I'm seeing Mark Thomas tonight. I'm hoping it's more gags and a little less politics. I saw him do stand up like 15 years ago and he was amazing.

he wasn't great. it was lots of boasting about things he's done with some okay gags thrown in there. he kept putting on a post accent for effect and it got tiresome.

glad I saw him, not sure I'll bother again though.

Listening to it now, it's not too bad at all. It's not a soundboard recording, it's a mic in the crowd. Perfectly audible and the crowd buzz is very good.

On the basis of this thread I watched the religion episode last night on the YouTube and I have to say I was entirely underwhelmed.

I'm really the only person who finds that podcast completely unbearable, then?

I toyed with watching it, then realised that I'd spend the entire time thinking of how much I want to punch Stewart Lee in the face instead of laughing. He does have an incredibly punchable face, doesn't he? (I could just close my eyes, but fantasizing about punching Stewart Lee is still more fun than sitting in complete, stony silence.)

Of course, this wasn't helped by reading that article about his 'Del-boy falling through the bar' bit. How dare he take shots at one of the finest pieces of physical comedy seen on British television? Fucking smug-faced cunt. I mean, its no longer as funny as it once was, but if you take any piece of comedy and rip its screaming form from the womb of context and force it to repeat itself twelve million times... Well, little can survive that. See also most of Python's famous stuff.
