Wacky Eurogamer wrote:

SEGA has confirmed to Eurogamer that its Birmingham-based Racing Studio is closing down as part of plans to restructure development operations in the West.

In a statement the publisher said, "Regrettably SEGA today announced that it is to commence consultation with a view to the unfortunate closure of the SEGA Racing Studio in Birmingham, UK.

"The decision is part of a review of SEGA’s Western Development Studios to ensure that each studio is a profitable entity in its own right, and unfortunately the SEGA Racing Studio’s five year plan would not result in a successful return for the SEGA business moving forward."

The statement concluded, "SEGA would like to stress that there will be no changes within their other internal development studios."

SEGA Racing Studio was responsible for last year's SEGA Rally, which met with critical acclaim - not least from Kristan. It was the only game the studio finished during the three years it was operational.

Aaah crap. So any kind of racing game I like is dying.

They didn't make outrun 2 though right? We might still get an Outrun 3 yeah?
*Hopes*

There's always the possibility that the Sega Rally franchise will move to an eastern development arm, of course.

Still though, a really good rally game did badly enough for them to not be cost effective to keep. That isn't good.

Explains why there was a billion copies of Sega Rally going for a pittance the last few weeks, they must have cleared their stock.

OutRun 2 was Sumo Digital. From UK Resistance's recent interview with them:

Quote:
UKR: The OutRun games are now working on Xbox 360 with backwards compatibility. But not very well.

STEVE: No they're not, are they? It would be great if somebody asked us to do an Xbox Live Arcade version. Wouldn't that be great? If only someone would ask us...

If you squint a bit then he could almost be hinting about something that an NDA is stopping him from talking about...

In all honesty, from what I saw of the demo it wasn't worth a full price release. £20, perhaps.

The demo was shit. The full game is definitely worth a full-price release.

We should have a Sega Rally night sometime. Myself and Dimmers had good fun when we did it last time.

I'd be up for a bit of rallying. It's in my pile of games that I really should play more of.

You don't need to unlock anything to have a good time. The cars you start with are good enough.

I'd be more than happy to bring the same degree of skill and co-ordination I displayed in CoD4 to the rallying arena.

They do rally in arenas, don't they?

Never tried this online, but I have got a few cars unlocked. How many players does it support at once?

Only six, unfortunately. It's the same as the one-player mode.
