the last two Sniper Rifles (but I'm only 4 FMJs from the WA2000), the Uzi (20 FMJs), the final LMG (40 FMJs and 20 kills) and the AK-47 (nada).

I also have 500+ kills on all of them apart from the F2000 and the aforementioned non-mastered guns.

Oddly, I got the Nuke whilst using the F2000, though only 4 of the 25 kills were using bullets from said gun.

Yes (sorry) I mean Mastery , that I've unlocked everything on it , there are very few that I've actually got the 1000 kills on and none i've done all headshots (500?)

Hardcore seems to be the way to go for the crappier guns , on 'regular' they just dont have the stopping power (even with stopping power pro)

My numbers

I've maxed the Prestige kills for the M4 (2500 isn't it?), and have got 1000 for a few others.

I've decided not to Prestige this time until I've nailed all my C4, knife and RPG multi-kills. And possibly some other stuff.

As I havent prestiged yet I dont have that number to check :-)
The standard one 'stops' at 1000

Aha. Once you Prestige, for every weapon there's a counter that doesn't reset that counts your kills with the gun, but it maxes out at 2500 (and gives you a pretty title).

Yeah well I may try soon since i've done what i was looking to do (max out 'most' of the AR's) - and it would be nice to get that extra class spot.

Right now i'm not 'close' to anything (apart from the F2000) so its probably about the time to say goodbye to the Claymores and other nice perks and go back around.

I don't know if I'm 'playing it wrong' (probably) but my progress through multiplayer mainly goes thus:

1: Play game, assess ability to pwn others in various situations

2: Identify areas for improvement, e.g. "This is a snipey map and always comes up, I always get constapwned by snipers so should try that. But my sniper rifles are gash, killcams reveal snipers are using the heat sight so I'll focus on working towards one of those, then my snipey time will be well spent.

3: Realise that I need to get 20 kills with my sniper rifle through an ACOG scope to get my heat sensor.

4: Spend two hours on inappropriate maps trying to get those 20 kills. It did help when I realised barebones took the air superiority out of the equation.

5: Achieve target then start looking around for another thing to improve, such as my sidearm for when I'm replete with sniper rifle.

High achievers - do you eschew grinding weapons and attachments in favour of using your best setup for the map/gametype and level up ambiently or a bit of both? It is possible I'm just shit at online FPS games.

Also, is it me or is red dot sight more betterer than holographic?

My classes are always optimised to level 'something' up... be it perks or equipment or stuff for your guns. The M4 is my favourite assault rifle, but since I got all 2500 kills with it I'm using others just for variety and to unlock stuffs (such as cool emblems and titles).

Which is why I find myself using the crappy F2000 and Mini-Uzi at the moment...
