That would be rubbish. I hate non-endings. The series should end with Widmore and Sun's companies arming themselves with nukes and bringing the world to brink of annihilation, until the losties decide to move the island directly into the middle of LA, killing millions but reminding the world that they should work together against aliens.

Or something.

:D

Wouldn't it be really weird if a film comes out in the next month or two with a remarkably similar ending? You could sue for plagarism!

They ambush the US army expedition and steal their clothes and equipment. That's why Goodwin has a US army knife in S1.

You're right, I tend to get S1 and early S2 mixed up because I watched them all in succession on DVD. But you get the point -

that's how Goodwin came to have the knife. Nice little loose-end which I didn't expect to see tied up.

Goodwin was one of my favourite characters, he was one cool cat. Shame the only time we've really seen him post mortem was in the Worst Episode Ever (The Other Woman.)

Since I've never watched Lost on Tv, I don't know the episode names (they are all LOST.S05E04.XVid.AC3.avi to me). But anything that focuses on Sun usually bores me to tears. I like the "OOOOOOH, so that's how that fit's with that!" moments.

I thought the original Sun/Jin love-story episode a few seasons back was really good, one of Lost's few stabs at romance which didn't end in bathos. Ji Yeon (the ep last year in which Sun has a flashforward and Jin a flashback, which appear to interlock until the final reveal) was quite touching too.

Future speculation, potentially mildly spoilery if true:

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
I just saw this picture over on another forum:

Image

It's taken from season 2, just before Anna-Lucia shot Shannon. It was never confirmed or denied whether that was Terry O'Quinn we can see lurking but I believe it was stated in an interview at the time that whatever (or whoever) it was, it was deliberate and not a production error of some kind.

Wow, this thread kind of exploded. I have only just caught up after some sort of clumsiness time-related trickery led to me downloading episode 1 again. :(

ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Well, the image above is definitely there. The episode in question is Abandoned (or S02E06 ;) ) at about 39.50. Just after Shannon goes running after Walt in the jungle, Sayid chases after her, slips in the mud, and as he picks himself back up, you can see someone in the background.

So, who wants to watch Claire giving birth to see if Sawyer is in the background? :p

Edit -

This Place Is Death is a bit of a mehh episode. Everything of significance in it could be compressed into five minutes. If your time is precious you should content yourself with an online recap. Some nice flashback/forward/whatever stuff in it, though.

I liked this weeks one, lockes little back story.

But Im unsure whether ben or richard are the "evil" ones, im thinking ben as he gased the others, shot locke, etc...
but then there's the argument he did it for the "good of the island" or something.

I don't know why Ben spent ages trying to save L("You are important." "The Islands needs you" etc) and then just changed his mind and killed him. I guess that means it's bullshit that the island needs Locke (or did Ben know that Locke would be born again anyway - I guess like Jack's Dad did?)

He didn't care that Whidmore wanted John alive, he flipped when he found about John going to Hawking, so there's maybe something personal going on there.
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Daniel Faraday's mother is Eloise Hawking - presumably pseudonyms, but why physicists? They can't just be expecting the viewer to write that off as coincidence, given the physicsical bent running through the whole thing.
I'm really enjoying this season, I don't know if it's because I know it's finishing next season, or they're starting to build towards that quickly, or both, but it's getting really interesting, not just with the loose ends starting to tie off, but ends that we didn't even know were loose at all being pointed out.

Well practically everyone on the island is named after a philosopher, maybe there are 2 sides to this physics v philosophy?

I think they showed 'There's something about Mary'

I assumed it was a mid-season(ish) break.

Epguides says it's a one-off. A few times Lost has done this to air a single episode from earlier in the show as a reminder of something important. I wonder what US TV showed last night.

I wonder if there are any clues peppered back through the last few series that Ben remembers Jack, Sawyer, Kate etc, but especially Sayeed. His near psychic abilities could be down to meeting these people as a child.

What's the odds it's Jack who saves his life (again)?

I was a bit disappointed compared to some of the previous finales.
Not enough "Holy Shit" moments, and they seemed to be introducing a lot of elements in the finale, rather than in the previous couple of episodes which is how they seemed to do it before.
Still only 8 or 9 months before the next series. :'(

About the show itself... I'm glad it all seems to be coming together. Introducing

Jacob's Enemy
seems like the final piece of the puzzle.

I admit to being utterly surprised by the contents of the box and then cursing myself for not seeing it coming.

I thought the box might have Jacobs body in it, but Locke's was good. In fact, it was ace because I have absolutely loathed John locke since he got back to the island. He's always been way too smug, and I've mentioned on other forums that he's been a complete twat this season... now we know why.

Overall view of the season is mostly 'meh'.

It amuses me that the initial posts in this thread refer to the two very different Dharma groups... even though they're the same group at the same time. LOLZORS!

So... what next? Jacob's enemy (aka Esau aka The Smoke Monster) has killed Jacob... but will it be undone because they exploded the bomb? Or is that just the Incident that was 'supposed' to happen, and that's that?

Well, as much as I'd love that, I don't think they'll 'kill off' half of the cast just like that. To be honest, the Ben/Richard/Jacob/Esau story is way more fun than Matthew Fox prancing around and Juliet being a horrible, annoying, stupid cow.

Notice how Dr. Chang lost (or at the very least severely injured) his arm in the finale. This suggests that he was always present at the Incident, which he wouldn't have been if the Losties hadn't intervened. Therefore Juliet always detonated the bomb, therefore it changed nothing. Probably.
