Bah. Trying to play some CoD4 with my Bezzie Mates, and got a few kills in...first time I ever played and that's my excuse. HOWEVER, it appears my 360 has taken as disliking to being asked to play with you lot, and has thrown it's toys out of the pram.

I've just this second registered it for a repair, I'l led to believe with the RRoD MS fix it for free so hopefully they don't muck about with that. It does turn on every now and then so if you do see me online I'm either so bored I'm willing to play with the prospect of much crashing or I'm borrowing someone elses 360.

I am getting bloody Forza 2 tomorrow too, always the bloody case ><

How does this work now? Will MS come pick it up in a UPS van like for the Americans or do us Euroscum get the joys of going to the PostOffice?

How long is it supposed to take them...and more to the point did anyone here get their original machine back? If this triggers the DRM crap and makes me be online all the time I may have to get very cross with their support...

It was a UK launch machine so it was inevitable I suppose...

You'll get sent a UPS (from MS) email. They then arrange collection.

They told me about 3 weeks. As mine is still waiting to be picked up, I don't know much else.

Well at least they have the decency to pick it up themselves I guess. There will be people here all the time so someone can open the door to nice Mr. UPS.

When did you send yours off, Mr Dave?

Mine is still waiting to be picked up.

I bought another as I didn't really want to spend a few weeks with only the PS3 and Wii as gaming devices. My original one is going to be fixed and be sent to a new home.

Aye. I do have another one downstairs but it's not mine, and is rigged to a grotty old SD TV. If Shewolf can't get hers in her case then I'll cope with that for a bit.

<edit>

Well, we're off to a good start. I've just filled in a webform that doesn't quite work properly in Opera or Firefox, and it says they are emailing me shipping label so I can send it myself. Then the next page says "Next Steps : We will email yuo when your empty box ships". No mention of UPS.

This isn't looking too convincing.

Will they do this for the HD-DVD drive too, mine is dodgy and I bet GAME won't have any left if I take it back.

Why not take it back to the shop that you bought it from?

See my post, GAME won't have any by now and I don't want a refund, I want to be able to play HD-DVDs.

For a console I certainly would, since they'd end up swapping it for a shiny new one.

Dudders, if you register the serial code in My Xbox, you should see it listed under your Devices, and see it's warranty status. Dunno if they'll actually come pick it up, mind, my Xbox warranty expired in 2006, I'm using the extended RRoD 3 years clause. Which was good timing I suppose, if it had been a few months later I'd have had to pay for repairs.

I suggest getting a refund and then going to Gamestation - if they're anything like the ones by me, they'll have quite a few HD-DVDs on sale for about £40.

Both GAMEs and a GameStation in Ipswich have HD-DVD drives. At least 4 each. I was toying with picking one up cheap, but I decided against it for now.

No wonder MS have sold so mamy 360s with people here saying "oh, I just bought a new one and gave the original away".

I'm telling you, it's absolutely no wonder as well that the economy is in the state it's in with everyone owning at least 4 360s. That's why I bought a Wii.....

Yes, I also have a wii, and a PS3. Of the three, the XBox is the only one I'd want to buy again if it broke.

And besides, two people end up with 360s. That's essentially the same as two sales, is it not?

Nice Mr.UPS Man has just called to take the Coffin away. He didn't actually check the stickers mind, so it'll probably get "lost" in a few days, knowing my luck ;)

Ah well. Now just to sit on the tracking status page hitting "refresh" over and over and over and over for the next few weeks.

Not really, F5 in my GNOME desktop is bound to "Switch to Desktop 5". I could change the wallpaper on Desk 5 to your grinning face to cheer me up while I'm waiting though.

Same here, he checked there was a label, but that was it. Although he was probably a bit more concerned about the 3 policemen he had as escort rather than my package, to be fair.

I registered mine to be collected about 8 days ago, I recieved an email with label but i haven't yet been sent a box for collection. Did any of you have to contact UPS to get the box delivered? I assumed it would happen automatically and i didn't see anything else that says otherwise, does it normally take this long? I think the emailed label is only valid for 10 days so i guess i'm nearly out of time to send it back.

On the phone, I got told to buy the packing, and that I should print the label and affix it to that. So I did. Except I somewhat overestimated the amount of bubble wrap needed, and now have enough left over to wrap up about 2 people.

