Dunno. I do know that this psu wouldnt and couldnt fit anywhere else.

Some weird stuffs happening here man. I swapped out the graphics cards last night, all went well.

I went to bed, tried to fire up south park on my media center in my trusty old machine and the hard drive made a clack, looks like Im about to lose 440gb of data, everything basically.

And then this morning the graphics cooler came, and it doesnt fit as its for the wrong model (well, its supposed to fit mine but doesnt, by a mile).

Bah.

Still, I didnt back the data up and tbh I dont care anymore. Im tired of worrying over it. Fuck it it can all rot and Ill start again.

My photos are safe, so thats good. just films, artwork stuff like that.

Whatever, I'll do what I want.

That one's pretty sweet. Shite graphics obviously but that's fixable for 55 quid. Rest is nice though, and it's listed as having no scratches.

Plus, it's black. I know most people prefer the black ones (ooer..)

The X2 is. The phenom I have to say has been fucking marvellous.

The only problem with the Phenom for me has been overclocking. I havent, basically. but thats only cos the board I have with it didnt cost 300 quid and thus cant seperate the buses.

Im selling my phenom rig, so if you dont want all the shine and polish and something more down to earth you wont get cheaper.

With the 9800 GT in here I spat Grid @ 53fps. Thats an awful lot. The 8600GTS isnt shabby either, so itd still make a pretty capable gaming rig.

I quite liked that film. I though it was a bit dull, but from the point Brad Pitt showed up it got properly good. The ending was brilliant: "Fucked if I know what it was we did, though" :D

"The rating the CPU's are given here represents their peak performance and not necessarily there real world performance with any specific software application. This is especially true in the case of CPU's with multiple cores or benchmarks of systems with multiple physical CPU's. While PerformanceTest was designed to make use of all cores/CPU's at once, many real world applications are not designed with this in mind, especially older applications. Unlike single core/CPU systems these systems will only show their full potential in high-performance situations such as Web-serving or when heavily multitasking, the average user might not see nearly as much improvement from them."

Yeah it's 'marrylind' as they call it. It doesnt cover the fans those sections have holes cut out and it does really help tbh.

Lace. I got your pm mate but youve disabled them.

Yes, grab it whilst you can. As Nemmie and I discussed today there's no knowing how long they'll last mate. Mine has (in testing) been fine, but I'm waiting to get my video card sorted out first. I removed the stock HSF on it and went to fit the triple fan one, but it didnt fit. So, I didnt want to put it back on as its a bugger to fit and I cleaned all the thermal paste off. Im also waiting for my ram I ordered (extra 2gb OCZ) as mine only came with 1gb.

The phone support I had was awesome. I think the lady is foreign but shes awesome, very helpful and meticulous about answering any questions you may have. I sent her a thankyou email today and also told her how two of my friends have now bought machines on my recc, she replied thanking me, which was nice..

I haven't really thrashed it yet, but I did get it stable overclocked to 2.8ghz (stock is 2.2). Mine is specced lower but it doesnt have a single mark, nemmies is listed as lightly scratched but his spec is alot higher (but Im a tart, total tart).

I can solidly reccomend them, simply as they come with a 3 page A4 info pack from the company detailing the 7 day money back guarantee.

Anyone with 90+% feedback on over 6000 sales must be doing something right I guess :)

OK. In 2006 I got a Celeron D @ 2.4ghz. It was a cut down Pentium D.

On a clean xp install it took me about 2 and a half hours to rip and burn a dvd using dvd shrink. A good two hours of that was the ripping (forgetting the 30 mins it took my pioneer a04 to burn it).

I then, in Nov 07 bought a Core 2 Duo 1.8ghz allendale. It could rip an entire dvd with the same ammount of ram in about 35 mins.

Photoshop was the biggy though. To open a 600mb bmp on the celeron, that was clocked faster than the c2d it took about 10 mins. with the C2d it was awesome.

