The list of games in the order we play is on the first page of this thread, so yes you did I'm afraid.

Told you. It's wierd isn't it! For such a punishing game it keeps on making you go back.

Any GX4000 virgins here who want to comment on the graphics, sound, and game in general?

TBF, I used to love this game. I still have it knocking around on my C64 GS, but I can't recall it being this difficult.

The other versions are easier. There was abit of a push with the GX4000 to make games more like arcade games, so some games had the difficulty ramped up. Robocop 2 was another one that is actually even more unforgiving.

I had Robocop 2 and Shadow of the beast, and they were really difficult, but I recall I managed to finish Navy Seals a number of times. I am too used to 3d games now. The Beirut level of NS is really good, used to love playing that.

Up and jump when you are next to them.

You can also climb certain crates that you are also able to walk past. Holding up while jumping will also enable you to catch hold of ledges and swing up. Halfway through the first level you need to make rather a long jump so you need to take a run up and then hold up while jumping so you catch hold of a ledge.

Would have done better but I wasted about 15 seconds on level 1 which ate into my bonus.

2 hours to get your scores in.

And if someone has a link for next weeks game that would be great as it's distribution denies (Gunfright). Cheers.

I think we can now safety say the battle is for 2nd place. But I'm happy with my win and am hoping for great things for our next CPC game Kwik Snax.

Cheers. Zaph.

If you play the game in an emulator, ensure you are in 48k mode or the game will crash.

Hmmm - potential problem with this.

When your game is over unless you've beaten the top score how do you find out what your score was ?

It simply returns to the game select screen so unless you remember (or take screenshots before you lose your last life) your stuck ?

Oh. Looks like whoever nominated didn't look at the rules.

We'll just have to accept honesty. No screenshots required!

Grrr. The first thing I do when usually playing a Filmation game is to select "directional controls". Guess what this game doesn't have?

Although I trust your honesty, I'm not even sure any of you know how many zeros are in a billion. So I'll only accept credulous scores in proper numbers.

People who aren't honest may force me to wear The Hat Of Justice.

As this is all my fault:

- Walk about, avoid the scary floating women (or find a pantomime horse and try to avoid running over said scary floating women) until you see this bouncing up and down:

Image

Follow where he's poiinting to and hopefully you'll find the current bad guy. The first two look like this:

Image

Shoot the bad guy once and it'll go back to the firing range bit, and you have to draw first. The secret is to wait until they stop moving before shooting.

I wish I'd nominated Jet Pac. Or Renegade. Or Game Over. Or Army Moves.

I still think that this is great game, though. Better than Nightshade, although admittedly filmation 2 was a bit rubbish.

I might try again later. I was having terrible control problems. The game itself was OK but the shooty section wasn't working very well for me. Couldn't fire or control it properly.

I really struggled with it for a while until i realised :

When you get to that stage *DONT TOUCH THE JOYSTICK* , as soon as you do its seen that your drawing your gun so they try to shoot you , instead if you wait it displays draw and then you've a few seconds grace to get to him (unless he's right above you in which case you can shoot him if your quick

Well I got that far but got confused about the controls.

Got 150. No screenshot. Bah.

Still weeks to go and i've only been 2nd for the last 2 games.

Heres a first score for this weeks , a great game but i much prefer the follow up - this can be brutal at times with the enemy just whacking you twice and game over

Hey,

Does anyone is interested in a challenge like chinnyhill's but for Arcade games? I think this is a nice idea but i don't have interest for 8 bit games anymore. I'm sure its possible to have both competitions at the same time. Anyone interested?

I like the idea of it focusing on 8 bit games because it means its all about gameplay etc. How about including mame in the next one, though? Or even a list of machines/emulators with links so that obscure machines can be included.

I'm thinking about if and how we do another season. The democracy thing this time around worked really well some weeks but poorly other weeks (mainly because games hadn't been tested properly).

I'm not sure about arcade games though. The implication is that we are playing 8 bit home computer games.

One idea I had was shorter seasons and sticking to one format so people don't need to keep on swapping emulators. Or perhaps splitting a season into parts so we have one third Speccy, one third CPC, one third C64.

If your interested in an alternative i help run a forum which plays retro games on a league basis and we're due to start up another season in the next few weeks :

http://s11.zetaboards.com/RetroLeague/index/

This one is Chinnys league and his choice of whats here and not - I think there were some suggestions to make some themed weeks or parts of seasons and if you want to bring things into the 16-bit era and include Amiga / ST the real problem is getting the emulators going (Amiga can be a real pig to setup and tweak even if you understand the difference between 1.2/1.3 kickstarts / FAST ram / no ram / number of floppy disks attached etc etc)

This one is Chinnys league and his choice of whats here and not - I think there were some suggestions to make some themed weeks or parts of seasons and if you want to bring things into the 16-bit era and include Amiga / ST the real problem is getting the emulators going (Amiga can be a real pig to setup and tweak even if you understand the difference between 1.2/1.3 kickstarts / FAST ram / no ram / number of floppy disks attached etc etc)

i know this is chinny's league. I could organize an Arcade league if people are interested, that was what i was asking. I don't want to kill this one though, so i was just ensuring there was enough people for 2 different leagues

The problem is always that your splitting down the total number of players.

One option would be to alternate the weeks so
week 1 would be 8 bit
week 2 would be arcade
week 3 would be 8 bit

Then have a cumulative total or a seperate total for both.

I think adding a seperate arcade challenge and running it alongside the current 8 bit one will just mean that you have a few odd really popular weeks when there are lots of players and other barren weeks when there are only 1 or 2

The barrier is always getting people to get the emulator running. The Amiga is just a non starter, just to much faffing. Even for those of us who owned Amiga machines, emulating them is little fun.

Arcade I'm unsure of but I could be convinced. I'm also unsure as to if I'd want to run another season.

Amiga can be a bit more difficult than console emulators, but this forum is full of geeks (most of them who owned an Amiga). I don't think it could pose much of a problem.

MAME is very easy. It seems the latest official versions don't support the highscore.dat file, but there are many alternatives. Besides that, i don't recall any problems before playing.

The good thing about Arcade is that you have the best versions of each game in there, and the games are good for this type of challenge.

I agree that MAME is very easy to setup the problem with it is often finding the roms and the correct sets.

Its easy if you've a full MAME set , if you dont having people download odd rom files and parent roms plus other bits can be a faff (although this tends to be more for the larger / newer games)
