Not sure, as I haven't checked in a while, but I don't recall it having my favourite album of last decade either (Lift To Experience's The Texas-Jerusalem Crossroads).

It's got Supporting Caste, which that song is on.

Known, but the album (which doesn't have 'Potemkin City Limits', the song, on it) is a different thing.

I have a seven day free trial of Spotify Premium.

First impressions:

On computer - awesome, though obviously would prefer it to be more comprehensive.

On mobile phone - intermittently awesome. Shit on trains, and oddly also whilst walking across London Bridge.

In summary - at the moment veering towards "No, I won't pay for this".

Storing your playlists locally solves this.
Oddly though, I've never know it not work while I've had reception. I can plug it into the car and drive from London to Bedford without it getting upset.

How do I go about doing this?

The storing of playlists, not driving to Bedford... you know SOMEONE was going to say it!

Look at your playlists and hit the big button on the top left marked "Offline playlists", then choose the ones you want to store locally. You need a Wifi connection (unless you change your settings).

Spotify goes all social networky and full blown media playery. Updates rolling out over the next few days. Could be interesting? May I suggest folk adding their username to this thread so we can all do the spotify bezzie thang?

My spotify username is, unsurprisingly, 'pupil'.

That's quite a blast of features, there, especially the bit about turning your Spotify client into a proper media player by importing your locally stored songs.

I'm MalabarFront not signing up to Facebook.

Still nothing here. Also, hoorah for adverts that have absolutely no consideration for the usability of the content, actively going against it:

Just installed Spotify on my netbook and it has all the social stuff in it. Unfortunately I can't add anybody until they've enabled their social features.

Also, this might be useful -

Quote:
You can add Spotify users without Facebook by typing spotify:user:username in the searchbox.

as there's no option in the people list just to tap a name in.

Wait - what? It's not intergrating with my Facebook, no fucking way. I want less things doing that, not more.

I got bored of waiting, so reinstalled it via here:

http://www.spotify.com/uk/download/windows/

Will play now, see what the new features are like. I have no problem with the facebook integration, I think integrating social networking services together is a good thing. You can always not give it your facebook login details if you don't like that idea.

I have added Nihihihihireje and Devilman. I can't add you, pupil.

I looked at the FB integration, and it wants to post to my wall. It can fuck off.

The cog icon in spotify on the top right of your list of "friends", once you've allowed it to connect with facebook you can click this cog and "Disable Posting to Facebook".

Well, the new features are nice, it'll be cool to easily suggest tracks to friends and stuff, that's really useful. Local files/Gracenote integration is a good idea but they need to improve how local files are played through spotify as, atm, you can't play your locally stored albums in their correct track order, it just plays their tracks alphabetically, which is useless. Hopefully they'll add his soon.

You can, but only straight after you import them (ie, when they're in the "this is what you've imported" list) :S

Wow, it's like Guitar Hero.

I'm assuming I can't take advantage of any of these social features without a Facebook account?

No, that just links spotify to your facebook and auto-imports your friends who have also done the same, nothing more really. It's just a quicker way of adding mates. You can do all of the social stuff without facebook, no probs.

A sort of vague "click on the 'you might like this' link" session has inadvertently lead me into some horrific never-ending loop of "Kidz Sing the Hits!" albums. I never realised they made so many. No matter what your favourite song is, some one has taken a bunch of eleven year olds and stripped it of any passion and emotion.