Infact, I looked @ a bench guide on Tomshardware comparing my 1.8ghz C2d to numerous other cpus. It even beat a 3.4ghz P4 Cedar Mill.

So yes, there is a huge difference unless like I said you only use your pc for wanking to porn, reading emails and posting on beex LOL.

Anything like gaming, video encoding and so on youll seriously notice the difference.

Attn : Nemmie and anyone else who has got one of these units or ordered one.

I had a second look in my rig and couldn't see any leds, so I figured I didnt have the FX lighting afterall (bah).

However, after looking it up today I discovered that I do. In the pic is the main pc controller board that basically all of the leds and usbs etc connect through. I found an article through google and it says that if you have the lighting you will have the following.

The small SODIMM type controller card (see pic) and a white panel of leds in the front of the case.

Heres a pic of the controller board, Ill get one of the leds a bit later :)

EDITAGE - Also check this out. Very very clever :)

Bank transfer. First time I have used that feature and it will be the last. Not sure why they harass you to add your bank details when a debit card is a lot faster.

I expect it is something to with Paypal's profit margins though. I also now understand why I have lots of super fast payer comments on my feedback that always puzzled me.

Lace. To soothe your nervous disposition I will later take some photos of the very good warranty. Sure, it's only 7 days, but for any tech head that's more than enough. Once a PC works good it'll continue to do so. Sure, you might lose the odd hard drive, but non OC'd it should last for years, especially with the very high standard of build and part quality.

Whorage time, and a few more reasons to buy one.

First up, yes, I'm now positive I do have AlienFX. After some research I looked for this -

the controller board

Image

Follow the wires from the right side. They should meet in 3 connectors, labelled LED 7 8 and 9.
They then meet in the front, here.

The actual lights. Yes, they look fuck all like lights. Very clever.

Image

So today my extra ram I ordered and the Arctic GPU setup arrived. Which I fitted at once.
So, the inside is almost done now. Just need a Fox extractor fan for the PCI and my RDS type unit by silverstone. I also need to order two oak end tables to stand it on.

Inside is almost there.

Image

These are just because I am a whore, and to calm Lacesensor's nerves.

Image

This pic shows how the lighting works. The heads are mounted on 6mm perspex so the light glows around the head. Very clever

Image

O.K. Other cool things. The DVD I thought was the respawn image actually isn't. It's a Alienware enhanced full Vista install DVD which I am installing as we speak.
I decided not to use Black because of something Nemmie told me yesterday, plus, what's the point in running an illegal O.S when you have a genuine one?
The Vista license is inside the front door..

Computer has been running for over an hour now with no issues on installing Vista, which, arguably tests all the hardware as it probes it during install.

Post subject:  Re: O.M.G

O.K. some may find this interesting.

I found out the reason these machines were probably refurb, or, never sold. Windows Vista. This was all done during the test/burn in stage...

When the machine arrived I overclocked it immediately to 3.2ghz from the stock 2.2. It went well.

However, after installing a couple of software updates and installing my wireless NIC IE kept locking up and becoming un-responsive. I tried again, but even the downloads were freezing. I figured it was the OC so I wound it down first to 2.8ghz, then 2.6ghz and finally went back to stock. The problem, however, persisted.

I installed XP Utimate (black) from scratch and it was fine. However this time SP1 was slipstreamed and all my hardware was detected. Today, however, I figured "why not install the Alienware Vista and have a legal version of windows for the first time in a while?" - mistake.

As soon as I reinstalled Vista home premium and installed the drivers for the motherboard Vista became unstable AGAIN. After fighting with it fruitlessly for about five hours I pulled the plug and installed XPMCE2005. I'm glad I did.

It runs like a rocket, boots in mere seconds. Tomorrow once I have a image of it as it sits now (completely set up) I am going to again revert back to at least the 2.8ghz overclock. The whole point in buying an Alienware is to get the most out of the delicious hardware inside.

Nemmie. If you want a copy of this slipstreamed MCE I have pm me and I'll send one over.
