Really? I live 10 minutes walk up North End Road, my car is currently sat uselessly in the Saab/Vauxhall garage next door to it.

Really? Spook!

Well, kind of. I live near Sutton and get the train to Wimbledon, tube to 'FBDY :spew: ' and then bus to work. Not getting the tube into zone 1 is almost 50% cheaper. I work a fair bit further down the Fulham Road - in the labs near the Marsden and Brompton hospitals, close to South Kensington station. It's damned expensive around there, most of the shops are dead poncy.

Joking aside, Fulham is actually a reasonably nice area, I quite like it. Not that I go out there often though.

To abuse a phrase: small city, eh?

Pretty much. I actually work in ealing, so I'm getting the tube the not crowded way from West Kensington. If I like, and when I have the car (sob), you can actually drive there pretty traffic free too. I don't though because it's £1 by tube.

As far as I can tell though, you're saving £1 on the tube by not going to zone 1....and then spending 90p on the bus. I'm not sure where your gain is here ;)

I buy weekly travel cards, so the bus is included on them (for any zone). None of yer fancy pants pay as you go*. No sir, I am old school :hat: After the price rise recently, it's £20.20 for trains/tube in zones 2-4, and as much bussage as I care to shake a rolled up London Lite at. Not sure what 1-4 for a week costs, but last time I did that (which was a while ago) it was about 36 quid.

And it doesn't really seem to take much longer, and I get off the tube befoire it gets really busy around earl's court. Hurrah!

Man, what a dull-o conversation to start the day with.

*Unless I'm going into zone 1 for an evening out or something, which is not often.

I've had a box of Lush stuff for my birthday, I do quite like it but agree it's well over priced. I used to make my own (also being an aromatherapist) but it just didn't sell so I couldn't be bothered wasting my time with it anymore. Now I just sell everyday healthcare products.

I may have a Subway today. Meatball is sub-o'-the-day on Tuesdays I think (or is it BMT? One or the other).

Today I'm eating the remaining food I got free over the course of the marathon weekend. You get given a few goody bags with cereal bars, milkshakes, sweets, biscuits etc. all over the place. Enough to snack on although being a fat pie and only 5 minutes walk from a Subway, I have a suspicion I'll be making a footlong visit later.

I like Nando's. hey're relatively cheap and cheerful, and the wold herb dressing (or whatever they call it) is quite addictive. I used to go there once a week when I worked in Richmond (we had loyalty cards and the manager gave us free drinks), but haven't been there for years now...

Meatball is Tuesday.

My local subway stopped doing sub of the day last week.
Apparently the whole chain is phasing it out by the end of May, to be replaced by the rubbish 'taste of the month'.

And then after that 'Flavour of the year', and after that 'Subtle hint of the decade'.

I had a maccies instead. It's next to the subway. It was perfectly acceptable.

I was introduced this week to the bargainsome aceness of Boots meal deals.

Today I am eating pesto pasta salad, with chorizo crisps, a guava & mango smoothie, and a raspberry cheesecake. For less than £3. Barg!

Credit to boots actually, the deals are usually not bad, but the best thing about them is that they can be bought with boots points. There's been more than one occasion that I've been hungry and strapped for cash and the boots card has come to the rescue. Handy.

The Boots card is about the only loyalty card worth having IMO and certainly the only one I have. The point allocation is very generous.

Agree. Shame I seldom have reason to shop at boots. Mostly for buying perfume at christmas, or hayfever stuff in the summer.

I dunno... I've racked up an impressive stack of Tesco point vouchers over the years. Not close to being as generous as the Boots card, granted, but I live near a couple of big Tescos, and tehre are two on my way home from work, so they get a lot of my money!

No, they choose three that are cheap for the whole month. Currently it's spicy italian, club and tuna.

There's a great little sandwich shop in lancaster called 'Doughnuts'. Do any of you Lancastrian/ex-Lancastrian folks know/remember it?

I got two baguettes (about 12" long) filled with whatever was on my mind for our lunch and two luxury doughnuts (a caramel doughnut and a chocolate orange one, I think) and it was less than £5. All the ingredients are fresh and don't look plasticky. Anyone from around this way that doesn't know it - it's just to the right of Barclay's Bank, down the side road that passes behind the library.

Also: all their bread is freshly baked on premises throughout the day, so your sandwich is never rubbery.

I'd like to segue this topic and talk about breakfast cereals.

What is the preferred breakfast of choice here? I've just had crunchy nut, which are fun but make me want to instantly brush my teeth afterwards. Cheerios are also pretty fair. However the most superior cereal known to man has to be Cinnamon Toast Crunch, which is what Cinnamon Grahams used to be called. I think now they've changed the name to something even more absurd like 'Cinnamon Surprise', or something.

Anyway, they're ace, but I don't buy them. If I bought them I'd eat the whole box in one fat sitting. It's been done before.

Subway's web site still promotes the Sub of the Day. Grim..., maybe it's only your franchisee that has done this montly promotion thingy. If I go past our Subway today I'll take a look.

Also: it's always worth asking in Subway if they have any voucher booklets. They normally leaflet local offices and generally have some behind the counter, packed with offers like "three footlongs for a tenner" and BOGOF and suchlike. It can take some cheek to get them out of the staff sometimes though, but you lose nothing for asking. Just say you work nearby and all your fat workmates have nicked the vouchers and you didn't get any. Works for me every time.

My breakfast cereal of choice is Crunchy Nut Corn Flakes (WITHOUT MILK!).

However, I rarely have time for breakfast in the morning as I always hit the 'Snooze' button too often. So I sometimes buy bacon sandwiches from the shop by London Bridge station. They're really nice, but I have been trying to cut back. On the days I manage to restrain myself, I will have either nothing, or a Muller Fruit Corner.

Breakfast is totally for wimps. I only avail myself of it when I'm hungover, in which case it'll be a full fry up (if at home) or a bacon sandwich (if on the way to work).

Sleep>>>>toast in the morning.