We had to provide the box and packaging, I too opted for lots of bubblewrap.
And clear tape to cover the lable. Then we arranged the ups man to come pick it up today (vis ups website).

I just went and tested, and I overestimated the amount needed again - there's enough to wrap up four people. I now do, however, have a picture of me wrapped up in bubblewrap in amongst lots of pictures of the police activity outside (huge green walls have been erected, and various industrial vehicles have appeared. And fortunately the journos have left)

I live on the cul-de-sac in question. (Indeed, my car and my house have been in many of the pictures released, despite the suspected terrorist living in the next block. But they're not allowed to get to that, so we're the next best thing.)

Between thinking our roof had collapsed when the explosion went off, having to play dodge the journalist, and having to ask for permission to leave/reneter the house, it's been a really odd day. pictures will have to wait for now.

Edit : Oh, and we've just been told to stay at the back of the house, and we have to signal if we want to leave before we even open the door.

You won't get sent a box, fella. It's wronger than a box full of wrong, being sent to Mr.Wrong, Wrongsville, Wrong. What you need to do is go here and arrange a delivery time to suit you. I picked "Tomorrow, After 12 Before 4" and he came at 3. It all went smoothly and my tracking status has updated already.

I just nicked a box from work. I'll be buggered if I'm actually paying for one. Although I did buy bubble wrap, just to make sure it doesn't get there in more pieces than it started off in.

I could probably get away with stealing one from work, since I'm self employed and work from home. But it does take the fun out of raiding the stationary cupboard.

I cancelled my last repair and setup a new one today online since the old ticket had expired - again it told me that I definately would be sent a box, but then i recieved an extra email that i didn't get last time which told me that i wouldn't... You'd think microsoft could get their Websites right even if they keep screwing up os's and consoles. Wish i'd just rung them instead. Now i'll have to wait even longer before i can play GTA4.

Just need to find some padding, hmm, i've got an old sofa to get rid of, i wonder if i could slide the xbox in the middle and get UPS to take the lot away...

I was told I'd get the option of a box or stickers but when I clicked Submit I never got the choice, I just got sent a UPS mail with stickers to print. Dunno what I'd have done if I didn't actually have a printer...the whole process was far more confusing than it would have been had they actually had one page with a correct step by step instruction of what to do, rather than saying you get a box, when you don't and discrepancies between their site and the UPS site and their email.

Blatant lies... There's no option at all for being sent a box or even a sticker. It just tells you that you will be sent a box on the support page, which clearly will never happen. I just have another barely legible image to print off (you can hardly read the text but the barcode seems clear enough) Oh, and my printer has just run out of ink. Great.

Quite. I had to take the ink cartridge out of my printer and give it a shake and a hug to squeeze one last print out of it or I'd have had to go buy a new Black cart. You can't even just copy the address down with a pen cus the numerous barcodes are for the tracker gun the UPS man carries and he won't take it without.

I *believe* if you get really stuck you can phone UPS and ask the man to bring a box and labels with him, but that might just be America.

Just got an email from UPS saying that my Xbox has just been shipped back from Havant. Should be back within 7 days, probably less.

I have to say, that was a quick turnaround!

Very quick. Almost as if they either swapped it or prodded with their knuckles a bit and then declared it "fixed" ;)

It's definately not swapped, the serial number on the return is the exact same one I sent them. I wouldn't be 100% surprised to get it back and find I plug it in to find it RRoD's mind.

It's deffo had *something* done to it because it's Status page now reads "In Warranty" whereas when I sent it off it said "Out of Warranty".

Mine did that. It worked again for about 6 months and then shat itself.

I've only had the bastard thing since October, I have an eighteen-year old Megadrive that still works.

Three red lights? Not good.

They do fix it extraordinarily quickly, mind. Gone are the days when it took a month to fix.

Yes, did you happen to see how many red lights it was Davydd?

I've had mine boot up with a corrupted display/crashed (not the TV's fault) a couple of times before now (once yesterday morning), but always had green lights.

If it's four red lights then it's that the display isn't connected properly, as far as I can recall. Was it definitely three?

Mine used to do that. The eventual red lighting showed the same corruption, only more blue.

As some of you may be aware, I run an indoor market stall selling games and stuff. I've only had about 5 360s in and of those, three have gone RRoD. One went this week. Best get on to microsoft then..
