I suspect there might possibly be more to this story than a simple rule of "no fat bastards"?
Y'know. Although not to disrespect the BBC website at all as it's clearly the bastion of news excellence at all times.

Yeah you could be right. They could have been turned down for other reasons and are playing the fat card.

Are single people allowed to adopt? There's no hidden agenda in me asking that, I genuinely have no fucking clue.

I've been watching that show that the hamster does the narration for.. Englands fattest man? Dunno.

Have to say it's incredibly interesting. This dude basically has a mutated super liver that can take like 20 odd pints and still work.

No such thing, it is simply scale - he'll fry it eventually, same as they all do.

Perhaps they're afraid of the child being sucked into his rolls of flab/tormented with "I heard your dad went into a restaurant and ate everything in the restaurant and they had to close the restaurant" comments/sat on/the father suddenly dying of fatness and tipping over in slow motion (complete with 'falling tree' sound effects), crushing them/growing up with the unhealthy idea of accepting people for what they are and do as opposed to arbitrary standards set by idiots who likely have even worse issues.

The man is a couple of stone heavier than me, and a couple of inches shorter than me (fnar fnar) which makes me merely "obese" and him "morbidly obese" (although he does look much fatter than I do).

BMI is such a shit measurement of anything tho, it really should be outlawed for anything worthwhile. According to his BMI Stephen Redgrave was "obese" when he won all 5 his gold medals FFS.

So what did social services and the police say when you told them?

She has an ongoing case with them at the moment I believe. The grandparents took the kids and cared for them when she went into hospital, their dad is really really nice bu he is on drugs and can't cope with the kids and go to help classes, or something like that-I only hear all this second-hand. The grandparents kept the kids and refused to give them over, until she managed to get 3 of them back by god knows what method-then she got pregnant again and it's all gone tits up :s

I'm not sure whats happening now

Yup. Hence the few 'if you're muscular' BMI charts I've seen.

And the "I'm not fat, I'm big boned" BMI charts.

Remember kids - arguing about the accuracy of the BMI doesn't make you thin.

Couldn't he adopt a fat kid? Perhaps with a higher BMI then it would all balance out.

Yep, BMI is a handy device for 'average' people (ie not athletes or other muscly sporty types). It currently says I'm overweight until I get down to 11st 11lbs, and you know what? It's probably right, judging by my (admittedly shrinking) beer belly.

My Doctor even said that the BMI counter thing wasn't a good representation because the scale *no pun intended* is just ridiculous.

Remember back in the day, long before any of us were alive and long before fruit, when being of a portly frame was an indication of health, wealth and male prowess? How much more of a nobler age that was.

It's a little known fact that the Pope excommunicated King Henry VIII as he was too wide to enter the pearly gates.

Tudor times would have rocked if you were in the richest 1% of society. For everyone else it would have been endless drudging toil, mud, smallpox, being killed by Spaniards and the bloody flux.

I'm not sure I would laugh at this chap. Or, indeed, address him as anything other than "sir".

If you look like that, you've got no business in the front row. You should be playing as a flanker, where good-looking mesomorph fucks are tolerated.

Again - you can tell him that. I'll be hiding.
